I’m not sure about other countries, but $400 a month is practically volunteering. You’d be paid more than double that in unemployment in Sweden, and wouldn’t even meet the minimum cost of living.

Never heard this guys story, interesting, the other Chris he mentions, Christopher Forsbäck I have heard about though, he got pretty messed up during the offensive operations of summer 2023, he was with the 47th Mechanized Brigade(they got some brilliant videos mate) as a sgt, he got shot in the arm by small arms, then their position took tank fire and the bunker collapsed(one of the Ukranians had a gopro going so there is a video of the incident), shrapnel damage and his skull got cracked by a large timber, and his buddies had to drag him out on a stretcher, it took hours. First he got hospital care in Ukraine, which he thought was very good, no complaints whatsoever, then the care and rehabilitation continued back home in Sweden, he is fully recovered now and back in Ukraine again, or rather, I think he is actually in Russia(Kursk), doing sapper/engingeering work, which was his MOS in the swedish army.

This is the Donbass. This was land occupied by the Russian speaking half of Ukraine that refused to recognize the 2014 coup that the US funded to overthrow Yanukovich an elected president.
The Russian speaking donbass was then shelled for 8 years.
When the Ukraine tried to drive these inhabitants out, the Russians attacked in 2022 to defend the Russian speaking East.
To the eastern ukrainians, the Russians were liberating their cities.
Look at Mariupol. It's been restored after Russia took it back from the Azov battalion. The city is beautiful.
When the Ukrainains were there, it was nothing but ruins.

Huh, Russian operations are far superior to Ukrainian ones for what is an extremely difficult battlespace; but thats how it is between Russia and NATO...make no mistake, without NATO ISR this conflict would be totally different. Russia is doing extremely well to minimize the casualties to the extent they have which the West want to see maximized.
As a Swede you should remeber history of the batttle 1709 in Poltava and it was the biggest defeat in Swedish history as a superpower nation. Russia is Russia and this is the same. Dont poke the bear ;)

I enjoyed the vid and just randomly clicked on. I have no idea who the host is or his experience, but I am curious since he looks reasonably young where he would of encountered heavy incoming artillery as basically this type of Warfare hasn't been seen for over half a century .
Even if they are volunteers they can have pay at 400 Euro is not enough to pay for basic expenses for rent etc. in their homeland. In Sweden it needs to be appx. 800 Eoro if the soldier has an apartment with electricity, insurances etc.
I get it as a swede, wanting to put all that training to good use. But man, I could never leave my kids behind to go and fight on foreign soil. You got to admire the dedication to the cause.

I'm glad that people with the right training and skills decide to help. It is important for Ukraine and the countries they come from to bring that experience back home.
But I also understand that it's not that easy just to leave and go to Ukraine like this person having a house and all costs still there for keeping the family going. It's not like people who have a stable situation just can sell their homes, leave their families on the street and go to Ukraine. In our unit all Senior Privates and JNCOs had to be instructor qualified in at least two military subjects, it was an requirement for promotion to Lance Corporal, many times at the time we organised training and lessons for the Tom's.
