"Em" means E minor, E major would be just "E" unless this site that you used has diffrent notation. I guess that's just a notation problem (or maybe, as you say later in the video, because the song has some notes that comes from the minor key it was enough for the site to detect the key as minor). Honestly tho if some beginners are reading this I wouldn't recommand using a site for finding the key either train your hear or just jam around over the instrumental with a piano or something to find the notes that are in the key :) You can then just learn your keys which isn't hard as long I you stick to major and minor. Most beginners I speak with have zero knowledge on music theory and have no clue how to find a note, play around on a piano or how to train their ears. I speak with hundreds of people who ask me about this, I have already told them all of this about training their ears and such, they have no clue what I am talking about even after going into great detail. Some people just will not be able to get it. So I recommend they go to the site instead of not knowing the key of their song they’re trying to record and not able to set the key until they learn music theory. I’ve had people literally press the key on the piano, it’s the exact same note they are singing and they still tell me they can’t find the key of the song. Not everyone has the ears or ability to be able to figure that stuff out on themselves. For them, using the site is perfectly fine and recommended. Thank you for the compliment on the video and thank you for reading the comments.
@@IAMLXGEND That's true some people have an hard time with that. But that's just a matter of training. Don't get me wrong there are some people who really have like a "handicap" (idk if that's the right word I'm not very good with english) but that's actually so rare. i been trying to understand mixing for7 years now and you are the only one who make sense to me (I'm extreamly untalented and still can't mix after 7 years ...)
Man your comments hint at a pragmatism that is essential for making great art and It encouraged me. Like you, I’ve made almost the entirety of my first full length album on GarageBand using a focusrite interface, 250 dollar microphone, and a m audio midi keyboard. From the instrumentation, vocal production, to the mixing, you can achieve a professional sound on that software for desk top. I have tracks on tracks to prove it. The only reason why I would aspire for Logic and use it for the final recording of instruments is because of the plethora of plugins available GarageBand doesn’t have. What people don’t realize is that when you are forced to work with simple tools, craftsmanship should take over to become resourceful and creative with sounds. Would love to collaborate with you in the future. Could talk about this all day.
Sounds like a Robot singing. 😂😂 And to think I payed $100 for a hour long class on producing music at a real studio here in Michigan to not even learn that much and you are dropping all these gems here for free! 🙌🏾 You could really start some online classes $$$ where you teach people around the world via FaceTime or Skype or something.
Hahahaha yessss I swear I can’t listen to future or any mumble rapper who uses autotune or people like Jake Paul because it just sounds like a literal machine is singing for them 😂😂😂 and dang you paid $100 for a one hour class? Psh... I’m actually looking into making classes or doing courses or some sort of private lessons. I just wanna approach it the right way. Most times when I mention anything regarding having to pay, a lot of people tend to shy away from it or even if they support it, they don’t buy it :/
That was very helpful. Never considered sharing my creations until recently. Studying the process to put out a proper recording. I have mad respect for the artform and artist like you. Thank you for the help.
How do I keep autotune off rap vocals? Like I wanna keep it on my singing vocals but every time use autotune it gets on my rap vocals. How do I fix that?
If you’re recording both on the same track there is no way to do that. It’s either on or it’s off. So you have to record singing on one track and rapping on a Separate one.
Fun fact: After Antares created the software Auto-Tune, Cher was one of the first artists to ever use it commercially. This was her popular song Believe, and she insisted to keep the effect even after Warner asked them to remove it. Since then, it became super popular and was called the Cher Effect.
@@truffeltroll6668 Because it's used differently today. Cher used the software to warp her voice and create weird and surreal sounds. Nowadays rappers who can''t sing for shit are using it as a talent of theirs -.-
Thanks Again Your Tutorials are the Shzzziitt I use an iPad so a bit different process Your Generation is so Fortunate to have technology that allows your freedom of expression Thanks Again
Yea I don’t believe mobile GarageBand has the key setting feature I think It just autotunes to whatever note is closest. I’ll do some research into it but always happy to help out
Hey, Lxgend, thanks for a great tutorial. Now that I've watched this no-nonsense to-the-point video, I'm following your other videos. Jim out on the frigid Alberta prairie.
You’ll never see me using pro-tools 😂 Logic maybe in the future but Garageband right now is doing just fine for me and wanna show people you can make great stuff there
I'm hardly using pro level equipment lol. The equipment I use is like between entry level and professional. But not pro level at all. I use Garageband because it gets the job done, it's simply, easy, and free. I had pro-tools years ago. Entirely too complicated to achieve very simple things. Also, I do not have $1000 to pay for that program. I have Logic. But never used it because as of right now, I don't need to. I can get everything I need done with Garageband just fine. Why get expensive software that's just going to complicate things if I can record radio quality songs in Garageband already with ease? If something complicates my creative process, I'm not going to create well. So I use what works for me. And for the last 8 years, that's been Garageband.
IAMLXGEND sort of agree with you but at the same time don’t 🤔 I get that you may not need logic Bc you might be able to the same thing on GarageBand but if anything I would say using the more profesional software would make it easier. Will it be harder at first? Perhaps it could be but only because you haven’t learned how. Just how you had to learn for GarageBand you have to learn for logic. And I’m pretty sure you know this just still don’t understand why you’re using GarageBand and not logic (when I click on this video I actually thought you probably used logic but for this specific video you just happen to use GarageBand. But after reading this comment i guess you use GarageBand) I use Fl Studio and rn I could tell you that GarageBand would be easier for a beginner but at the end of the day Fl studio would be faster for me because it wouldn’t limit me from anything I want to do and it would be the quicker way to do things after you learn how to use it.
