A draft would start the 2nd revolutionary war in America given the current public perception and disproval of the government's actions over the last 4 years. My family will defend our home against domestic enemies before worrying about conflicts in foreign countries.

@@aaronfogelsanger2550 Vietnam was way different. The guys drafting the kids fought in WW2 and in their eyes it was a sacred duty and sacrifice and the ultimate insult to dodge it. We've been all-volunteer for well over 50 years now. Hardly anybody in power today was drafted themselves, and if they were it was as cannon fodder in Vietnam or Korea, so they know what's up.
No way we'll see a draft unless the enemy brings it here up close and personal, and even then people will most likely volunteer to fight anyway.
I am the mother of a 16 year old son and a 14 year old daughter. Nothing scares me more than them being drafted.
Some of the old fogies commenting in here don't care about your kids. You probably made them stomp their feet in anger.

Search for a way to avoid this. The Gov looks at your children as expendable tools. Do not wait.
I'm scared too. My son is 16 but so special needs he would never make it through basic training. I loathe that I have to worry about my 10 year old daughter though, might have to flee the country in eight years 😡

In September, 1941 my father was one of the first group in Holland, Michigan to be drafted. That was supposed to be for one year, but of course, after Pear Harbor, it was for the duration. Somehow, he managed to survive, and when he came home in May, 1945 he had accumulated 129 points! 85 points were needed to be discharged. Otherwise you would have to stay in, and possibly be sent to the pacific theatre. I served during the war in Viet Nam, coming home in 1971. I'm now 76 years old, and so I think I can speak with some degree of experience. I do believe that Eric is absolutely dead on when he says a draft is coming, and that we must prepare for a war. And the ladies may not be exempt this time around. When I served, I served with some very dedicated ladies who wore that uniform with pride, and I was proud to say that I served with them! Our nation may face a very serious emergency in the near future. Please be prepared!!

I was standing online when they put the First Breasted into the Army, it was all downhill after that. If they are going to draft The Breasted then put them back into the WAC Corp where they belong, they will be happier and so will the men.
Any conscription, ANY, should be met with TOTAL resistance. If they try to enslave you, become a hero for the other side.

I did what I was supposed to do and registered when I was 18. I am way too old to be drafted now. I would fight for my country anytime but not for this corrupt administration!!!!

I used to live in England and council went to war with my elderly, former military neighbour because he flew the George cross from a flagpole in his rural garden. The council won as it may offend someone.

WW2, first the US drafted males ages 21-45. It wasn't long before the US draft included ages 18-64. Supposedly men over 45 or so were just given non-combat duty in the US but then again, the government has been lying to us our entire lives so I don't trust them. If they ever draft me for combat duty at age 64 I'm sad to say we already lost.
They could decide that older or physically impaired people could go work for FEMA or something. They are nuts.

I’m grateful for all of the people who have served in the military, I was never in the service but it came awfully close 50 years ago..
Young people today are not motivated to do anything beyond sponging off of their parents and society. We have a 19 year old grandson who doesn’t have a drivers license or a job. He lives at home and plays video games all day. Personally I’d tell him to hit the road, but it’s not my place to do so…
Another thought, why does it always seem to be the US governments decision to get involved in every other country’s business. This is the reason we’re so disliked, we’re like a bad HOA controlling everything that isn’t ours to control.
The draft was ended because of the great Milton Friedman who was the economist who championed the all volunteer army rather than a enslaved army.

With how bad the war in Ukraine is currently going, if nato were to push their involvement further by putting ground troops and air assets and naval would result in a major draft to fill the ever thinning ranks. I think all males aged 18-35 should sign up for Selective Services! Help to defend our country, like your fathers and grandfather's did! Stop being cowards! And yes, illegal immigrants should be forced to defend our country if they want to live here!!
I think it was back last summer, maybe before as I had a head trauma, it was in the news to offer instant citizenship if 'newcomer' immigrants enlisted in the military. My ex legally came here back in '95 and had to register. He was working on citizenship for abt 5 years by then when 9/11 happened and he like many men I met rushed to enlist to serve and defend America. There was still Patriotism in abundance. Citizenship wasn't offered, but once he was active duty they took on the fees and it was around 2 1/2 years in when his ship had been oversees for over 6 months, not to return for at least another 6 months that his appointment came up & they flew him back from Japan for the final interview & ceremony, and the next day flew him right back. With 'newcomer' immigrants I have to say I strongly question drawing them in or conscripting them in as there is no evidence of loyalty or love of our nation. So, I can't stop wondering if they would actually fight FOR us vs all the damage they could do to us if their intent was already against us. Women should be required at this point for reasons you stated even though personally I do not want this for my daughter. If they aren't required to have the same or similar enough responsibilities as men always have, then the divide will deepen, because military age men do see this hypocrisy. How many biological men do you think would claim to identify as women to avoid the draft if that is allowed? Until we straighten those things out in our country I don't see how the draft can work in a positive, fair way.

