When doing home made french fries cut the potatoes and put them in water with salt, that way you"ll salt them from within and they release the starch into the water and you dont have to salt them after. It will be the best fries you'll ever eat.

when you use a whole gallon of oil like that to deepfry, you can wait for it to cool down, then put it back in the bottle through a coffee filter and a funnel. that oil is good for at least 10 different deepfry meals if you repeat this process.
then you have a much smaller bottle of oil that you use for everyday cooking. but a bottle of oil that size with set you back 20$. definitely not something to waste for one batch of fries. reduce, reuse, recycle! wasting food is the worst thing you could do for the environment.

And cheese, chips and gravy are a common thing in Australia and the UK so it doesn't seem like a strange concept. The cheese is in a different form but other than that it's pretty much the same thing.

Whenever I make a gravy and am adding flour to thicken the stock, I always mix the flour separately with a little of the stock, then add it to the rest. That helps eliminate lumps anytime you're adding a dry powder to a liquid

@@audreyhopkins1573 obviously. And there are plenty recipes of vegan tres leches.Almost every recipe Julien has made hes made vegan substitutes for, ex. almond mozzarella cheese. And yes, "Tres Leches" is "Three Milks" usually condensed milk, evaporated milk and cream.

Advice from a canadian: don’t peel the potatoes. We don’t do that when we make fries. Leave the peel, and they crisp up super nicely.
Only time I bother to peel is if the skin is literally poison. Idk what you canadians do when its poison but u do u.
Pro-tip: do two layers of fries, cheese and gravy so everything so saturated and delicious. I wasn't sure how you were gonna pull this off, but this looks amazing! I'm vegan and French Canadian and this def gets my stamp of approval 😎

I lived in Canada for 11 years (now in Austria) and I loved poutine so much... now that I am Vegan, I struggle at times to find a way to still enjoy some of my comfort foods, or as Rose Gagnon below described, the "food you eat when you're drunk, sitting on the side of the road waiting for a taxi after a wild night out" - bout sums it up, eh Rose? :D

as a canadian and vegetarian (aspiring vegan) who ate poutine at least once a week throughout high school i cannot tell you how happy it makes me that there’s a vegan poutine recipe out there that looks relatively feasible. also jenna at the end of this is adorable & i miss her dearly💛
quick tip on gravy: make the flour into a slurry before adding it! Raw flour in hot liquids (that arent fats) will cause clumps :3 But if it goes in as a slurry (just flour and water) it'll incorporate properly. :D

Good suggestion. I also mix organic corn starch (instead of flour) with cold water and then add it to the broth. Turns out amazeballs!

(If you ever go to montreal I suggest you try ''La Banquise'' their sauce is vegan and they have vegan options and it's the best poutine you'll ever have. But order ahead on the phone because they are always packed especially at after bar hours XD)

I live on a border town in Michigan and am very familiar with Canadian culture/cheese. I went to a cheese shop about an hour from the border, to a CHEESE SHOP, and they didn’t know what squeaky cheese was?! Do you even cheese, shop? Blasphemous.
@@EreIGo Did you ask for cheese curds? Because I'm baffled how an actual 'cheese shop' in Ontario wouldn't know what that is, I could understand them not carrying them.. But to not know what a cheese curd is?? 🤔 That's not a reliable cheesemonger.