Mattrixx nope. I’ve used more advance professional programs like pro tools for 5 years before ever even touching Garageband. It was entirely too confusing and never got easier. Ever. It’s just too much to do to get to simple tasks. Does this mean I’ll never use them? No. Eventually I will. But for now? Garageband is and has always been easier for me in my experience with both advance programs and this program. I get the best results. And if I can achieve the same results in Garageband as I do in Logic then why would I even need to touch Logic. There is no use. For the sake of saying I record in a “professional” program? Lol. I don’t care about all that. I care about what my music sounds like. And if it sounds the same I don’t see a reason to switch lol. If it ain’t broke, dont fix it. I use it because it only was it dirt simple to learn, it’s the workflow is also dirt simple. I’ve seen how other programs work. It’s too many steps.
@@IAMLXGENDI don't want to go back and forth. It really doesnt have any affect on me what you use I was just curious. For a home studio, you have an audio interface, mic, one of the most expensive Macbook pros on the market. Its not entry level. You are comfortable with what you get from garageband and thats ok. I'm not trying to challenge it. You are not achieving the same results that would be in logic though. The pitch correction alone would be much better in logic pro X. You havent hit a ceiling in garageband yet and thats cool. Use what works. When you do decide to switch it'll be quite easy for you if you've mastered GB. Interface is virtually the same.
IAMLXGEND yeah i definitely support you in what you gotta say if it works for you why change right. But still, it’s not even just the fact that’s it’s a “professional” program there’s just things like actually having a mixer tab instead of the simple volume knobs on GarageBand and also when coming to plugins, I’ve played with GarageBand a few times for a while now, but does it support any 3rd party plug ins? Are you able to mix and master the same way as in logic/fl studio. And I agree with the pro tools as well you really don’t need that expensive of a program when you can do the same with these it’s just when coming to GarageBand I find it limited to what It could do. But just to clear it out I’m not hating or anything because I support the fact that it’s the “player not the game” but i see you’ve succeeded with what you’re doing so keep going at it 💪🏼🔥
I did a video on that last week, including how to clean up your vocals and make them sound better in the mix with a few third party plugins. ua-cam.com/video/MGtowfZQKIA/v-deo.html Garageband has built in ones that work as well but won’t be as powerful. And this is only part of the process. Next week and the week after I will show more steps on how to do that.
It was close enough... that’s a minor issue for people who have absolutely no idea what key their song is in. The software isn’t going to be perfect. But it’s going to help someone who has zero knowledge on music theory and what a key even is.
Is the website right or wrong? You make a great point that a melody corrected to minor when it should be major (or vice versa) will sound off on a few notes. The root of the scale being identified is a great start. How should we identify the tonality? Should we just swap maj/min if it sounds off with the backing?
Neil Wall the website is right. Because when I tuned it to what it told me, It corrected my vocals to what they were supposed to be doing. If anything was wrong, it may be me. I know the difference sound wise between Majors and Minors. But since I am self taught I still confuse which one is named which. I always forget if the “happy” sounding chords are majors or minors or the “sad” sounding chords are majors or minors. There are parts in this song where I sing both, so the autotune can not correct to both as you can only set the value to one or the other. In any case, if the program fiddles around with the vocals and it sounds incorrect then yes, just switch it to major, or minor whichever it’s not set on.
@@IAMLXGEND Thanks. Major Happy..... I guess if a tracks switches midway you can always duplicate it into 2 tracks and use major correction on one and minor on the other, cutting out the sections that don't apply to that tonality on each track. Love your enthusiastic work - a lot of people seem to be getting a lot out of it. Keep publishing! :)
Neil Wall you cant do that in Garageband unfortunately. You’re only able to set the key of the entire project, not a single track. But I guess that’s what comes with a free program. Also, thank you! I’m definitely gonna keep on going. I love what I do and love helping people.
im a self taught musician as well but i come from a long line of musicians & singers so i already had a very good idea of chords & notes when i started singing & playin the guitar extremely late at the age of 17. U explained it perfectly, i dont understand a whole lot of music theory but i do know more than the average joe especially with scales, chords & relative notes
I’d wanna hear your style and all first before deciding on that. Also depends on what the vibe of a track is if we do something separate. I just want to be sure it’s something I’m feeling.
Read the comments bro. My pitch is perfectly fine. I know the difference between major and minor. But as a self taught musician I did not know which one correlated with each word nor did I know that “Em” stood for minor.
Lol loved this man...n love how you compose yourself an how mimic how it sounds way off on autotune is funny..but on real note this is very informative thanks man.
Hey man, I know this is an old video but a point of order regarding the talk box: it doesn't technically qualify as a pitch correction because the sound comes from the instrument and sends the sound waves through the pipe essentially using the mouth as the speaker cone to control the sound envelope. So it's entirely possible and feasible to have a talk box that uses flattened notes if you use a controller where you can pitch bend (either a synth or a stringed instrument). Love your work, just thought I'd share some knowledge.
when mixing vocals should I set my autotune to scale of the beat or listen and scale it to the pitch I’m singing in. And what plug in should I buy if I don’t stay in key a lot. What plug in will change w my voice
Idk if you fixed it yet, but I'm pretty sure the song was supposed to be in e minor, cause in the Audio keychain website, the m was lowercase, which pretty much meant that it's a minor key. No offense tho, your skills are amazing!
Yes I know. Read the pinned comment. The song would mess up no matter what key it was set in. It’s a problem with Garageband’s limited pitch correction. It’s wonky and not reliable. I set it in both major and minor and it did the same. No offense taken it’s just a comment I get 40,000,000 times a day for the last 2 years. It’s a bit tiring lol. I appreciate it though.
hey do you have a video of how to put all keys & recording & beats and tracks together and formulate a song cuz i'm having hard time figuring all those things and how to make it together !!
Thank you you definitely helped make it make sense you have to be in the key that you set the auto tune at. When is that song coming out please I want to hear it sounds really really good
hii im from srilanka...iima beginer to music production .i love your videos and these things becouse there ar very expensive to me ,so im very greatfull to you
If you’re using just Garageband then you’ll have to cut that isolated vocal and paste it on its own track. Then turn the pitch correction up on that track. Otherwise you can use plugins like wavestune to correct only specific lines in a single track without needing to separate it to another track.
is that backing piano track a shout out to Michelle LeGrand? Windmills of my mind? cool stuff. Do you need to get permission from the publisher to use this? just curious. I like your tutorials. keep up the good work.

