Travelling New Zealand on a Fishing Adventure

- We caught a flight out of Australia to New Zealand's north Island expecting to connect with a few Yellowtail Kingfish off the rocks and have a fun little trip... What we got instead was an absolutely amazing week spinning with some legends of the sport! Milan from Big Angry Fish took us in and showed us what NZ Flats Fishing is all about. We then moved north and met up with a Ryota Segawa, a Japanese Catch and Release fisherman who targets big Kingfish on topwater lures off the rocks!

I had a career making big $ as a 3D Artist, but was never happy and nearly killed myself with how much I was working! Now I have no $ but lots and lots of spare time to do these trips and hang out with my family and I'm 100x happier! Haha so yeah I definitely know the feeling aye! Stoked you loved the film mate!

G'day boys... It's so great to see guys your age being so passionate about fishing. My hubby & I bind our own rods from scratch, selecting the right blank to suit the type of fish you want to chase is so important.
We have mastered the art of weaving Marlin & other superior game fish just above the grip which adds some class & personalises your tackle. The dearest rod we ever made was for a business man from Sydney. We added some gold plated roller guides, weaved a bluefin tuna with the finest cotton available & shortened the grip to suit his arm length. My hubby made a stainless bent butt & added it to this "Extreme" boat rod.
Always check that guides are placed on the backbone of any shop purchased fishing rod, we've seen dozens of people lose monumental catches due to this fact.

Dave from NZ here-the kingies we have at White Island (a small active volcanic island) are much much bigger than the types that cruise around the shore. If you ever come back you must try there with jigging too. A GT cannot hold a flame to a White Island King. You're legs will turn to jelly & you won't be able to visit "Mrs Palmer & her 5 daughters" for a long time after as your forearms will be melted. Love to catch a Queenie in Aus myself, but I have been catching kings for years and they never fail to excite & challenge my Stella/Catalina & I. Tight Lines yo!

Man this reminded me so much of my trip to NZ. Just out of School i went to Nz for 9 months in 2009. Thats where i really started to fish again. Mainly fished for Kawai on the north island (i guess thats where u guys were from the looks of it). Such awesome fishing there and the Kiwis are some of the nicest people i have ever met. One day i will return for my own King!
