    Hi ! I use tongue drums for therapy in a memory care facility. My little peeps just love it. I make sure the drums are all in the same key..I float a little Native American flute over the tongue drums (sometimes hulusi... sometimes kalimba) . With some of my peeps, this is the first instrument they have ever played and some are in their 90's! They are beginning to listen to each other when to come in and they're even teaching each other different tips. These are people who don't know where they live or remember their last names. We keep getting more tongue drums and I bring my own in along with frame drums and sometimes a guzheng. They love to get down and jam. Like you said "Music for Everyone"!

    I'm 67 years old with no music skills whatsoever but between this drum and a handpan, I just love hearing the tones and want to play some myself. Really enjoyed your video!

      Wow! Thanks for the comment. These instruments are pretty amazing, right? I’m sure if you grab one, you’ll be playing some enchanting melodies in no time! And hand pans are a lot of fun too… I’ll have to make a video specifically about them soon.

    Great drum! Just reminds me of RAV Vast as it looks like a knockoff, lol!

      Thanks! Actually I have a video about RAV drums also and a few shorts where I play mine. In my opinion they’re both variations on slit drums, but RAV is different enough to be its own thing due to the complicated tongue geometry.

    How do these tongue drums sound when played with hands?

    • @AerikArkadian
      @AerikArkadian  4 місяці тому +1

      In general I have found that fingers sound warmer and softer. The mallets are sharper and louder. On cheaper drums that are less resonant, it’s harder to play with your hands.

    the particular 14note Hluru drum you have is really nice for a budget priced drums, I play it all the time. It has a nice earthy tone that is very soothing for me. it is also easy to play with hands as well. I have a play list of songs played on this drum here if anyone is interested in hearing some more - ua-cam.com/play/PLl9Ja6mnPlbDi7BRpT68yGV7EaXmJU_yv.html

    Got one coming in a 14 inch, same color and everything for $75. Try this, say toy boat three times as fast as you can, then do it again. If you can't do it, just think it without saying it and you'll still screw it up.

      @@AerikArkadian in all seriousness, do you remove the plastic plug in the bottom of the drum? I saw someone set it a pillow, seems like it would loose a lot of sound.

    • @AerikArkadian
      @AerikArkadian  10 місяців тому

      My bottom plug feels like rubber. I keep it in or there are too many overtone vibrations and it sounds buzzy. If I set my drum directly on our tile floor, you can hear the feet vibrating. I find that I get a much better sound by setting it on a bath mat… it’s enough to dampen the foot vibrations but doesn’t touch the metal of the drum. Obviously takes a little bit of experimentation to find the best sound.
