I personally think this cover hasn't CHANGED the tone, so much as it REVEALED the tone of the lyrics. It's about being desperate enough for a partner in one's lonely life that one is willing to beg to mythical creatures for help.

Okay so usually I listen to the oldie versions of these, the a Capella and vocals, but this really gave me shivers, the once peppy and romantic fun song turned so dark and eerie... really changed the vibe and contradicts the lyrics in such a perfect way.
Being that I am almost 33 years old, and my mother being a baby boomer from the late 40's, I was raised on the 1958 version of this song by the Chordettes. I honestly have not heard a cover of this song before, but I am truly impressed with this remake. I would love to hear you all make a version of Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, Love Potion #9 by the Searchers, or Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by the Platters. More so the first and last...I hope you all can make this happen! :D
The Sandman he is referring to is a European myth about a mystical bard that brings people asleep and induces dreams into them to make them feel better. So I'm not sure it'd fit your purposes! :)
There was an excellent book I'd read years ago that ended with the main character floating away in an escape pod after saving the world from an asteroid. The book ended with him dying while listening to his favorite song on repeat. This is the type of song I'd imagine he would listen to as he floated away to the emptiness of space.

Okay so usually I listen to the oldie versions of these, the a Capella and vocals, but this really gave me shivers, the once peppy and romantic fun song turned so dark and eerie... really changed the vibe and contradicts the lyrics in such a perfect way.

Being that I am almost 33 years old, and my mother being a baby boomer from the late 40's, I was raised on the 1958 version of this song by the Chordettes. I honestly have not heard a cover of this song before, but I am truly impressed with this remake. I would love to hear you all make a version of Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, Love Potion #9 by the Searchers, or Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by the Platters. More so the first and last...I hope you all can make this happen! :D

There was an excellent book I'd read years ago that ended with the main character floating away in an escape pod after saving the world from an asteroid. The book ended with him dying while listening to his favorite song on repeat. This is the type of song I'd imagine he would listen to as he floated away to the emptiness of space.
