yes, the boulder can be bought at Kamakura Village. I recommend the boulder mainly because of cost. To get level 10 breathing will cost around 5000 yen with gourds while with the boulder, only 300. Time wise, I believe boulder is fast to reach level 10 breathing.

Gourd = 5000y 4 mins each (so 40 min in total)
Boulder = 300y and 10 min to reach level 10