I think we're headed that way. I'm not looking forward to this, we have 4 grandsons. 25 to 17. Two granddaughters 20 , 23. Not what we want for them and they didn't ask for any of this.

Having a year of required military service is different from being drafted. Many countries do it and they are considered "free".
I got drafted in 1972. My number was 16. I heard they drew up to #21. I joined the Navy, spent 9 years and got out with a well paying job after my discharge.
One silver lining of a draft is people will now give a damn about whether or not our nation goes to war. They should have before seeing how we gotten to this point.

How does the US military deal with pure evil determined to fulfill the "Death to America" chants for years? We don't have the single use drone army that Iran has/had. And our defensive missiles cost 1000x more than the drones being shot down with them. Unresolved conflict festers in societies for decades before reaching a boiling point. Our nation is definitely worth defending.

I'd like to think they'll activate the inactive reserve before conscripting... but it'll likely happen at the same time.
They already started it . When my son got his drivers license at 18 he is now 21 then a couple of months after his drivers license they sent him a letter saying he was registered in the selective service. So he got his license in may and July he received his letter. 2021 NYC

I am Honorably discharged from the Military. Two things I draw on in my everyday daily life which makes me successful. Boy Scouts and the Military. I use every day a skill I obtain in each. Both can be a pain, both can be beneficial. I have always believed, we have a better nation if selective service continued. Gets a broader selection of unliked mine people to function as a unified unit.

I think that you should be required to serve in the military, or public service when you turn 18.
Israel has required 2 years mandatory military service for, men and women, for decades. All their citizens have personal defense skills and weapons training. I think it also instills a sense of personal confidence and a sense of pride and loyalty to their country. Right now, any male of required age coming across the border, family or not, walks directly to the bus and off they go to boot camp. Bet that would slow things down.
As a nurse I've been concerned about a medical draft. The little research I've done suggests the possibility of a medical draft prior to a regular draft to prepare for causalities. Maybe true, may not be, but I'm glad it's on my radar.
They would look at me, laugh and tell me to go home.
Just got back from Colorado Springs which has four bases as you know. some active duty people say the draft will be back but the Liberal Senators know their eligible sons will also be drafted so We'll see.....

If you are a licensed nurse, the military will probably put you in nursing. Try to choose a career that the person wants and the military needs. Study to be an airplane mechanics, dental or medical assistant.
I do know when my first husband was in the Navy. There was a lot of Filipinos that cooked for the officers. They were not citizens. They were serving so they could become a citizen that they chose to and they were serving their time and they were because they waited on them hand and foot and they made more than most of them because, they got extra money for doing all these meaningless duties that the officers didn’t want to do like make their beds do their laundry cook for them shine shoes
Filipinos have been described as the "Hispanics of Asia". Willing to jobs nobody wants.

There will also be a conscription of skilled workers. Age limits for the draft may be extended based upon needed support service members. All the government needs to do is create a filter program for the IRS, which identifies a persons age, income, location, skill, or education. And if you try to run, the gov can shut down your bank accounts (irs direct deposit info), benefits, and freeze access to travel. Everyone will be boxed in. And the sad thing is that we PAID FOR IT.

