Sad to report this siren, as well as the rest of San Angelo's, have been retired. Walked up to this one yesterday and saw it was disconnected. To make things worse, bees have found home inside the rotator.
I'd say about 100 feet. It's probably just the speaker distortion from us being so close. We were in an ideal position to get the most powerful sound from this siren.
@turfshredder there's a second transformer..theyre surprisingly small and im not just comparing them to the siren, but to other transformers...im assuming those are just there to run the siren because they dont branch off to a house or anything
One is in Allen, TX close to our other house. That one is operational. The 3rd is in Valera, TX. That one is sitting on the ground in a Army surplus yard just east of town. Those two and this one are the only ones I have seen in the state of Texas. There's definitely more though. Probably Amarillo.
Great video. I really like the ending on this one, when you go up to it. I also like at the end when you say: UA-cam, here we come. I also said that in many of my videos.
This is one of two operational P-50's I've seen in the whole state. Although I haven't really been looking for them. There's 3 that I know of in the state.
COOL MAN! I'm in Milwawukee, WI. I don't think they test ours in Winter. You sure are lucky! Great video and audio quility! KUDOS for your first amatuer vid. Record some more siren tests! This one was GREAT CHEERS! Scott
mantradirect if you live near San Angelo, TX than you you don't have to worry about being only 3 miles away from a nuclear plant. Our monthly tornado "test" are done just for that purpose. T E S T I N G!!!!! I'm sorry some of you can get that. Geeez!
@acedrummer2590 i think theyre going to take it down pretty soon because although its in good shape, the weather here is gonna beat it up...they might mount a 2001 or a whelen something
well when i get the chance i might go to our one and only thunderbolt on top of city hall and record it but with school in the way, looks like my next siren vid will be during the summer
It's not exactly in the middle of nowhere. This is the tallest hill around Lake Nasworthy, which has a lot of recreational use. The road around it has residential homes and a lot of joggers. There is a lot more civilization in person than what maps and videos have indicated. I was surprised.
They test ours the first of every month, I live near Bowie elementary school in San Angelo, and theres one at the old Travis ES but it still goes... btw I would laugh if it randomly came on while yall were up close to it...
Go to Valera, Texas. Middle of nowhere, but as my annotation says, it might be for sale!! It's yellow and its in great shape. I would buy it if I had the money and material available to operate it.
31 23'16.27"N, 100 29'46.75"W here ya go. Yes its off the dirt trail where it splits, its not on the main road where the camp ground is. Its a pretty strategic location considering that how loud the siren is, and its on a hill so it overlooks the entire community below.
@meerkat006 I honestly don't know how you could do that. I of course could be wrong but I think they're permanently at one volume. It's good that they're loud though as this sound can save your life. I wish our community had these. Send a few our way.
Are these sirens just 230V single phase? If they are then I cant believe that lone transformer on the pole can support a 50 hp motor. Those draw like 250 amps on startup! Looking harder, I think I see a second transformer, but I'm still unsure. Were you paying attention by any chance? Thanks for posting
(oh boy here comes the rant... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED) Maintenance galore. Its the equivalent of putting a brand new car up on a hill in the forest and then forgetting about it. what eventually happens to it? they rust out, eventually stop running. Same exact thing happens to the chrysler sirens, not to mention the other 50 billion models of sirens. The chrysler sirens were placed in locations so remote (look at LAs system for example) that they were forgotten about, and eventually abandoned. Second, they cost A SHIT TON, about as much as a full size truck back in the 50s. Lastly, the 25 mile range is moot.... if they were lucky, on the downward wail, on the highest hilltop in the area and on a clear day, MAYBE... JUST MAYBE the chrysler sirens were able to be heard for 25 miles MAX, average realistic range, accounting for obstructions like hills, wind to dissipate sound waves, foliage from trees, ambient sounds and buildings, the sirens had a range of 15 miles if that. Also forgot to mention that you had to man the damned things with at least 3 to 4 CD volunteers, so not only did you have to buy and install the siren, every time you wanted to test, run, or maintain the damned thing, you had to pay the poor bastards to hike all the way up to where it was, possibly climb a ladder to the top of a rickety platform, oil it, make sure it didnt run out of gas (which required men to relay gas cans to the siren during operation) and the man to actually operate the clutch engaging the chopper axle. The actual demise of the chrysler sirens was that they went to phone line activated systems, which meant you no longer needed men to actually run the sirens, which then caused them to start rusting, forgetting about oil changes, and general preventative maintenance like making sure the horn screens were not destroyed, or removed allowing birds and other shit into the horn(s) and chopper, make sure protective engine panels, vent covers and wiring trunks were not damaged or stolen, which prevented ingress of water, and making sure the damned things didnt rust by painting them every so often. People just forgot that they required the same maintenance as a car, which obviously i cant stress enough having already mentioned 2 or 3 times before. They need oil changes, fuel, radiator fluid, clutch fluid, rotator reduction gear and transmission fluid, grease on the drive axle, make sure the timing belt was not fraying, cracking, or snapped, make sure the spark plugs were still firing all 8 cylinders, etc.
