Really NICE review, and I found by slowing down the video from normal to about .7 speed, I was able to actually follow along with the dialog. Keep up the GREAT effort from your side of "The Pond", mate. 👍🏼
Bruce, These tear downs are always informative. In the previous video you mentioned that you would have like a little more adjustment of the lens. Looks like just a little whittling of the plastic, and you can have maybe a few mm in each direction.
True, at $58.10 this is under $80 but HobbyKing charges $18.69 for shipping (DHL Express = cheapest). This brings the total to $76.79, barely under the $80 threshold. I'll probably still buy it, and use your link to the product so you get the brownie points for my purchase. :)
Since I ordered one a few seconds ago. I would very much like a few video's on how to (even) improve it. as ever, thanks for your very clear and informative reviews. Lots and Lots of channels did a review on these Quantum's and IMHO your's is by far the most useful, consecuently I bough one through "your" link. Thank you again and keep up the good job! Kind regards from The Netherlands (a.k.a: Holland)
Can't stress enough how much this video helped me to decide if this goggles are right for myself. I own a pair of FatShark Predators V2 and that's what I use to fly. They work but Im not very happy with them because the picture quality is a bit poor. The money is always tight so I have been scouting the internet trying to find a low budget option to replace my goggles but I had many doubts if that was the best thing to do because I didn't know if something like the Quanum Cyclops would be a good enough improvement compared with what I have at the moment. That was my main question and I got the answer on this video. Thank you so much Mr.Bruce for helping me on that one.
Excellent review! Happy to see entry level goggles improving in quality and function while getting more affordable, and less DIY. Those hacks would be appreciated. I'm buying a set of these for my son for sure.
Immediately bought one! You are correct Bruce, at this price, they will either sell out and you'll have to wait a bit for restock or the price will shoot up!
Great video again! Would love to see the hacks that you talked about to upgrade these. I was looking at this as my first FPV google and I think I am going to get it. As I said, a video with showing the process of doing the hacks would be great, as I fly with a group and I think beiing able to select band etc would be a plus. Keep up the great work. Cheers from a kiwi in holland
Thanks for the video and all the technical information and a possible how-to-hack-it video. Recently there are so many videos from so many want to be RC specialists out there but most of them have no or very little technical knowledge. The others do the infamous unboxing and talk a lot but you are one of the few people who actually know what they are talking about. Thanks!
One thing I need to consider doing is taking a old video camcorder with the viewfinder and hacking that to use in FPV. I took one apart a long while ago and it had a tiny black and white CRT screen in it! It accepts a standard composite signal, and does not have any digital circuitry to detect whether there is a signal or not. I think it had some overscan issues but that can be fixed by adjusting the gain on the vertical and horizontal deflection plates. Gotta love that oldschool 100% analog!
My E view is going up tonight- I mirror all your thoughts- I was hit with the "reviewers curse" - my fresnal lens was scratched so I modified an acrylic lens from my v2pros- Will be up in an hour or so- great review Bruce!
3:06 I always use a small plastic sour cream or other product washed container to hold screws when disassembling anything. I must have 3 stacked in case i need one and they are recycled and cheap. Thanks for showing the insides before my Cyclops arrive. Had already primed myself for an RSSI, Audio and Video external connector mod.
Yes please show how to solder an AV in connector on these goggles. For information, Hobbyking sells now the Visor V2Pro with the included add-on kit for only 34 dollars!! I bought one as this is a steal.
good work Bruce. when you do hack it, put the new input/output jacks under the unused hatch on the bottom right side of the unit, that way they could be hidden when not in use.
sweet video. way better then a lot of reviews on this that are out there.. Please, pretty please, do the mods on this. Love the mod videos you do, and this would be epic level since its already a good value on the price. Especially the video in, modding the chip, and then adding the diversity.. There is some Laforge diversity module play out there.. what do you think about adding something like that to this ? would definitely give you the ability to change the channels in another way, better at that actually. Once again, thank you sir for your awesome Videos !!!! Ill be sharing this baby on FB for sure
Where would one get the software for this so it could be hacked for the channel select? Seems very unlikely unless the manufacturer is sharing or somebody does an open source rewrite. I would really like the channel select feature.
I need to agree. I wanted a second pair of goggles to be able to demonstrate FPV properly (read my LOS flying sucks). I would get those, but of course at the same time HK runs big discount on the V2 pros and I do have fr632 I use for a station when flying alone. So went with V2. What a great times.
Bruce, thanks for the response, I've just ordered the Cyclops so I hope I can focus on this screen. I might be in the UK but my daughter is in Wellington so I'll set her on you if they I still can't see!
For the channels 8 small bicolour leds on the inside up close to the screen end, five on red (one green) to show bank and all on green (one red) for channel. they only need to be on while changing frequency obviously, any colours to suit by the way. I'd prefer to see them inside so you can change frequency while checking the picture and spot ghost channels more easily.
