Same here -- podcasts, not music, when I'm painting. And I have a tightly curated playlist of UA-cam videos to loop, and you're on it. You're painting with me every day, mate.
😍😍😍ich liebe deinen channel!! absoluter lieblings art channel. so ein angenehmer mensch du bist!! ich studuere kunst und hör mir neben dem painten immer deine "podcasts" an
Aww. I wanted ur input in layered oil painting. My question wasn't answered. But also many others. So I'm ok with it. But I love your accent. My mom used to speak to me in German when I was little. Good times.
I've learn more from you in a couple of videos than from tens of hours of other artists. Seriously, you're more aware of what you're doing and why than any other artist I've listened to. And not by a small margin.
I love to draw portraits of people and like to take breaks from the high standards by drawing or painting animal portraits because of the exact reason you mentioned: we know human faces too well and can see when things are "off". But with animals we don't exactly know if the nose is off by a few millimeters or if the color of the fur is a bit strange. Also, I'd love to hear you talk about flow in a future video! That's also my favorite. :)
These kind of videos are exactly what I have been looking for. Showing a little process, but also talking about deeper concepts. Thank you, I have learned a lot, even if I am just the beginning of my journey...
I like how you described the different ways to use a sketchbook. I mostly use it for "rehearsal". I should start practicing dedicatedly again, but also doodling around for the fun of it...
I have always had a fear to oil paint. But, after watching all of your videos, I have decided to give it a try. You are amazing. Your videos not just teach they inspire. So now I find my self spending a small fortune on paints and brushes just to get started, which I don’t mind doing because it’s just the beginning of a new adventure. Thank You for inspiration. You are awesome.
As a fellow artist and painter, I truly enjoy these videos. I'm more of a hobby painter myself but its super interesting to watch another person work. Another art channel I really love is Art Lover and they post all of Sky Art's "Portraits of the Year Series". Its fascinating to see how every person has a way of taking their own vision of portraiture and creating something stylized or lifelike and it doesn't have to be super realism.
I watch Art lover as well, I was surprised when I saw Sophie Turner getting a portrait, I wonder if she still has it, or on the most recent one where David Tennant appears💟
Hello, I kind of knew from the beginning that you are german / turkish. I could hear the german accent since I’m geman myself :) Let me say that the tricks and advices you gave helped me rethink things I hadn’t noticed before. That is what I really appreciate about all of your videos since they are truly helpful aside from the timelapses of your paintings of course. As you explained (and as I understood) uploading your videos is not meant to gain a great amount of subscribers but simply share your techniques with us - which is what makes you so special for me since you only upload them for fun. I enjoy watching your videos alot and would like to thank you for sharing your view of art and advice with us / me. Liebe Grüße Rebecca
Your videos are a great inspiration. I love listening to your thought process, you seem like a well of wisdom and intelligence -- plus your art is incredible! Video essays also sound like a fantastic idea.😻
Our brains are indeed increedible at picking up realistic faces vs computer generated ones. Thats probably why I find realistic portraits the hardest realism genre out there, and why artists specialising in realistic faces jump so easily to painting incredibly well any other subject but not the other way around.
Sooo good Alpay! Like everyone else, I'm glad you decided to experiment and start doing these videos. I started my channel as a way of paying it forward for all of those teachers who did the same for me. But have found that teaching is making me a better artist. So, win/win I guess. Love the tip of starting the teeth first to keep the edges clean and sharp. Great tip! Here's a question for your next Q and A session... if you had to give up painting and do something else for a living, what would that be? Hmmmm
Hey Alpay, Love your video's with a passion!!!!! I have been painting for as long as i can remember and i'm neither here nor there to be honest. I think it has something to do with being too critical of myself. Since watching your vids, I've been finding myself drawing and soon i'll hit the brushes again! Point is, you've been saying some things that is causing me to make the shift from a scared ninja to an "I don't give a shit" kinda ninja lol. Keep up the conversation, Its definitely bringing me value.