Yeah most people are like "OMG it sounds just like a P-50!! It must be magic!!" haha nah. If you look at the P-50, the cone shape on the back, that part is the very top of a Cyclone. So yeah idk why they made one or the other because it's the same damn siren haha. Maybe to save money by not adding a fiberglass projector. Idk it's wierd. Love the sound on both anyways.
My body gets chills when I listen to these.
These old t135’s (known as P50 previously) are incredible! So much better than what aca has as the new t135 with the flower horn design.
Sad to report this siren, as well as the rest of San Angelo's, have been retired. Walked up to this one yesterday and saw it was disconnected. To make things worse, bees have found home inside the rotator.
MarcBookPro NOOOOO
So sad!!! :(
I hope they reactivate their sirens. Plus if they do, the bees will probably get cut to shreds......which I don't think is very good for the siren.
To make it worst, the siren fell down and the city hasn't done anything about it, they just left it like that
And it is on the ground.
Awesome video of that P-50. These sirens are so powerful.
Awesome video! Sucks that they decommissioned their system in 2017 and now this thing is gone. BUT DAMN THAT THING IS LOW TO THE GROUND!
It is. It's up on a good-sized hill in the middle of a populated area. So pole height doesn't really matter. And I'll check out your vid.
This siren now is laying on the ground right where it once stood. Guess they realized it was too heavy to haul away
I'd say about 100 feet. It's probably just the speaker distortion from us being so close. We were in an ideal position to get the most powerful sound from this siren.
I like the ground shot you chose with the siren in the background. interesting.
Any specific reason why they mounted a 135dB at 100' siren that low? Other then that, nice recording.
that things mounted really low for a t135....makes it more dangerous for your hearing
@turfshredder there's a second transformer..theyre surprisingly small and im not just comparing them to the siren, but to other transformers...im assuming those are just there to run the siren because they dont branch off to a house or anything
the damn thing is *literally* in the middle of nowhere in some woods and brush LMAO
Clorox Bleach I’ve actually seen it in person, it’s on a hill overlooking the community
One is in Allen, TX close to our other house. That one is operational. The 3rd is in Valera, TX. That one is sitting on the ground in a Army surplus yard just east of town. Those two and this one are the only ones I have seen in the state of Texas. There's definitely more though. Probably Amarillo.
I realize your comment was from five years ago, but do you have anymore details on the Valera P-50? Do we think it's still there?
@hawkplaya94, you should try taping the allertors.
Do you guys know about the low-mounted Thunderbolt behind Fire Station 5 on the corner of Freeland and Garfield?
@hawkplaya94 I'm pretty sure the one on city hall is, and i think the one at the fire station is, but I don't know for sure.
A cyclone is just a P-50 minus the projector and tilted on it's side..With the P-50 the sound is more concentrated. Therefore a P-50 is MUCH louder..