And I know that's not really the subject of the video so sorry about that
Aye that track in G minor sound good though. 😂😂
No. It’s not. It’s in Em. The root chord is E, G, B. And thanks!
Unless this is a troll comment lol
Ohh wait I think I know what you were saying 😂😂😂
@@IAMLXGEND I was saying when you put it in G minor it sounded good. I liked it both ways.
My bad man I read that wrong lol. I thought you were saying it was in G. Hahaha thanks for the comment!!
i been trying to understand mixing for7 years now and you are the only one who make sense to me (I'm extreamly untalented and still can't mix after 7 years ...)

Can you do a tutorial on how to harmonize vocal in garageband? With just the existing vocal record?
Your chill man, greatings from Switzerland. I will subcribe to you. Keep your work on : )
Man your comments hint at a pragmatism that is essential for making great art and It encouraged me.
Man you change my life, The Best 4 U
Wow... that’s huge. Thank you very much.
Bruh when you’re putting out that album I want to hear it that song is hot
This summer/Autumn
Sounds like a Robot singing. 😂😂
And to think I payed $100 for a hour long class on producing music at a real studio here in Michigan to not even learn that much and you are dropping all these gems here for free! 🙌🏾
You could really start some online classes $$$ where you teach people around the world via FaceTime or Skype or something.

