My story, was in a road rage incident, guy lost is mind with me and threats were made etc etc. Never got physical but about 6months later, i was selling an e46 320i i had and guess who called to purchase the car. Obviously i ddnt knw who it was but when he pulled up, i remembered this shit face. I told him over the phone price was negotiable but when i saw him, i stuck to the price and he ended up leaving without the car. I never felt this good for not selling a car. Lmao. Currently in south africa.

Smart motorways work very well in the Netherlands. We added short pieces of emergency laybys next to the hard shoulder. We have one of the safest roads in the world even though our roads are one of the busiest where people drive relatively close to each other.

Last year, we bought a 2008 Ford Mondeo, with a no advisories 12 month MOT. This year, we discovered so much rust we should've scrapped it, but we kept it and repaired it.
    Issues:
    Both rear arms severely corroded
    Flywheel needed replacing
    Exhaust rattle
Bit of underside protection hanging off
    Warped brake disc
    All rear suspension needed replacing
    CV Joint replaced
    And drivetrain replaced.
Lesson: Always fully inspect a car you're buying, you can't always trust dealers.

Smart motorways - the only smart tech is the traffic flow monitors that will open the hard shoulder. If there's a breakdown/accident, it relies on a control room operator to spot it ion their screens - there is no automatic activation of signs/closure of lanes. They are lethal, and death rates are massive from stuff ploughing in to broken down cars. But as they're the government's idea, they're sticking with them & not publishing the horrific true stats.

HGV trailers are about 10m/30ft, cabs vary a bit in size, but you can add 10 to 15 feet. But its not just that you have to consider, when you turn right, your tail swings left, so If you're in a truck and swerve to change lane, you could potentially hit other vehicles on both sides.

I had a mate who didn't wear seatbelts due to a previous crash he had where he also wasn't wearing one and said it probably saved his life, this crash was in an old classic MK1 XR2(I'm going back 20+ years) where he "left the road" at a "fair pace", it hit a tree sideways, he was ejected from the car and left in a fairly bad way, but the way the car broke up was into 2 pieces when it hit the tree, the rear piece had the B pillar attached to it(where the shoulder strap is mounted) and the other was front part that had the seat and seatbelt buckle, so if he had it on it probably would have had a high chance of it decapitating him...probably a "one in a billion" type crash, but i did see the photo's of it and it was barely identifiable as a car nevermind an XR2.

btw Ethan, Volvo (seen on a 2016 XC90) has indeed already started attending to the seatbelt issue. After about 30 seconds of "beeping" if the driver is driving and isn't wearing a seat belt, the brakes are automatically applied until a seatbelt is put on. On the learner driver topic: I was patient with all learners having a recent license myself, RIGHT until they nearly crashed into me TWICE! Since then I avoid them and pass them as fast as my car will go!
And a more alarming thing I've learned just recently: It is no longer mandatory in my country to have the learner practice on a test track when they start driving. So you can potentially meet a poor bastard in rush hour traffic having control over a car for about 7 minutes in his life! Not only a hazard but straight up dangerous!

What about mini cooper s r53 (from 2000 to 2006) with focus on the 6 speed manual from 05 and 06. Possibly JCW, the one with 220 hp but as far as i know it's way lauder inside the cabin, so probably the normal 170 would be better for a daily

    Hello
Seatbelt situation --- in my country (and Czech rep. probably also) when you drive a taxi (or drive with people with special license) you can legally do not use seatbelt being the driver (you can - your choice) ---> that is for life safety in case of robbery. attack with knife etc. to be able to fight back or run away with wounds -> that regulation saved more taxi drivers lives that the seatbelts would (especially taxi attacks were popular in the 90s early 00s - and there were more attacks every year than number of people killed in a car crash year to year. Now it's more safe but the law stayed.
Also pregnant woman in late pregnancy have a right to do not use the seatbelt.
But yea - when you use the clip and not the seatbelt in normal situation on the road going more than 20mph/30kmh- that is stupid

I approve of seatbelts however they shouldn't be needed to be plugged in to start the car as I absolutely detest unnessesary electronics (like pressing the clutch to start a car or the brake in an automatic, the switch which makes the brake override the throttle stopping you left foot brake)
If my car doesn't start one day I don't want it to be down to some stupid bit of wiring failing.

Top tip if you want to make money on a sub-£1000 car. Buy a relatively-clean MGF or MGTF around November/December. Clean it up, give it a coat of underseal, replace the head gasket with the steel version, and then double your money in May/June.

Back in 2014 my uncle was selling his 2011 Silver Mercedes E Class Saloon. Two guys came and pretended to be interested in purchasing the car. One was in the car and my uncle was negotiating on the price with the other guy. Then bam. He pulled out a knife but luckily he dodged it. He snatched the key and drove off. This happened in London in Ealing and the car was never found

I know “Alan” said a hot hatch for around 4-5k but perhaps a left wing choice to be completely different but for the same performance you’d get with a lot more torque and many more MPG e92 330d, very tuneable indeed and more torque than you’ll ever need, or maybe a 330cd e46 but more rust.

Also, even if if you make one of the lay-bys on a 'smart motorway' they drop the speed limit when it is not necessary. They change the speed limit for no reason all the time and the speed cameras change to their speed. The number of times ive seen people almost crash because one random gantry is on 40mph. Id argue that hey also have little effect on traffic alleviation.

I Decided for my safety I would start buckling up every time a few months ago only takes a few seconds for your life to be saved and have many more years of life to come.