Use wifibroadcast as an HD diversity rx/tx. only problem is you have to carry a raspberry pi but then you can use your cell & google cardboard as the screen. Much cheaper overall
This isn't your grand-ma's WIFI, this is wifibroadcast, it disabled lots of wifi features that made FPV worse. How does a latency of 80 to 150ms sound ? Just make sure you use the CSI port camera on the RPI and NOT a usb camera.
They arrived, they work heaps better than the v2 for me. I can focus-yay! What's with the 'audio out', they have no audio -or do they? Love to see a video of an external video-in for a separate Rx. Thanks for all your work mate.
Love the more compact sleekness and brighter screen over my V2's. I wonder how easy it would be to add diversity receiver inside and increase lens travel.
I bought these for 48 dollars shipped and have been using them for almost a year and I can't justify upgrading yet. The V2 offers an auxiliary input that could be fun for using with an antenna tracking ground station. Slap a decent antenna on the V1 and use all your old 1300mah 3s batteries with the included xt60 adapter for all day fun. I use the Eachine ROTG01 as my dvr directly to my phone. My eyepiece foam is just starting to break down after traveling and being abused in luggage, easy fix😉
Great review, for such a low price, can you add a diversity receiver to it and maybe a dvr so if you crash you can playback where your craft went down, that would be really handy for new pilots like me that crash a lot
I would love to see your hack... and (time allowing) a possible walk-thru of the code mash... what a great platform to explore all of the above! I could see this leading to a lot of ground-up DIY, for those that just have to do that sort of thing.... er.. self incl :)By knowing that, one could possibly opt for multi-LCD, multi-Rx and/or 3D capabilities... all DIY (given time and budget of course).... thoughts?Thank you again for sharing your wisdom and invaluable experience... these are my fav sorts of videos..cheers from SeattleJohn
A few youtubers found the actual screen quality a bit less than the FPV V2 Pro which is now at an ultimate low of 35 USD. I'm still in doubt. This one is cheaper in total, but maybe the V2 Pro with the price drop is more interesting now.
You can hack those LCDs to have a brighter backlight. I had bought a crap $16 monitor on amazon for FPV to hot glue to the Tx. The glare is bad on it & it was too dim. When making a custom connector for it, I killed the switchmode regulator inside it with reverse polarity. Luckily I was able to solder up a replacement buck converter using LM2596 and some through-hole junk I had laying around. I used a MAXIM boost converter chip to power the LED backlight separately because that needed about 30Vdc. Now the backlight is plenty bright enough for viewing outside even though I lost digital control of the backlight setting (because the processor can't talk to my boost converter). I think I will scuff up the polished screen to reduce glare.
Awesome work Bruce! Quite a bit more detailed than the quick dismantling I did in my review. Rock on! :-). Did you already figure out which of the cables going from the receiver to the monitor are for video & ground?
Awesome. Thanks for the quick answer. Will you do a follow-up video on this or can you maybe share those details here? I'm looking forward to hack mine as well and this would help a lot :-)
Bruce, at 7:18 you id'd the 2nd pin as Audio Out. I remember you complaining in the unboxing review it had no audio. ??? Also, re the scan button which you didn't like its functioning. I have these, & rather than press-'n-hold for scan, just quick press-'n-releasing it cycles thru the channels. I have no trouble syncing with any Tx's in a 2-3 seconds. Try yours that way, see if it works. In fact, mine don't 'scan' at all, & the p-'n-r is the only way I can get it to work!
Have you tried the quanum goggles with the screen set to 4:3 instead of 16:9? I use them in 4:3 and the picture is way better. The image that we get is actually 4:3. I've noticed that a lot of people complain about the lens not working right. But if you change the aspect ratio it works better because the lens doesn't have to focus on the whole screen.
Bruce I would be very interested if you made a video demonstrating how to do all the things you mentioned, if also like to hear your thoughts on installing a second video receiver in the other side of the goggles and installing one of your diy diversity controllers. Cheers
Very similar to the Eachine VR-007. Each have about the same channel selection and menu functions. The VR-007 doesn't have the focal adjustment though and I haven't figured out a sensible hack for that yet. I would be interested in the AV mod, and what it would take to add a DVR. I know this all starts to add up the cost, but it is interesting to learn if I can. The DIY curse is strong!
Honestly if i buy one of these, first thing i will do will be probably try to add a video input to it, the receiver is usless for me lol Thanks for sharing Bruce :)
Count me in for the video in/out hack. Audio too! Isn't that AO1 pin next to the VO1 pin an audio out? Then you could tell if the engine is sputtering and about to run out of gas ;) I know just enough electronics to get in trouble, but not enough to get back out, but it looks like a couple of wires soldered to the transmitter chip pins and leading to a couple of output jacks. Maybe just one audio/video jack if that is feasible. John
Their website lists it as an "autoscan" button... so I would take that as every time you push the button it cycles up to the next higher channel where it detects a signal. So not the strongest signal which could be bad but just the next signal it picks up in order which also isn't good if there are a ton of channels in use.
very interested in the video in / out - would like to put a forward mounted camera on the unit and toggle between front camera and model camera - awesome job on the tear down! thanks!
