When Kirstin sings First Time In Forever she literally sounds like an actual Disney princess like she could be in a Disney movie. Her voice is so pure and clear and pretty. Somebody make that woman a princess
@@corvus1374 I know. She played Lauren in Kinky Boots last year and I found an audio clip of her singing online and she sounded amazing. Further confirmation that she needs to be a Disney Princess
Mitch hits that note a lot and if you saw their Defying Gravity video that is the wig that Scott wore. Please react to Pentatonix Ride. Mitch's high notes are just off the charts and then Kirstin and Scott blow me away when they hit it too.
Tara, it’s nice to see you laugh and enjoy this theatrical performance. It’s equally enjoyable to see professional artists have fun with their craft after investing so many years of hard work. You always review with a well-balanced perspective.
Since you enjoyed this SUPERFRUIT cover, I would LOVE if you reacted to them doing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked! It's a parody as well but their vocals are actually AMAZING in it!
I truly believe it’s videos like this that make their fans feel like they can connect with them. Pentatonix is always on point but this reminds us that they’re down to earth and kind of silly like us. It’s how Pentaholics get hooked. 🤣
I love them so much. It is rare (actually I can’t remember any other artist) that a professional performer will bring you back to the simple joy of playing or play acting as most of us did as kids with recycled Halloween costumes and improvised props. Joy of singing 101.
When Superfruit released this video, it was at a time when Kirstin wasn't really doing much lead as part of Pentatonix; she was just supporting Mitch & Scott as leads. One of the delights of this was getting to hear her actually sing on her own, and hearing that she was amazing. It was after this that she began getting more lead vocals, and being invited to sing with Voctave and others.
I loved Scott's strained C#5 at the end! It might be strained and it might sound really heady but there's some chest voice in that - it's technically a mix, super-thinned-out chest voice. Who said baritones can't sing in the fifth octave lol. Thanks for reacting to the video! 👍
@Lordu, Oh, cool, I've previously wondered if Scott were actually a baritenor… I've seen you in various comment sections and I've noticed you really know your stuff so let me ask you: what is the primary reason he's a baritenor and not a baritone? I mean, you mention his tone, but I imagine that's one of the less important things, right? Does him being a baritenor and not a baritone more have to do with, like, his passaggios being a little bit higher and just, you know, his general ease singing high? Huh, I'm interested in learning why!
🎵🎼🎵They have so much fun together! Scott and Mitch have known each other since they were 10 yrs old Kirstie and Mitch since they were 8. And Scott and Kirstie since they were 14. Plus Mitch is a HUGE fan of Frozen!!🎵🎵
Please please please react to ptx cover of Gold! Mitchs control of his voice is stunning! Btw i love your reactions to pentatonix, your tips are amazing!
Damn totally hysterical.....the whole thing........but the end......omg.....singing perfectly off pitch.....that was so great......it is so refreshing to hear/see artist have the humility and humanness to make light of themselves and the pedestal their often thrust upon......priceless......and as always great reaction/critique.....and last Thursdays Q and A was so great.....I just love watching/hearing you answer all these....like you mentioned increasingly great questions.....I just sit spellbound....so informative.....great time.
Scott and Mitch plus Kirstin make 3.....The Trio! These 3 nuts grew up best friends, choir nerds, community theatre participants, Scott and Mitch writing music and performing in talent shows and singing a lot of Gaga anyplace that would have them.. Superfruit was already formed in that friendship and the beginnings of Pentatonix was formed when you add Kirstin. Go to senior year for Scott and Kirstin and the three of them started arranging telephone by Lady Gaga and decided to perform it at their recital. It is an amazing arrangement and for three voices with no percussion or Bass it sounded fabulous! Kirstin's friend's brother filmed it on his phone and uploaded it to UA-cam without them knowing about it. So the trio had been seen by Kevin and Avi before Scott contacted both of them and asked if they like to try out with them for The Sing-Off. And now we had Pentatonix! When I watched this Frozen medley I hadn't heard much from Pentatonix after The Sing-Off because I was UA-cam illiterate. My daughter I had just started singing in the shower much to my delight! And she has a beautiful natural voice, and the song she was singing in the shower was Let It Go from Frozen . She just belted it ! So when she found this video on UA-cam she came running into my room and said Mom you've got to hear this man sing Let It Go ! So I was like okay ! And I'm looking and it's part of Pentatonix ! I was like oh my gosh I haven't seen them since The Sing-Off ! And it was all over then I was a full pentaholic cuz I immediately began UA-cam lessons from my 10 year old! LOL! Superfruit also did an episode called Defying Gravity. I bet you can guess what it's about! I would love it so much if you could react to that! I don't know what Mitch was doing different during this time frame from what he does now but it sounds different to me? Neither is worse or better it's just different sounding. Is there a difference in his technique back then from what he's doing now that you can hear? I'd love it if you watched Defying Gravity and commented on whatever it is he's doing. It's a good laugh too by the way!