Great video, great food for though as you say. You are now over 500K subscribers and to me you are an accomplished master artist in a sense that you have inspired so many people over the years and each video has something good for everyone. You are amazing and I admire you, your work and the passion you have for painting. Whether it is personal or simply to experiment you have reached a great audience and I applaud you for that. Your videos are full of inspiration, wise advice and very relaxing. Thanks for being you and thanks for all the information you put out. Blessings and take care.
I haven't been able to draw in a while or paint and I have the itch to...but I have no time. I'm going to try this. I hope it helps...I really miss doing art
It would be great if you make more Q&A videos! It was really nice to get to know you better. And as a watercolor painter myself, I very often confuse my painting cup and my drinking cup, once I accidentally dipped my brush into the glass of lemonade that I was making the painting of. ^^ Anyway, have a great time!
I have a completely different relationship with music when it stands to creating art (I don't paint, personally, only draw. I wish I learned how to though. I mean, it's not too late to learn). I cannot create anything without music. Whether I'm drawing or writing. My brain needs music to be productive and in fact, I choose the music I play based on what I plan to do (because you're absolutely right, music can influence your art. Art is an extension of our feelings and emotions and music affects just that). Strangely enough, I can't listen to a podcast when I'm producing something. If I'm writing, the reason is self-explanatory but even when I'm drawing, listening to something I have to focus on is distracting to me and even though I'm not fully thinking when I draw, I don't feel comfortable listening to someone talking. It's very interesting to hear your feeling about that. We're all different, that's the beauty of our world. Also, I love your paintings, you're really talented.
Love your work and narration in your videos! You’re such an inspiration ! It makes me want to get back to the unfinished paintings I’ve got laying around :))
When I'm drawing a very specific idea I dislike listening to music as well, but otherwise I find it interesting to see where music can take my hand. I remember a very specific line from a song inspiring me to make a drawing that I've revisited recently because it worked really well for an emotional state that I feel now and then, but I'm not sure I would've had that idea without music. Do you ever work catharthically? "I want to paint this feeling and get it out of my system" kinda thing.
Can you do a video on oil painting for beginners and what paints/supplies to buy if we don't want to commit to a lot of money and which supplies we will be more comfortable learning with?
love watching you paint and love your art... thanks for the materials used, however could you put the size of brushes used - I'm new to painting and not sure what to buy! help would be greatly appreciated...
I agree with a lot of the things you say, we have the same thought processes but damn it with the teeth lol personally I like to give small details in the teeth rather than seeing each individual tooth. I'd really like to have a painting session and just have a philosophy chat it would be a good time.
I know this is a little late from when it was uploaded, but how did you prep your scetch book page? Is it anything more than gesso? I wouldn't have thought to do oil on paper, since it's caustic.
You are doing a great job! I don't want to be taught art but I want to understand more about the reality of art without all the "arty" bullshit! Also Monet is a great place to start :)

I couldn't afford to go to art school or was well enough to take a small college course here in the uk so everything I've learned has been from either videos on UA-cam or books so I feel I'm way behind here. I have spent the first 8 years working exclusively in grey scale as I was nowhere near confident enough to move on to colours. Now I've finished learning about colour theory I've tried painting portraits but with very limited success, I'm seeing the colours being used on this channel such as purples and turquoise for example and I'm actually afraid to include those colours in my work but I don't understand where this trepidation is coming from. Does anyone have any advice?
Ur the 1st ive scribed too. Why dont you just consider yourself a teacher to the artist at heart who doesnt feel okay with paying money for college to develop more skills.
I don't like the idea of transfers. I have never painted like that. I have tried drawing my painting on the canvas. It doesnt work for me. I preger to "draw" with my paintbrush , either straight from a photo of the person I am painting, or the scene or flower or just from my imagination.

More food for thought... also, guys what do you think about the idea of building a small community of people?
Lovely idea, a supportive community is a good thing.
I call it ArtTube, like the BookTube community!
I like your work and videos and I like to be part of a little community but I don't have idea how it could work...