You don't need to hack it in, instead get these (when released). Quanum and Fatshark are working together to create this and it seems to be a dream team, the cost of Quanum with the quality of Fatshark, remarkable. www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=105250
Hello Bruce. Nice review as always, so thanks for your work, I just received mine and love them :) What i would like to see is the audio out hack if you have the time...that'd be relly nice. :)
Hi Bruce, sadly the cheapest shipping is 31% the price of the goggles. I can buy the Eachine EV800 FPV Goggles from Banggood for about $5 AUD more. The EV800 has a built in 3.7v 2000mAh battery plus will accept 5 to 12v power backup from a small power port. It has a 5.8G 40 channel race band auto search receiver, plus a separate band and channel button. It also has a headphones port so is sound capable. The screen appears to show details of the channel and has a battery indicator. It also has a 6mm tripod connection as the front half separates so you can use it as a small monitor. The negative I see are I don't think you can adjust the lens. The Eachine EV800 looks very similar to the Quanum Cylops as a beginner FPV goggles and would be better bang for buck for me. Here is the link if you wish t check out the specks: www.banggood.com/Eachine-EV800-5-Inches-800x480-FPV-Goggles-5_8G-40CH-Raceband-Auto-Searching-Build-In-Battery-p-1053357.html
ABMNS PRODUCTION It would make sense, go to Eachine ask for the minimum specs to fit a price. I was going to buy the Quanum Cyclops but the shipping killed the deal. The EV800 price included shipping so I purchased those instead.
I would like for you to do a range test on these, and then replace the antennas with the AOMWAY 4 leaf clover antennas, to see if there is any better signal to these goggles
Brilliant video Bruce. I would like to see the video in hack too. I have 1.2 ghz system and would like to use those googles with 1.2 when needed. Thank you.
Hi Bruce, I know this clip is a bit old by now, but do you happen to know whether these (Or the V2?) support PAL video? Manuals seem to be completely without reference to either protocol as is any of hobbykings sales pages on either of these goggles.
just wondering buddy,,,, when you make a hack video (there will be enough people asking lol) to wire into the video to have in/out, is it possible to have a switch to turn off the receiver?
Not got an art & craft store nearby for little screw boxes? (re: your tip when taking things apart). Pharmacies are much more common around and will probably have pill boxes - those are going to be the same sort of thing.
There's a chance it will auto select the wrong channel if your point blank range from the transmitter when clicking the channel search button. Since the channel all tend to bleed through to nearby channels at extremely close range the difference between the correct channel and phantom channel is probably zero because RSSI is peaked. So it may not be able to tell the difference. Then you launch and the video disappears at 20 meters. :( Just a theory.
I already have the v2s with a FR632 Rx, do you think it is worth the upgrade? Also what did you say was a more advanced option (the one with the band switches), I think you called it the version 2 pro? Edit: ah you were speaking of the quanum v2 pros. would you recommend I do the add on kit to upgrade by v2 to v2 pro's instead of replacing them with Cyclops?
nice video, wen you have found the right frecuency and disconect the battery, wil it remember that frequency? or do you have to use the autoscan button every time.
Waiting for your Hacks like AV Out as my camera has audio and would be nice to hear the alarm and how hard the motors are working What about the possibility of adding a forward facing camera too Patiently waiting 😁😁
because of the iminent release of these I was able to get the pro v-2 for just under $50.00 aus , I should of got two but looks like I will get the cyclops as a buddy pair , the hacks sound good , how about you include you're diversity board as well as the other hacks :) keep up the good work
For the price of the plug you don't know why they didn't add the video in ? because it's selling for basically nothing. adding another connectors, would ad quite a bit(percentage wise) to the price. both for the hardware and the extra work.
How do these compare with the Eachine EV800 (Banggood) - same video specs but include an internal 2000mAh battery and include freight for $US79.99 (RP-SMA antenna). This compares favourably with the Quanum which would cost $US76.93 delivered (to NZ) and you still need to buy a battery. Batteries are only available in Australia and freight is $22.68 - unfortunately you cannot combine shipping because the Goggles are not available in Australia. Additionally, these EV800 pull apart so you can use this on a tripod sans the facemask.
Can we use the V2 sock over the Cyclops so we can have the adjustable straps of the V2, but looking into the cyclops? Then I can purchase the cyclops and the V2 camo sock...
Yes, I'd like to see a hack video, please.
Really NICE review, and I found by slowing down the video from normal to about .7 speed, I was able to actually follow along with the dialog. Keep up the GREAT effort from your side of "The Pond", mate. 👍🏼
Bruce,
These tear downs are always informative. In the previous video you mentioned that you would have like a little more adjustment of the lens. Looks like just a little whittling of the plastic, and you can have maybe a few mm in each direction.
Looks very simple, hack away Bruce especially the lens adjustment.
True, at $58.10 this is under $80 but HobbyKing charges $18.69 for shipping (DHL Express = cheapest). This brings the total to $76.79, barely under the $80 threshold. I'll probably still buy it, and use your link to the product so you get the brownie points for my purchase. :)
thanks for doing the tear down bruce im definitely interested in seeing an av in mod
Thank you again and keep up the good job!