Great video. I really like the ending on this one, when you go up to it. I also like at the end when you say: UA-cam, here we come. I also said that in many of my videos.
i wonder why it looks to be mounted so low.
This is one of two operational P-50's I've seen in the whole state. Although I haven't really been looking for them. There's 3 that I know of in the state.
hawkplaya94: what time
Have any of you guys ever seen one of these on the ground? THEY ARE HUGE!
Good video and sound quality considering this is your first video. Nice!
COOL MAN! I'm in Milwawukee, WI. I don't think they test ours in Winter. You sure are lucky! Great video and audio quility! KUDOS for your first amatuer vid. Record some more siren tests! This one was GREAT CHEERS! Scott

@hawkplaya94 where is the other Thunderbolt, I know where one is (on top of City Hall) but where is the other?
@turfshredder a P-50 runs on 480 volts at 92-120amps
@hawkplaya94 I guess you are right about that. Found P-15's/RM-127s, SD-10s, T-128s, Tbolts and Allertors...but no other P-50.
@hawkplaya94 is it like behind a house or is that an other allertor?
@acedrummer2590 i think theyre going to take it down pretty soon because although its in good shape, the weather here is gonna beat it up...they might mount a 2001 or a whelen something
@BigMattFromTexas did you have Ear Protection During this Test?
Did you feel the ground vibrate from were you were from that loud thing haha
I bet he did
well when i get the chance i might go to our one and only thunderbolt on top of city hall and record it but with school in the way, looks like my next siren vid will be during the summer
@umbrefawx by the lake...its in the k.o.a. campground
um theres one somewhere on chadbourne. i dont remember but i was really suprised to see a second one
Why is it so low to the ground and in the middle of nowhere?
It's not exactly in the middle of nowhere. This is the tallest hill around Lake Nasworthy, which has a lot of recreational use. The road around it has residential homes and a lot of joggers. There is a lot more civilization in person than what maps and videos have indicated. I was surprised.
dude seariously where aer the LOUD ONES?
where are they besides this one
two of 'em might be on my channel
@hawkplaya94 you say this is the only P-50 you know of in your Area?....what else does San Angelo Use?
They test ours the first of every month, I live near Bowie elementary school in San Angelo, and theres one at the old Travis ES but it still goes... btw I would laugh if it randomly came on while yall were up close to it...
@form109 allertors, thunderbolts, t128s, a sd-10, a couple p15s, and this p50 and thats all i know of...im trying to find more
@PGMEagle I could feel that earlier this month when I recorded a T-bolt.
Go to Valera, Texas. Middle of nowhere, but as my annotation says, it might be for sale!! It's yellow and its in great shape. I would buy it if I had the money and material available to operate it.
@hawkplaya94 Yea thats what I thought. These things would need a two phase power feed at least. Thanks for responding
man that Siren is massive!....and Powerful sounding!
Are allertors about the same size of p-50's or are they smaller
HOLY CRAP, THAT THING IS HUGE.
Have you found any other P-50/T-135's in San Angelo?
I Think That's There Olny one But Its Inactive
where in san angelo is this siren? I didn't know they had a P-50
I live in bronte TX and I mainly only see Alerters or T-bolts
Uploaded on my birthday :D
(Although this vid is like 8 years
Old.
I can’t believe they just cut it down with a saw, damaging it when it hit the ground…..
it sounds like it has a brake to slow the chopper down when it winds down at 3:12
yep that allertor over by travis ive seen that when i go to the orthodontist and im hopin to get a vid of one of our two thunderbolts
is that on a low pole?.
@meerkat006 what "city" would you be talking about?
i dont remember a thing i think it was behind a personally owned store
@ricofojas2011 yeah its up on a hill, it doesnt need a tall one
+WhammyP-50 where's the link to the siren for Google Maps?
