Pat Mcgrath vs Wet N Wild | Can a $5 palette compete with a $125 palette?

  • Hey guys! Such a fun video today! I am doing the ULTIMATE drugstore vs high end eyeshadow palette challenge! I am testing if the Wet N Wild Color Icon palettes can compete with the Pat McGrath Labs Mothership VI palette! I have been eager to try out the Pat McGrath Labs shadows, but as a BIG fan of affordable palettes, I had to see if a palette more than 20 times cheaper could come close. And I was a bit suprised! Watch until the end to find out which side is which and let me know if you got it right! Thanks for stopping by!

    There will never be a day that I can afford PM. This video makes me feel included on your makeup journey, and I appreciate you thinking about those of us that may be on a different socioeconomic level. 💛

      Not just a socioeconomic level but comfort with spending. There are lots of people that can afford but don’t feel comfortable with that price. That is ok. Makeup should bring us joy, buying something we can’t afford, or not comfortable with will not bring us joy. I am a huge PM fan and I pace myself buying one each sale but even I acknowledge I don’t need it. No one does. I save for it and budget for it because it’s my thing. If it’s not your thing totally cool... there is enough beautiful makeup out there for everyone.

    I was actually able to grab her first 3 palettes in a bundle, the bundle was on discount, also used a coupon code, AND got a free gloss that ended up being about $191 (taxes & shipping are included on her site). So about $64 each I was so happy with that! I definitely advise people she ALWAYS has sales never pay $125

      @joleenludwig3005 3 роки тому +5

      @@daniellezadora7637 well in my opinion, on top of packaging, there is the special shades which transforms other shades like no other brand. Some are iridescent, some are duo chrome, and most are sparkly with micro glitter so fine it’s smooth. These special shades are amazing. I really like all the different textures and layering of them as well. You either love her stuff or you don’t. It’s either worth it or it’s not. It’s never worth it if you can’t afford it. I think most of her palettes don’t appeal to the average user, they are too high priced and basic eye looks is not where she shines. If you are a matte in the crease, darker matte in the corner, and shimmer on the lid type user, you will most likely think she is over rated. If you aren’t scared to layer and experiment with textures chances are you will love her stuff.

    • @ScentsibleHomeWithJamie
      @ScentsibleHomeWithJamie 3 роки тому +3

      @@daniellezadora7637 I agree with Joleen. The eyeshadow palettes are worth it to me personally because the luxurious packaging, special formulas, and unique shades make me happy. Pat McGrath’s concealer and undereye setting powder are the best I’ve tried. If you order straight from Pat McGrath, she has some good sales seasonally. Also, she usually always has something discounted on her site. You just have to click through individual products to find the surprise sale. But overall, she does make really special formulas for most of her products. You just have to decide for yourself if it would be worth it.

    I love this video idea! I’m a recent convert to PM, finally splurging on my first Mothership last year when she launched Divine Rose II and then snagging the same one in this video on her most recent sale along with a quad. I will say, while you can make a similar look, nothing can match the subtle tones within each shadow, the curation within the palette itself, and how they blend together. It’s effortless. Also, I would love to see a video comparing the special shades (4 on the right side) with something drugstore, as these are really what makes these palettes stand out. But I do love this as, as beautiful as the PM palettes are, they are spendy!

    I’ve tried several eye shadows from drugstore after UA-camrs raved about. And I tried Pat and Natasha. Sorry, no drugstore quality compares with the Pat and Natasha in terms of durability and quality. A cheap eye shadow might look nice after applying it, but within several hours fades and starts looking odd. Same with cheap mascaras transferring to the lower eye lid and so.

    I just recently picked up Divine Rose 2 and while it’s gorgeous and the packaging is divine I don’t think it’s worth the regular price or the $89 I paid for it. With the indie brands killing the game i think she needs to step it up. EVERY shimmer in her palette should be a special shade for that price. My Clionadh, Devinah, and Terra Moons shadows put hers to shame. I care more about the shadows than the packaging so that may be where she looses me but I would love a more budget friendly palette from her like ND mini’s with her special shades vs the quads she puts out or the holiday palette she did with none of her special shades.

    This is interesting. One of the things that made me stay away from drugstore brands (except a few with sturdier packaging) was when my Wet n Wild lipstick cap broke off inside my bag and ruined the bag interior and most things inside it. Never bought from Wet n Wild again until now, 8 years later.
    Can you please also check on the wear time? I have some ELF eyeshadows which while pretty upon application, never lasts more than 4 hours even with primer. I like my higher end shadows simply because they last as long as I need them despite my lids being oily and that is about 8 hours. I have a price ceiling to the amount of my makeup spending and if they are within it, I generally don't feel guilty.

