    Hey Will, thanks, mate. That chat was just what I needed to hear. I haven't been able to get out enough but I know that is going to happen in a couple of weeks. so now it's time to relax, learn a little more, and then give the camera a workout. Cheers Will.

    Speaking my language! That’s why I run under the handle offaducksback on social media, a constant reminder to shoot for myself and give zero Fs to what the masses (or algorithm) have to say. Easier said then done sometimes. You only have to look at how many people put down their cameras once the algorithms changed and the world went to videos to wonder were they ever really in it for the art, or did it kill their enjoyment or no sense of validation anymore or something else…
    Looking at old memorable photos is something I do from time to time and they remind me I still have my unicorn moments to go after.

    You see! That's what I like about you Will! You are so genuine! Before I saw this video, I had gone out today to take a few shots in a rather brown, less than inspiring area, during the winter, just because I wanted to see if anything would strike my interest and to try out a new lens. In the process, I enjoyed my surroundings even though it was bland from a photographic standpoint. When you talk as you work, people enjoy it. So continue to enjoy being you. God has given you a gift.
    You did make a good point about our photos only being seen for only a few minutes. So, about two weeks ago I bought a Photo Spring Digital Photo Frame with a battery. The purpose is so I can load the photos I've taken that I like the best and have them play as a slide show from time to time. I'm now going through my archives and selecting what I like the most. Thank you for these little videos you do. Ron, Plano, TX

    I cannot believe how perfectly you hit the nail on the head with this one. I do landscape astro as my main/only hobby and I can go out usually once per month. At the same time I (by my own fault) got bombarded by astro posts from all FB and IG posts, which really didnt do any good. Sometimes I couldnt go out for a few months in a row due to terrible weather in 2023 and yet I was feeling burned out, which was so strange, like how could I be burned out if I didnt to any astro. So I took a step back from social media which really helped. And now I was watching this video and it makes so much sense. Thank you.

    Loved looking at those wonderful images while I listened to you William. That last one of the wave... how unusual, just beautiful. Going out onto the back porch with my son now; we are familiarising ourselves with our cameras since we are still not at your place of 'not thinking' about how to change settings. We need that since the moment and light don't hang about.

    This is some great chat and we should all apply it… I’m in a moment where I want to keep going out, in truth I start to get depressed after very few days if I don’t get out with the camera, but if I have a day with beautiful light or with animals or storms, could be anything, I’m absolutely buzzing … but I always seem to crash back down to earth when I post online… but I feel like I do have to as opportunities won’t arise if I don’t.. but now I’m starting to feel anxiety about posting. Some days I think I don’t care how it does, I like it and enjoyed my day so it doesn’t matter, but then it starts to get me anyway… I also feel it’s a bit ridiculous to be worried but then I’d be worried if I had a gallery opening and it failed, we all want to be accepted by our peers … I’ve rambled haha sorry… gonna stop now🤐

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for sharing. All very relatable for many people I’m sure. We all want to feel accepted and respected that’s for sure. Then throw in the potential for haters to comment on your work, which is what I sometimes get on ads. You almost need a thick skin in the social media world, even if it’s just having one for the algorithm alone, which is ultimately what determines how an image may ‘perform’. I think it’s healthy to not get too attached to it all. Certainly use it and enjoy it, but be wary that it’s not the real world. Heck, even the majority of our followers are either robots or kids who don’t even care about what makes a good image. If the contentment is found in nature and behind the lens, then you have a solid foundation that can’t be shaken.

    • @teeeenyfifi
      @teeeenyfifi Рік тому

      @@WilliamPatinoPhotography yes 100% truth! I definitely have the enjoyment from being out and that won’t change. If I think I’m having a bad day then I remember a solitary hospital room and that sorts me right out haha. I would bet my life on it that any hate on ads is born from jealousy which is a shame, because if they put that effort into learning and doing and not trolling then everybody’s world would be a better place! 🙂

    Great words Will, I actually really don't enjoy my job, well its OK but doesn't satisfy me enough, so to make up for this I find going out with my camera even if its twice a month makes me happy, I can switch off from work and forget about what's bad in my life, trying to create a better image each time is what gives me my drive, when I see what others have done I get inspired to try and create better images, but there are times when I just say no, have a weekend off.

But something that has given me inspiration is my exhibition in the office where I put up 12 new A4 of my pictures approximately every 6 weeks. When people who work there come up and say that you are a good photographer and they like my pictures. It gives a good sense of self that even 1 million likes on social media can't give

    Thanks Will .. great chat and advice…. I have been shooting wildlife and landscape photography since 2014 .. and have grown since .. like yourself I am totally self taught . For me personally the inspiration I find when I need to dig deep is listening to other photographers like yourself . Try learn a new technique from them and go out to try it out . But I focus on my work and not worry about what other photographers are creating and try imitating their style or replicate their compositions . I shoot alone mostly to learn from myself instead of copying others . It takes years to find your own style and finding that is definitely a huge challenge which only develops of much experience and time . I was always an outdoor person to start with so that side I have always been drawn to naturally anyway . But taking on the camera as a tool to capture your vision was my motivation , chasing the light is the challenge and long hours up early and getting to bed late is all part of that journey and commitment to what drives one to capture the beauty of nature . So people don’t understand this , it’s not about the potential of making money from my images but the satisfaction and peace it brings within me , selling images is the bonus we are given if it so chooses to happen ! If it doesn’t then so what .. it’s not a big deal for me , so it’s a personal journey I am on and I was never thinking from the beginning to make money from the passion I found to start with . I do photography because I love it and enjoy been outside with nature ! But you are correct.. too much of a good thing can cause you to burn out .. that’s when I switch off and focus on other matters . Within you you will know when it’s time to pack the camera away and when to take it out . But yes .. always be true to one’s self before anyone or anything !

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  Рік тому +1

      Yes, well said! Really appreciate your thoughts. Finding a style is best found when people stop thinking and just start doing. In time, it will develop. The challenge of working with nature is enough of an inspiration and motivator in itself. I can never do it justice! Thanks again for the support :)

    Excellent advice, great reality check! I struggle with seeing myself and my photos as even "equal" to others, so there's always a risk of the extremely narrow "social media FOV" (as it were) skewing my view of what's real and normal. Very rarely in social media do we see what's normal. Instead we see only what's bad or (promoted as) good, because that's what drives views / clicks / likes ...i.e., money. I live in an area that's not spectacular and doesn't offer postcard views at every turn. So I need to use that as an opportunity to improve, rather than depending on the landscape, if that makes sense. By the way, I like the Isa. 40:31 quote in your last video. 🙂