This one always makes me smile, because you can totally tell these three have known each other since they were kids, and it's so nice to see them still having fun together after all these years.
Omg so excited to see you resurrecting this- Now I'm going on an old superfruit binge!!! But in truth, Kirsten has such perfect "Disney" vocals, and Mitch sounds like a stunning rendition of Idina Menzel here...
I loved your advice at the end especially! Thanks :-) I don't think you've done their "Defying Gravity" yet - if not make sure to check it out (Scott's got the wig)! For more of Superfruit being amazing while still having a sense of humor, the videos for their originals "Hurry Up" and "Sexy Ladies" and "Guy.exe" are all amazing and hilarious at the same time
Please please please react to more of Kirstin. And also the la la land melody that the three of them did😂 Great reaction and u dying bc of the 'glove' was a mood
Yeeeessss finalmente!!!😤😤😁 Also just realized why “for the first time in forever” felt a little different when Kirstin sung it. This key was a bit lower in her register than it was for the original singer’s voice.
Disney needs to recruit Kirstin and Mitch for Disney song voiceovers like ASAP! Their voices especially Kirstin is soooooooo crisp and precise💕💕💕 Mitch's voice is so pretty and delicate 💕💕💕💕💕. Never had I ever had a girl crush on voices the way I feel about Pentatonix
I love this! I would love for you to react to Pentatonix's official cover of Gold. It's a live session set up, and it really shows them off. Love your videos
I absolutely had AS MUCH FUN watching your reaction to this as I did watching their video the first time. Keep it up Tara, I love your analysis and reactions!
Their non-serious messing around is how they finally get to those amazing perfect performances. Trying stuff without getting judgy and I mean self-judgy, is a way to figure out what is possible. That's how Pentatonix comes up with their innovations. Good comments.
This video just showed me why I liked you. You show that you can enjoy their humor. Plus I love their video, it shows that they have been friends since childhood.
So glad you got to see the goofy side of the Trio - or should I say the quartet, because "'The Wig" makes an appearance in a few of their musical remakes. Mitch met Kirstie and Scott when they were each 8 or 9 years old in various local musical theater productions in Arlington, TX. In junior high and high they sang together in choirs and in high school they performed as a trio. So they have been singing, and goofing around, for many years.
I find her insight really interesting as a long-time fan of PTX, just to hear what specifically she loves so much about their voices. And yes. Mitch is an insane vocalist. The stuff he can do leaves my jaw on the floor sometimes.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! for saying what you said about being kind to performers!! no one is superhuman and every performance is different. I just discovered you tonight, but I can tell you're the real deal, Tara. thanks so much for being perhaps the only vocal coach on YT who is both 100% honest and 100% fair and kind.
Such a great example of what making music is about: having fun. It’s so nice to see you laugh out loud. Thank you for making this fun video for us to enjoy.
Kirstin,Mitch, and Scott grew up together and preformed together since they were in school.Avi and Kevin joined last minute for a show that they needed five members for. And they won which says a lot about how they blend together so well
Loved your reaction to this video 😂 AND loved your always professional commentary! Singing is all about bringing joy to your heart whether on pitch or off and I feel this video is a perfect example of that! Thank you, again, Tara for your recognition and dedication to the joy of singing 💗
I remember when this first came out and it's still so funny after all these years. It brings so many memories, so I will never start dying laughing at Mitch when he comes out that wig.
I knew you would enjoy this video and thanks for taking your time to watch it. This was like 4or 5 years ago and it does show them in the raw and live and not studio. They do La La Latch live on a FM3 video. The layering is insane.