“bad auto tune”....
Yes.

Hes normal. Not overrated, not underrated. In the end, everybody has a right to opinion.
And our opinion is: he’s overrated lol
@@IAMLXGEND fair enough; agree to disagree🤷🏽♂️🔥
How do I keep autotune off rap vocals? Like I wanna keep it on my singing vocals but every time use autotune it gets on my rap vocals. How do I fix that?
If you’re recording both on the same track there is no way to do that. It’s either on or it’s off. So you have to record singing on one track and rapping on a Separate one.
IAMLXGEND Appreciate man thanks 🙏
IAMLXGEND *laughing in fl studio*
Just automate it
so is there a way to cut that specific part if the song thats out of key and change the autotune for that specific part?
Not with Garageband autotune. No. You need a 3rd party plugin like wavestune.
yes, you just have to record a separate session and splice the two... a little work but its worth it if you want it to sound right to you
Fun fact: After Antares created the software Auto-Tune, Cher was one of the first artists to ever use it commercially. This was her popular song Believe, and she insisted to keep the effect even after Warner asked them to remove it. Since then, it became super popular and was called the Cher Effect.
But why do we call it Auto tune right now. Lol
@@truffeltroll6668 Because it's used differently today. Cher used the software to warp her voice and create weird and surreal sounds. Nowadays rappers who can''t sing for shit are using it as a talent of theirs -.-

Yea I don’t believe mobile GarageBand has the key setting feature I think It just autotunes to whatever note is closest. I’ll do some research into it but always happy to help out

I'm getting a MacBook Air for Christmas and I'm so excited to finally put these tutorials to use
I’m happy you’d even use my tutorials of the thousands already in this platform! It’s my honor 🙏🏾
Hey, Lxgend, thanks for a great tutorial. Now that I've watched this no-nonsense to-the-point video, I'm following your other videos. Jim out on the frigid Alberta prairie.

The voice in G minor sounds like Michael Jackson
Lol, more like alvin and the chipmunks
This song gives me a Michael Jackson vibe it's nice

You’re welcome and thank YOU!
Glad this is a GarageBand tutorial video and not a pro tools or logic vid. Thanks.
You’ll never see me using pro-tools 😂 Logic maybe in the future but Garageband right now is doing just fine for me and wanna show people you can make great stuff there
Video is very helpful man , THANK YOU!
Appreciate you
yo dude what headphones do you use for mixing and recording couldnt find it in the description
ua-cam.com/video/W1bFpADX3no/v-deo.html
My dude.. audiokeychain.. good looking!
You’re using all this pro level equipment and you’re recording in GarageBand? Why?
But just to clear it out I’m not hating or anything because I support the fact that it’s the “player not the game” but i see you’ve succeeded with what you’re doing so keep going at it 💪🏼🔥
I hope this is the video I need
*15 minutes later*
It is definitely the video I needed, thank you so much

That’s G minor sounded like Michael Jackson 🤣

The one I’m talking about in the entire video and in the title lol.
IAMLXGEND oh damn my b I’m new to all this shi

