Agree on all of them except the Heart release not getting the same notes from my bottles! But understand everyone has a different palate. Can’t wait til your Bourbons of the year list! Cheers guys 🥃👋
My wife and I are fairly new to bourbon. Our current favorite is either Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Eagle Rare. What would you guys (or anyone in the comments) recommend “newer” bourbon drinkers to try?
Make sure to check out the Old Forester Whiskey Row Series if you haven’t already. Good variety of taste and proof. Beyond that we recommend looking for something outside of Kentucky. Bottled in Bond (100 proof) is a good place to start. Cheers.
You guys are paying too much for that Bulleit Barrel Strength - widely available at $50 here in Utah. I can’t speak to batch 08, but batch 07 is terrific. 6 of us blinded Rare Breed, Smoke Wagon UCUF, Belle Meade Reserve and the underdog Bulleit won unanimously.
Agreed on the Traveler. I don't mind it, but it's best as a mixer for me. I have, however, found it's a great way to introduce people to whiskey precisely because it's relatively mild, and the Stapleton tie-in makes it of interest.
We’d agree. It’s a decent intro to whiskey but still would go with BT over it. Haven’t mixed it but seems like it would be too sweet and lacking proof. Cheers.
I do not agree with you guys on the New Riff 8 years, but then again this is just "opinions" so we agree to disagree. I find the New Riff 8 a good one and one of my go-to.
I can see how the knob creek bottle can throw some off at first, but if you keep sipping and add a bit of water you can definitely get most of those flavor profiles.
Nice to see a YTer have opinions that are not total matches to what everyone else is saying. I'm amazed how often I don't agree with most YTers on their opinions and when so many say the same thing about a bottle, you have to wonder if they really have an honest opinion or are they just trying to gain viewers by agreeing with others that have a great reputation for their knowledge of whiskey. Also, its all opinion. We all have a difference in tasting. To disagree with someone else's opinion and say they are wrong is just nonsensical.
The MM 46 Cask Strength is a standard in my collection. Great bottle. I have a bottle of the Heart Release that I haven't cracked yet, I'll have to see. You're right on the money with the G2G from Heaven Hill. I was given that rye as a gift and I really enjoy it, but when the bottle is gone I won't replace it. Just a little pricy.
April release of the Heart Release is fantastic. Not sure which one you have (could be June) but April is the top five price/bottle this year. Definitely didn't get any type of sour note. I also think the Knob Creek BouRye is amazing. Again, especially at the price point.
I agree with everything except the New Riff 8 year. It's delicious and the only issue I had with it is that I wish it was cask strength. It isn't BiB, so it would have been so much better at full proof. And you guys could literally put everything from Angel's Envy on the do not buy list. It tastes like they age everything in a used plastic garbage can.
I was completely disappointed with a new riff store pick, tasted like ethanol and that is about it. Likely the single barrel was purchased without being tasted because it was a left over Barrel pick.
Yes, I visit the distillery every month because I love what those folks are trying to do. BUT, every single barrel expression is wildly different from every other. Some are home runs, and some disappoint. But all are better than the new 8 year 100 proof. And for me, it's probably the proof.
I wish you two could taste the batch of bulleit barrel strength I got a few months ago. Everyone has agreed it is an incredible bottle, drinks lower than 120 proof, and is well worth the $52 I found it for on sale. Had to have been a bad batch for you.
100% agree. Bought the KC BouRye, WC Toasted Rye & Bulleit Barrel Strength and AE Triple Oak, all very disappointing. Need to try Redwood Lost Horizon. Love Smoke Wagon & their Single Barrels are terrific. Haven't tried my MM ❤ release yet. MM 46 Cask Strength is great.
My biggest disappointment this year was Russel's Reserve 15 year. I heard all of the hype, so I sprung for a bar pour while on vacation. Unfortunately, it was like peanut brittle with waaaayyyy too many peanuts. Like almost all peanuts, massively out-of-balance. I had the Russel's Reserve 13 year a week later, and that was very enjoyable.
As soon as I saw the title of this, Traveller was what I immediately had in mind. It was a sink pour for me. I haven't cracked my Knob Creek BourRye yet, so that's disappointing. Glad you saved some me some money on a few of these. I was looking for an EC Toasted Rye, so I'll avoid. I saw Matt Porter try the NR 8 yr, and then said it was unfair to judge it while he was tasting others and would come back to it - which made me immediately think it wasn't going to be good. I can't disagree with most of these - great segment!
I love wheaters but I struggle with the Makers Mark brand in general, didn’t like the regular cask strength nor the heart release, I’ll have to try the 46 cask strength… best thing I’ve had from Makers is Prudent Pappy (2:1 CS Makers : Larceny) I’d recommend the New Riff Malted Rye but I also has a strange hit or miss experience when it came to their Single Barrel Rye, it was night and day
Thanks for watching and sharing. Typically, Maker's is pretty decent. The Heart Release is the first thing we haven't liked. Will be looking for the NR Malted Rye. Cheers.
Great video, I highly agree w/ Travellers and Makers Mark 2024 The Heart as letdowns. As far as the EC Toasted Rye, I actually liked that one. I didn't care too much for the bourbon one. 🥃
Great show! Agree with pretty much all of the ones you didn't like and most of the ones you recommend. I tend to like more of the sweet ryes, so not as big a fan of the Willett and Pikesville Ryes. Love the Wild Turkey Ryes (specifically Rare Breed Rye and Russell's SiB Rye). Cheers!
I have a New Riff Single Barrel that is down right delicious. I’m gonna have to get a bottle of the 8 year BIB and put them in a head to head. I have the April release of Makers Heart and I also really enjoy that. The others I have not had. Was planning on getting the KC but may be at the bottom of the list now. Great video!
I go to the distillery about once a month. Last month, I tried the 8 year alongside a single barrel, and it was a huge disappointment. No taste, no hug, and no finish. I'll take any of their 4 year single barrels over the 8 year 100 proof.
I swear when I was about to click this and hovered my mouse over, I saw a Frank August bottle, yet it's not in the review. Don't know where it comes from, but man do they seem to push it hard in Florida 😄 I have been given THREE bottles of it from staff/friends in the last 2 months as gifts, and ummm... not a fan at all.
Wow,you must have gotten a bad bottle cuz Heart Release is good. I completely disagree with your taste notes. The KC bou-rye i have came in a bundle deal. It grew on me but the KC bou-rye I made was better. The EC Toasted Bourbon now comes barrel proof. If you haven't tried it, I recommend you do. Cheers
Respectfully, but completely disagree with you guys about the Angels Envy triple oaked. I enjoyed it immensely, but different strokes 4 different folks.