Great reaction as always, Tara. Funny but also great music - particularly like Mitch channeling Brando doing Elsa and Kirstie’s Norma Desmond look in the outtakes. One of my very favorites.
Loved this reaction. Yes, it's refreshing to see professional singers let go and be their goofy selves but I think people also needed to see your reaction to it. People who are listening to singers also need to sit back and realise that singing isn't just about perfect pitch and perfect technique - it's about the joy of singing. Seeing a vocal coach who can hear every imperfection just enjoying it for what it was intended to be was wonderful. Out of all the Pentatonix members I find myself most drawn to Mitch. To me, Mitch is a vocal chameleon who can change his style to suit the setting/song. His overall style has changed over the years as he explored what his signature sound would be but that doesn't mean that he can't still sing other styles. I love revisiting the different Mitch eras as it reminds me just how vocally flexible he is. I would also like to see you react to Superfruit's 'Defying Gravity'' along with Pentatonix 'What is This Feeling' from the Wicked 15th anniversary special so you can see him as both Elphaba and Glinda! Other's have requested Pentatonix 'Gold' which is incredible from all members but I'd like to add 'Dancing on my Own' which is after Avi left but before Matt, with Kevin on Cello covering for the bass part - it is beautiful and very moving.
When they were kids they used to play a game where each one tried to outdo the others in bad singing! We see it in the bloopers, and it can be seen in quite a few of their behind the scenes videos as well. I think it would be so much fun just to hang out with them for a few days because it's so obvious how much fun they have together.
Since Kirstin and Mitch have known each other since they were 9 years old and met Scott at school at 14. You can bet this is something these 3 have been doing a long time. Their free time videos are hysterical. They would run through fire for each other.
I love your reaction and your comments. Your insights into the performance aspect of music has expanded my understanding of the art. I would love to see you comment on the PTX cover of GOLD. The vocal "gymnastics" in that performance are amazing and I'd love to hear your reaction.
You remind me of my music teacher. Not just because you are a vocal coach but I see some similar traits in the way you talk and express yourself and a little bit in how you look. She is a very talented teacher and also teaches theater
Thank you so much for reacting to this, it's one of my favorite videos from them! The person filming said they were a bit tipsy and did this for fun haha they're still theatre kids :)
You have to remember that these 3 were childhood friends long before they put together The Trio in high school, let alone forming Pentatonix. That's fundamental to their relationship - *first* friends, *then* colleagues.
So let's talk about the blond wig. It gets around. You have to watch them do Defying Gravity (I see it was requested in the comments below.) The wig makes an appearance in that one. And you are sooo right about their "bad" harmonizing at the end. It IS better than some people's best! Thanks for reacting to this. It was a lot of fun.
The first Harmonizing Challenge is best by Cimorelli! They are 6 sisters who have been in a band for 12 years and totally have it down! They have done three now, but I think the first is the most realistic and beautiful.

K, but can we all agree that Kirstie could actually totally be a disney princess

It's all fun and games until Mitch starts singing. And you remember his singing is no joke, lol.
So true!
Fun fact: they were drinking quite a few while recording ;)
really? I've seen it before but didn't know that haha
How is Kirstins voice still so perfect and Disney Princess standard if she had been drinking? That proves it, she is beyond human.

That doesn't surprise me.

La la land medly by Superfruit, hip hop goes Broadway 1&2 by Superfruit and Gold by PTX are all so worth the watch.
i love that you reacted to this!!!!! now you need to watch the other videos with the wig: pop goes broadway and defying gravity
You have to remember that these 3 were childhood friends long before they put together The Trio in high school, let alone forming Pentatonix. That's fundamental to their relationship - *first* friends, *then* colleagues.
You should react to some of Avi Kaplan’s solo videos, like Wonderwall or Man of Constant Sorrow. It’s just Avi and his guitar and they are amazing!
They're goofballs. Lol! Good to see them having fun and laughing together.
The fact that she's only ONLY... talking about Mitch and always laughing at whatever he does..
MAN! You must really love Mitch!
If you like that then you're gonna love Superfruit hip hop goes broadway (1 and 2) or defying gravity