    I could tell the Pat side, those darker colors just blend like butter. The finished look is very similar which is fabulous for the budget conscious. But I’m willing to bet money if you did wear check ins later in the day there would be distinct differences in wear. I own PM Elf and Wet and Wild and there is simply no comparison with longevity of an eye look on my aged skin and Florida heat. If I’m running errands it’s Elf or the like, if I’m going out on date night It’s Pat McGrath or the like hands down.

    I’m so impressed! My daily go-to since picking them up has been my Wet n Wild color icon palettes. They are outstanding for the less than $5 price for the 10 pans and less than $3 price for the 5 pans. Plus there is nothing like the feeling that I have saved that much $$$ and get a similar look. 👏🏻😃

    I just tried PM for the first time and I am allergic to her formula. I ended up with eyes that resembled pink eye...but it was an allergic reaction 😩 I'm not very happy since even on sale, it was double what I'm willing to spend on a shadow palette...lol

    I have to agree with you. I had wanted to try Pat McGrath for a long time and went for it and spend $800 of pallets including several of the motherships and the quads. Honestly I was quite disappointed and agree there are so many much less expensive better palettes. I truly believe Pat is way way over rated. My favorite is still Sydney Grace, ABH and even too faced over the Pat palettes.

    I’ve wanted to try PM, but the price keeps me away. Now everybody rave about Natasha Denona and I started getting an alter ego dupe and I thought, maybe, and then I bought a ND palette and I don’t get it! At the end of my day I had eyeshadow on the side of my face and all over and I never had that problem before. So I got the PM dupe and we will see because PM have some colors...

    You need to try the special topper shades before making an opinion. I love pat mcgrath and her stuff is worth it to me. However I agree, I think you can get beautiful looks with more affordable makeup. I don’t believe a person should go in debt or financial hardship over makeup or any other luxury. It’s not worth it. I am glad you preach it to your audience because it gives people a chance to look at other options instead of trying to keep up with the Jones.However if you can afford it, and you don’t mind paying for the experience, and want the experience I highly recommend her palettes. I collect a palette every sale because I am a collector yet still find them expensive. Midnight sun is not my favourite but still a beautiful palette.

    I only have one PM palette & I haven't used it a lot yet. There will always be other brands that you can get the same, or similar, colors from. So it's not surprising that you could get a look so close to the same shades. The real test should be in the quality. Do they wear the same & look the same at the end of the day.

    Application of color and final look are only two aspects of eye shadow. How long do they last on the eye? Are they irritating to your lid? Is there fallout into the eye over time? Only usage can tell you that. I can easily afford these expensive shadows but generally, after owning a few, I don’t think hey are worth the extra bucks. The colors just aren’t all that unusual if they can be closely duped without most people being able to discern a difference.

    see...I've been watching you rave about the WnW palettes and I've tried two...don't like them. The shimmers are too glittery for my taste and the mattes get too muddy when blending. I so wish I could love them like you do!

      I too bought two WnW palettes and am really struggling with them. The mattes are patchy and I struggle to blend them. I could tell which side was which from the slight patchiness on the WnW side. I really want to love them, and sometimes I even want to buy more watching your videos, but then I go back and give them another shot and experience that patchiness.I think your Rephr brushes might be the key. I think it would be cool to do a video of the same eye look/palette on both sides of your face, but cheap brushes on one side and expensive brushes on the other to show what a difference brushes make!

      @@julieduran5769 I def second this motion!! I'm not gonna sugar coat it, these WnW palettes are absolute trash in my opinion. The mattes are patchy, muddy, un-blendable messes on my eyes and I'd love to know how she's making them work. I'm using Wayne Goss brushes too. 😕

    Don't know why but Pat is not much inspiring to me, must be the Metropolis palette and others from Natasha that i own or the Jeffree Star collection i have. With them i can make a different make up look all the time, the ones from Pat other than costing way more with way more less shades, are looking very similar, Am too old to stick with those neutrals, life is too short and i want to experiment, a more colorfull make up is hiding the wrinkle, is the color on my lids people are appreciating and not the wrinkles around it :) It works pretty well for me. I know Mandy likes neutrals , and she looks stunning, but Pat is still a no for me.

    You can definitely tell the difference between the two with the application. The way the Pat McGrath shades went on and blended out made it stand out. The bronze shimmer also made a huge difference. But color-wise they were definitely close. Very pretty look!

    • @aprilsun6983
      @aprilsun6983 3 роки тому +2

      Fully agree. You could tell immediately from the first shade. If not, the application of shimmers totally gave it away. She didn't use any of those 4 blitz astral shades, which I don't believe you can dupe at all. I get where she's coming from, but to me it's unfortunately not a fair comparison.