Way more heat than I am used to as well, so maybe that masks it.. but overall I like it. I get a LOT of the chocolate on the finish and find that I taste it most if I get the whiskey under my tongue? Thanks for sharing. The Heart Release gets mixed reviews. Wondering if something changed with the batches? Go for the AETO. It wasn't for us, but that doesn't mean it won't be good for you. Cheers.
I’m not a fan of most MM but that Heart Release is delicious. Chocolate, sweat oak and baking spices. You guys barely touched your bottle. Time for a revisit. Can’t always make a final judgment call on a first crack.
We have revisited it and will do it again. Hearing mixed reviews, so it might be a bad batch? Anyway, still not worth the chance in our opinion. Glad you like it, and thanks for watching. Cheers.
What month is your Heart release? Look on the side label. Betting it's April, like mine. Friends are June and theirs are delicious. Mine (April) is not. The last get together we had some great bottles out. New Riff 8 stole the show. It was unanimous. You can't compare wheated to it as the wheated is softer. You have to appreciate it for what it is, else it can be offputting. BT dummies are the ones who fell for the non-BT Traveler. The rest of us did not. I have all 3 of the HH GTGs. I like the rye. The wheated (red label) is the best tasting of the 3. Pikesville is among my fav ryes. It's Maryland style (high corn), just like Rare Breed and RR ryes. I think WT101 is straight rye and it goes down fast.
April on the MM. For our NR replacement we just set out the wheated- either Holiday expression would replace since they're both BiB. Appreciate the feedback cheers!
Whiskey enthusiasts...are FULL OF SHIT! lol the Traveller is a great drink...sois BT...you can have both lol. Stop letting these dorks influence your tastes and whiskey collection! Jack Daniels J and B Traveller Jim Beam All good drinks.
I like that not only did you give us your opinion of why you disliked the bottle featured, but you also gave a better recommendation..
Thanks for watching- cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.
The heart release is a banger… WTF… unreal!!
Agree to disagree. cheers!
Agreed
Mixed reviews on this one. Glad you enjoy it. We are team 👎. Cheers.
@@ArtfullyBourbon #respect
There's NO WAY that Knob Creek is one of the worst of the year. The mouthfeel alone made it worth the price.
Interesting. We made a better one, but glad you like it. Cheers.
Agree on all of them except the Heart release not getting the same notes from my bottles! But understand everyone has a different palate. Can’t wait til your Bourbons of the year list! Cheers guys 🥃👋
Yeah, ours average at best but we’ll try it again. Thanks for watching. Cheers.
Agreed! Got 3 sitting on my shelf so I don’t run out for awhile.
I’m with you. The heart > 46 cask
I got the hearts release at Costco for $50 and I find it fully worth the money, I really enjoy it.
Same! I’ve been liking a lot of the private selections too. Hopefully their bottle gets better on a second go around
9:44 would rather drink the heart realease over no46 any day of the week
Enjoy. Cheers.

I like the elijah toasted rye a lot but that is why I love bourbon. Everyone has their own choices!
Totally. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.
I enjoyed both makers heart release and lost recipe. I got to try them at a bottle share first and then picked them up.
Glad you liked them. We’ll revisit. Cheers.

The Lost Monarch is a fantastic bottle for quality, flavor and price. New Sub!
Thanks for subscribing and agree. Cheers.
Agree! Grain to glass series was especially disappointing.. $40 whiskey marked up in a nice bottle
We thought it tasted decent but definitely should be priced $50 less. Cheers.
Traveller was a one and done for me. I got muted tasting and smelling notes. Nice looking bottle. 😮💨🥃
We like the bottle design too but we’ll leave it on the shelf. Cheers.
You boys need to try the New Riff malted rye and the malted rye finished in Sherry… both excellent!
Nice show boys
On the lookout for those. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
I can see how the knob creek bottle can throw some off at first, but if you keep sipping and add a bit of water you can definitely get most of those flavor profiles.
