Nice machine there Duncan. I've just inherited a 1956 Pfaff 30 and your right about them having the edge over the Singer. I had several Singers in my teens after getting my hands on an elderly treadle (I forget the model) when I was about 10! And yes I knew how to use it too. Not bad for a 10 year old boy!

Hi Noreen, Have looked up the PFAFF 60 more of a 50's machine. Mine I think was 1942 with its old style shape. Yours is the more modern look that we know today. I have not had a go on a 60. I bet it's nothing short of excellent. Kind regards Duncan.

Sorry for the delay. Yep the Pfaff 30 is one of a kind. I will stick my neck out and go as far to say that it is possibly the best machine of this type ever. The Rolls Royce of the sewing machines. Very very hard to beat. My only complaint is the table, moves to much, stick it in a rock solid Singer treadle table and you have total perfection. Oh yes. Do not sell it as you will retreat it. Cheers Duncan.

2 pounds? What a steal. I just bought a 1954 Pfaff 30 from the original owner. All the attachments and the even the original manual. I thought I got a good deal for $50

I was just given a Pfaff 30 sewing machine, from an older Gentleman that Loves to troll trash. I first thought Albert brought me another machine that I guess I could part out?..... I Had no Idea until this morning what was in the case. This works!!!! and Is in Beautiful Condition. Is there a Manual somewhere, I can down load?

Hi. I have a beautiful vintage Pfaff 30 in almost perfect condition. However, nothing happens when i turn the hand crank. The needle doesn,t go up or down. Is there something simple that i need to do?

Hi Jazz, there are 2 versions of this model I have an early one but you will see the later ones on UA-cam. The dog control mechanism on mine is a large lever (just above the 30) This allows the dogs to move forward or back. Also regulates the length of stitch. You can set to zero so the dogs just go up or down. On younger versions the lever is on the body and I think it will just do the same. Just move from zero setting and see what happens. First theory. Second. There is a knob that when twisted drops the dogs, it may be the rod is not alined correctly so they might not be going up or down. Also the "foot" screw at the top of the machine. Screw down and see what happens. If non of what I have suggested works let me know and I will have a closer look underneath that may be giving you problems. With the machine do not sell or lend out. They are superb.
