With how crazy most social media is, the only thing I use often is tumblr. I do follow the main lolita tag and occasionally see people post coordinates, though more often I see art of characters in lolita outfits. I'm not entirely sure how active the whole community is because I tend to interact more with the smaller fandoms.
Other platforms have come and gone for me, but I've always stuck with tumblr. Regardless of the waxing and waning active user base, I just enjoy still having a chronological timeline, a customizable blog and a solid tag system. If I want to find something I posted in 2015, I can go back through my archive and find it. Anything on Twitter over 2 months old is lost to the ether.
when i started out, i wanted to be a classic lolita. then it shifted to old school. now my wardrobe is a blue abomination of "swassic" (honestly mostly sweet) cat prints. 🙏🏻
I also think the lessening prevalence of lolita fashion at conventions is partially because of it's boom on places like Tiktok and IG during the pandemic, which in turn created their own spaces that didn't specifically need a convention to somewhat lean on.
To be honest the only times I use lace monster is when describing dresses that brands release which overdo it with the lace rather than for people's coordinates because, like the article said, the latter is just mean
I think conventions are getting more and more curated towards broad marketability. The local cons at least, even before the pandemic, were focusing on either getting into the anime/manga industry or on the current top five or six franchises. With fashion communities growing largely online now as well, especially on TikTok, it's harder to build local communities to host panels and booths, especially when communities are either mostly high school age or get into drama easily that fractures them.
my fave example when i show people gothic lolita is the skirt i have from undead magpie! it's called cemetery-go-round and it's gorgeous, plus a very good example of some gothic themes :)
Not really about the Video, but a happy slice of my live: I moved into a big city, almost a year ago. Now I found the connection to the local lolita community and went to my first meet. Everyone was super nice and supportive! They even helped me decide wich coord to wear, keeping in mind that it was an extremely hot day. The host of the event lend me ankle cuffs to pop up my socks, which didn't have lace.
I got really into lolita during quarantine and I've been trying to resurrect our local comm. I fronted the money for us to have a vendor's booth at Animethon so we could do a bit of a closet clean and the response was amazing! I'm already planning more lolita/fashion content for next year!
I'm finally starting to reach out to the local Lolita community in my area, but I'm still so self-conscious about it and how I look in it. Also doesn't help that I haven't told my family about it and I can't drive without them. I did show a coord to my Discord friends and learned that one of them is into Ouji. He's even making his own pants!
i don't follow any lolita tags but tumblr in general is having something of a revival rn, so it might be worth checking out! I'd follow you if you made a new blog :D

A lot of the Lolita community are also members of the disability community. Conventions are less accessible because they no longer maintain covid safety measures. Most of the immunocompromised folks i know caught it in 2023, including a friend last month. 100% it's because all rhe community prevention measures that protected them in 2020-2022 are gone but they still have to, you know, shop for groceries. While less people are hospitalized, it's still very contagious and boy do there always seem to be new strains to catch. That's my two cent theory on partial lolita decline anyway.
I feel like tumblr is being slowly but surely revitalized, some of the lolita and alt fashion people I used to follow seem to still post and a lot of people are migrating back.
I tried actively posting lolita on tumblr for a while but it feels like most of your notes end up being sissy/ddlg kink blogs, even if you put warning against them on your blog/posts - I'm not anti-kink, but I'm very particularly about my boundaries and it got to a point where I was PMing these people like "CAN YOU READ???" and I just gave it up as a bad job, it just ended up feeling gross. I am still active on my personal/fandom blog, though.
On tumblr there are mostly some blogs that regularly post their own coords (only 10 ish) and then there are blogs that post stock photos/other peoples instagram photos.
It's funny i think I've given up on determining whether my main substyle is technically classic or sweet because like, my main color schemes are jewel tones and browns, with tea sets, cherries, and ornate wallpaper as fave motifs, and I really only use an A-line petti since i favor that shape on my body. However i also have bunnies in Halloween costumes and kittens in boba tea on dresses so 😂 Almost all of my jewelry is definitely more classic, with gold chains and pearls with glass beads and cameos, though i also love to do the motif-heavy thing you see most in sweet! So i give up I'm bi-substyle i guess 🤣

I haven't been watching lolita content either because everything was making me sad. But this was great to help me think about the pieces I have and what I hope to do with them in the future!

Lolitas are still on Tumblr!!! We're not as active, but not completely dead. Most people are posting specifically for blogging. Since you're an influencer, it might not be worth going back to. Don't expect a lot of growth.

I often use the word brolita to myself. what was written there stinks of transphobia when they say cis man i am brolita am trans man. I agree with you if someone says ask for criticism then you can say your part without being mean as you say. but if people haven't said anything, don't give criticism if someone didn't ask for it.

You can still search "lolita fashion" and find correctly tagged posts, although the occasionally other post slips through. A lot of the blogs I followed are unfortunately dead or less active nowadays. I also started a pillowfort group a few years ago as well, but lost steam when it wasn't very active (other people moderate now.) Some of the best lolita tumblrs I follow are the Innocent World tumblr (which usually reblogs posts from other users and then provides sources for the items used) and cheapieclassic, who handmakes really beautiful loita dresses. cryptkasper also stills posts sometimes.