C'Mon Man!!
I say this as someone who is just a little too old to be drafted, but I don't see a draft happening in the US, at least not a Vietnam-style cannon-fodder draft to fight somewhere overseas like Ukraine. I think a sort of non-combat-role draft makes a certain amount of sense, but it's been proven for the last 50+ years that volunteer infantry is the best infantry. About the only way I think we'd see a combat draft is if the enemy brings it to our shores, but then if that happens you're going to want to fight anyway.
America's role as 'World Police', while waning in recent times, is not politically conducive to a draft. They got away with it in WW2 because the cause was considered to be righteous and existential, and mostly got away with it in Korea/Vietnam due to momentum from WW2, but it was pretty clear by the end of Vietnam that conscription just doesn't work on the modern battlefield.
Also modern warfare is so complicated and technical that a properly motivated individual could likely get away with being such a 'f@#k up' that nobody would want to go into combat with you anyway. It's not like just handing a poor kid a rifle, a steel pot, and a bottle of bug juice, like in the old days. You need motivated individuals to run all that tech in an efficient manner conducive to the modern battlefield.
Politically I just can't see some politician saying, 'Son, we need you to go over and fight in Ukraine/Gaza to protect the business interests of the elite'. Even though that was pretty much the behind-the-scenes reasoning for everything after WW2 at least back then they made the attempt to sell it as 'We need you to go overseas to protect Democracy'.
I read that selective conscription in the UK will be “random”….I’ll bet we know what that means.

I believe all able bodied 18 year olds should do 2 years mandatory in our Armed Forces.
I didn't want to work a 40 hr work week either but I held down 2 jobs most of my life. One year I was off 2 days and I hung wall paper for my mom those days and that was during 70 hour work week. Thus younger generation makes me want to puke.

I'm no expert but I swear I read somewhere that if the u.s. were to go to war, we have plenty of people already in the military, so there would be no logical reason for a draft. Plus, war is rarely fought with guns and boots on the ground anymore. I think we'll be fine.

It has been said previously a nation at total to war need the young women to keep the home fromt working. The old folks can do their share but the younger people are needed at home for a lot that the old people just will not be able to do alone

I'm coming up 50 so probably too old - but I expect it's our generation who will be sent anyway, as Gen Z haven't got what it takes. It's Gen X who will have to step up to the plate.

If you have a million young men (and potentially women) being forced into selective service, they would have to do it different than Viet Nam. Collectively say NO. The government would have to enable vast resources they already do not have to chase down all the 'conscientious objectors'.
I enlisted in the USAF rather than get drafted . 1970 . I think everyone should serve at least 1 year to benefit our country in some way, even if it is not the military
Wrong way to express it. Everyone should serve for the benefit of protecting our founding document and when the events happen that means serving to fight against a government hostile to the founding document.

Very simple. Part off the requirement of the benefits of this country should be military or community service, like Israel, including men and women. Women serve a few months less, and have the option of community service. If you are so opposed to this government, leave. And as to permanent residents serving, as the descendant of the Irish who many signed up getting off "the boat" we did pretty good and have been the backbone of the US military.

I respect this podcast and am not disagreeing with the assessment of what is being discussed in the news, but I do not see any draft coming. I served a combined 27 years Active and Reserves in the U. S. Navy, mostly supporting the Marine Corps. I can tell you there will NEVER be a draft. First, the military leadership likes an all volunteer force -much fewer misfits. Second, logistically and politically, guys will hide in college forever like the late '60s. But more importantly - and this was reported on over two years ago, 3/4 of the military aged males could not handle being the military: obesity, drugs, criminal records, mental health issues. I do believe in some form of national service, but leave the war fighting to those who can actually fight.
Conscription may come to civilians as well who are not of draft age but can be put to work to assist in a war effort, but seriously America will lose the conflict before that happens.

I've often thought bringing back the draft and sending the recruits to some 3rd world doodoo hole country would give them a better appreciation of how Blessed we are as Americans. Let them see how the rest of the world lives and they will surely come home appreciating our great country.

I have 3 pansey grandsons .they would die if they were drafted and went to the war to fight .and one girlie grandaughter who is not a tomboy what so ever .shes still in school and is going to collage when she gratuates next year .and my other grandsons have got good jobs .my grandaughter would die too .there not service types and 2 of them are obese.me and my daughters would hide them out before they went to fight .they would die the ist thing .this war will be bad and we wont win .few will servive .they will hafe to be tough to servive.do they hafe to go serve if they are in collage or have jobs .one is taking collage course at home and working 2 jobs.

I heard Ukraine has some kind of system from 18 to 60...male and female must register..and are given a card saying they enlisted..and you cannot buy anything unless you show your draft card.