31 23'16.27"N, 100 29'46.75"W here ya go. Yes its off the dirt trail where it splits, its not on the main road where the camp ground is. Its a pretty strategic location considering that how loud the siren is, and its on a hill so it overlooks the entire community below.
Cool, thanks ;)

turfshredder I know I'm 7 years late, but 480 3 phase
That's because it is a cyclone but different housing.
Holy crap! I never realized how huge these things are! =-D
@boobtuber06 no its by the lake
whoa baby, that's low mounted!
no idea its been that way forever its up on a tall hill though so that might be why
@TspesVladD i did tape one on july 1st but it wont upload...
I live there in San Angelo TX and it is fun
I visit San Angelo occasionally.
this thing is literally on the middle of a field, at least a quarter mile from any sort of drivable path or road
All of San Angelo Sirens are now Inactive Because There Useing a Thing Called Code Red
ah, so we've found the mysterious West Texas P-50!
@barton1931 Milwaukee County tested twice last winter.
@meerkat006
Obviously you've never been near this place.. It's in the middle of like two or three neighborhoods.. Pretty close to civilization..
It's probably on 480. The amp draw on 480 isn't that bad.
Hands Down. The P-50 is the LARGEST siren in the world!
From size and height, yes but from weight and power, that goes to the chrysler
I think the chrysler is bigger
Yeah, the Chrysler is bigger, but only because it's powered by 180 horsepower hemi V8, can't get more American than that
@DL1011 nope this is the only one...mostly allertors around here
Damn that's mounted low, Look the grass is taller than it
Ikr
And you don't turn them down. They're that loud for a reason.
@bulldozer950 i want to but thats sorta out of my budget..
That pole looks like it is 15 feet high. Dang that is low. But yep as they say it is on a hill.
Well maybe 20-25
Yea it's on a hill
@hawkplaya94 I looked for it on google street view, and it's behind a house on Chadbourne, I guess I'll send you a link via personal message...
And yeah, I was using dreadful as a compliment :)
That's a short pole for any siren, even a T-135!
I think that's alittle low for a P-50
and its frickin huge!
that's wha- you know what, I won't say it.
Does Texas have any Asc tempest sirens at all?
+Tyler Copeland : They used to have a couple in Rowlett, Texas, where I used to live; dunno if they're still there, though.
Yep, I know some places here where people made a very poor decision with buying sirens.
Yes, we do
Yes Rowlett, Denton, Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, Flower Mound, Sachse, Richardson, and Rockwall all have their Tempests still functioning!
WhammyP-50 Have you been to Wichita Falls before? They have a Whelen system.
At 128 db at 100 feet, the ACA P-50 (aka ASC T-128) is the second loudest siren in existence.
I think you mean 135 decibels at 100 ft the t 128 is a totally different american signal siren model
T-135 😑

tornadosirenlover100 135dBs at 100 feet.
Look up ACA T-128...
@mantradirect well with everything ive seen its pushing buttons and running like hell
is that siren still operational
Quadren siren yes
update: it's no longer functional
wait, so the p50 and t135 sound the exact same, and look the exact same?
arent asc and act like rivals?
Nope same company. asc bought aca in the 90s. They used some of their designs and rebranded them.
What the hell?!? Talk about mounting it low. lol
@WhelenWS3016 WHAT? Good lord!
wait...wha?????????
Allen took down their P-50s!
if you check my channel, there's two more of 'em.
One is in Keene, the other in Grand Prarie
I passed by it today
Yeah most people are like "OMG it sounds just like a P-50!! It must be magic!!" haha nah. If you look at the P-50, the cone shape on the back, that part is the very top of a Cyclone. Damn that is LOW!
Lwal in the beginning: Guy #1: I don't think they're gonna do it. Guy #2: Why? Guy #1: Becau- Siren: RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@form109 well no but thats partly why God gave us fingers :)
WOW! now thats huge @ 5:54 !
That is low asf
They are good sirens, but way too big for me. My parents wouldn't like these. LOL. If you do plan on getting it good luck!