great review! I always thought my Quanum V2's screen brightness sucked, now you have confirmed this. These will be nice with some mods.
Excellent review! Happy to see entry level goggles improving in quality and function while getting more affordable, and less DIY. Those hacks would be appreciated. I'm buying a set of these for my son for sure.
Excellent, Bruce. I'd like to see all the potential hacks you suggested.
Immediately bought one! You are correct Bruce, at this price, they will either sell out and you'll have to wait a bit for restock or the price will shoot up!
Great in depth set of review movies Bruce! Keep up the good work, greetings from the Netherlands!

+RC FPV Flight funny- I'm watching your video when I got your message, lol
That's karma! :-D Keep up the great work, mate :-)
Absolutely show the video in/out hack. Would also love to see this with a typical FPV feed, rather than the pretty pictures you keep showing. ;)
I bought some, I can see, I have to use my glasses but I can see where I'm flying. Thanks for the review.
I've been saving ice cream tubs
There you go...;)

OMG yes. I was looking for some FPV goggles that would let me keep my glasses on. Thnx for the review.

How about a hack of replacing the receiver with a diversity one and putting two sma connectors on the outside to make it a fatshark killer.
yes this please!
Use wifibroadcast as an HD diversity rx/tx.
only problem is you have to carry a raspberry pi
but then you can use your cell & google cardboard as the screen.

It is interesting to see the connection of video input
Great review, for such a low price, can you add a diversity receiver to it and maybe a dvr so if you crash you can playback where your craft went down, that would be really handy for new pilots like me that crash a lot
I knew this was coming, I wondered what a nice hacked rca-in would look.
Well done. It looks like it may also have the audio feed that we could snag to port out to a DVR along with the video.
How about a DVR hack? Adding a Eachine ProDVR.
A few youtubers found the actual screen quality a bit less than the FPV V2 Pro which is now at an ultimate low of 35 USD. I'm still in doubt. This one is cheaper in total, but maybe the V2 Pro with the price drop is more interesting now.

Yep, sure did.
Awesome. Thanks for the quick answer. Will you do a follow-up video on this or can you maybe share those details here? I'm looking forward to hack mine as well and this would help a lot :-)
awesome vid dude thanks for sharing your input

Hi, great information, great channel. Would be great to do a video on upgrading the cyclops goggles, especially video in & out.
the emax rs2205 motors come with some handy plastic boxes.. i use those for keeping loose hardware in!
Hope the link works in your favor, just bought a set through it as a passenger set. Good work.

