no you're right, i think this is because the massive promote of vini vici or armin for example, who play psy inspired tracks to an audience that didn't necessarily know psy before and so it became more popular i guess, if you follow a lot of channels (hard or not) we can see that a lot of producers follow trends, inspired by other styles, in the hardstyle you can clearly see there was for example synthwave or music instruments these days, for hardcore I cant say too much I don't listen enough and a lot