3:18 - When Michael Jackson found out about autotune 😂😂
Lol oh Lord
hello, my garage band doesn't have pitch correction
Yes it does. Your Garageband version has to be extremely old if it doesn’t.
@@IAMLXGEND lol I guess my dad just gave it to me, I used to use cubase 10
@@IAMLXGEND but how do I mix rap vocals so that they can be more in the face while erasing the excess "ss,tt,sh's"
@@IAMLXGEND cool could you leave the links for the plugins
bruh Em in music is E minor Emaj is major so that web site said it was E minor
Sounds a lot like the weekends musical style! Very interesting, thanks for sharing😊
im a self taught musician as well but i come from a long line of musicians & singers so i already had a very good idea of chords & notes when i started singing & playin the guitar extremely late at the age of 17. U explained it perfectly, i dont understand a whole lot of music theory but i do know more than the average joe especially with scales, chords & relative notes
Thank you for saying that because I’m really self conscious when it comes to the way I explain things. Lol. I’m just happy it makes sense
1:59 his name?
I say who it is in the video just before that. 1:43.
How do you not know who that is?
Let’s collab!!
In what way?
Let’s collab on a track. 👌🏼 You got good vocals.
Or even if I could remix this track u did by adding a verse in it. I think it’d be dope. Great job man.
I’d wanna hear your style and all first before deciding on that. Also depends on what the vibe of a track is if we do something separate. I just want to be sure it’s something I’m feeling.
Ok sounds good I’ll send you my link.
Sorry to burst your perfect pitch bubble bro, but Em is E minor not major.
Read the comments bro. My pitch is perfectly fine. I know the difference between major and minor. But as a self taught musician I did not know which one correlated with each word nor did I know that “Em” stood for minor.
@@IAMLXGEND Alright, I feel ya bro

Greatly appreciate it and thank you!
this was seriously helpful. i’ve been struggling to use and not abuse this feature, and this video really helped me understand the function better
Finally someone who appreciates the info
Yea, the point was that the person isn’t doing the singing so the pitch relies entirely on the keyboard or whatever it’s being used with.
@@IAMLXGEND Fair point, just thought it worth clarify. Much love
I appreciate it

This video shouldn’t have ANY type of dislikes. Dude really knew his stuff!!
Some people would argue with you that I don’t 🤦🏾♂️😂🙄 lol. But this is normal
I pretty much use Logic Pro do you have any videos breaking down their autotune?
when mixing vocals should I set my autotune to scale of the beat or listen and scale it to the pitch I’m singing in. And what plug in should I buy if I don’t stay in key a lot. What plug in will change w my voice
Love the attention to detail -- look forward to seeing all of your videos!
nah that intro had me WEAK! LOL. but thank you for dropping these gems, I loved it
Your channel is a gift from the gods lol
😂😂😂Hahahah dang that is an insane statement. THANKS!
Not sure what you Mean. Are you talk about making an entire song including the beat, lyrics, and vocals?
@@IAMLXGEND yeah I mean when u make vocals separately and beats separately and everything how do u make them look full and fully functional
Thank you you definitely helped make it make sense you have to be in the key that you set the auto tune at. When is that song coming out please I want to hear it sounds really really good
This video definitely brought some new knowledge, however can this similar technique be used on the garage band on an iPad?
It can and should be applied to any DAW

I’m just trying to help folks understand and do the best work they can!
hii im from srilanka...iima beginer to music production .i love your videos and these things becouse there ar very expensive to me ,so im very greatfull to you
Hey I'd love to know how to auto correct just an isolated vocal pitch in a previously recorded vocal line!!
If you’re using just Garageband then you’ll have to cut that isolated vocal and paste it on its own track. Then turn the pitch correction up on that track. Otherwise you can use plugins like wavestune to correct only specific lines in a single track without needing to separate it to another track.
Thanks for the lesson. Can we break apart the track so we can put tuning on the other parts of the song that is different keys?
If you have the stems.
If you mean the vocals then no. Not with the stock autotune.
thanks man, you change my entire life!
Very helpful family, really appreciate it . Keep the dice rolling, I hear that 🔥