Cheers
I would be interested in being shown how to connect an AV In - please.
Very similar to the Eachine VR-007. Each have about the same channel selection and menu functions. You should definitely do the hack video please! Video in/out and manual channel select.
Count me in for the video in/out hack. Audio too! Isn't that AO1 pin next to the VO1 pin an audio out? Then you could tell if the engine is sputtering and about to run out of gas ;)
I know just enough electronics to get in trouble, but not enough to get back out, but it looks like a couple of wires soldered to the transmitter chip pins and leading to a couple of output jacks. Maybe just one audio/video jack if that is feasible.

I would like to see audio hack in it! Thanks!
I would love to see you hack the quantum Cyclops!
Their website lists it as an "autoscan" button... so I would take that as every time you push the button it cycles up to the next higher channel where it detects a signal. So not the strongest signal which could be bad but just the next signal it picks up in order which also isn't good if there are a ton of channels in use.
Lets see the simple hacks.... These look great value
very interested in the video in / out - would like to put a forward mounted camera on the unit and toggle between front camera and model camera - awesome job on the tear down! thanks!
Hi Bruce, Wouldn't mind seeing the hack to add on a different receiver. That would really make them better than the V2's.
dual diversity hack would be great
You don't need to hack it in, instead get these (when released). Quanum and Fatshark are working together to create this and it seems to be a dream team, the cost of Quanum with the quality of Fatshark, remarkable.

Awesome thanks for the link, I am now running the quanum V2's with diversty FR632, and I really like the receiver. but this set seems awesome.
i have the v2's and 632 and im having issues with "no signal" screens :P
Yeah when they will be released ca 2043
I believe the Quanum is actually some kind of partnership with eachine or maybe the same factory which produces most of the parts :)
ABMNS PRODUCTION It would make sense, go to Eachine ask for the minimum specs to fit a price. I was going to buy the Quanum Cyclops but the shipping killed the deal. The EV800 price included shipping so I purchased those instead.
Thanks. This is exciting for a newbie to droning.
Would like to see the hack, but I think Ron was hinting that he wants to keep them!
Just found your channel! subscribed directly!! Thanks!
I would like for you to do a range test on these, and then replace the antennas with the AOMWAY 4 leaf clover antennas, to see if there is any better signal to these goggles
Please show us how to change the channel and band! That would make these the perfect entry level goggles for me!
How simple would it be to swap out the vrx with the guts of an entry level diversity rx?
Brilliant video Bruce. I would like to see the video in hack too. I have 1.2 ghz system and would like to use those googles with 1.2 when needed. Thank you.
Some hacks would be great. Maybe diversity or DVR??
Great videos! Helping me out a lot :)
Just a theory.
I second that question. It would be a pain if you had to reset every time.
Waiting for your Hacks like AV Out as my camera has audio and would be nice to hear the alarm and how hard the motors are working What about the possibility of adding a forward facing camera too Patiently waiting 😁😁
I think one will be on my shopping list
looks a lot like the Eachine 007's, easy to hack in the video in/out. was that an RSSI pad on the receiver?
I would love to see the band and frequency button hack!
because of the iminent release of these I was able to get the pro v-2 for just under $50.00 aus , I should of got two but looks like I will get the cyclops as a buddy pair , the hacks sound good , how about you include you're diversity board as well as the other hacks :) keep up the good work
For the price of the plug you don't know why they didn't add the video in ? because it's selling for basically nothing. adding another connectors, would ad quite a bit(percentage wise) to the price. both for the hardware and the extra work.
So actually in the video you said these would not make a good passenger pair of goggles , or will they not work at all as a passenger goggle
Finally have a goggle you can wear glasses with!
It works very well with glasses.
Would love a video on how to program the mc! Your vids they are awesome also~!
If theres a hack to swap out the Rx for a receiver of choice, that would be ace!
Yes. I want to know, how to replace the Rx with the external diversity Rx.
How's it compare to the Banggood 007 Device... I'd think this product came as an answer to its popularity.
there is so much potencial with this design. you cannalso change the screen..
I would love to see a hacking video, especialy the one button band and channel selection
Seems ther's plenty of space in the shell to mount a Quanum RC540R diversity receiver or something really good.
Can we use the V2 sock over the Cyclops so we can have the adjustable straps of the V2, but looking into the cyclops?
Then I can purchase the cyclops and the V2 camo sock...
Great review! Thanks. I would like to know if the V2 glove will fit this one and how to mod it to use the Quanum RC540R.
Thanks..........
