Dr. Neil, thank you so much for your videos - they are immensely helpful! Regarding prevention, I found something that helps me remember them that may be of help to your future students: (P)rimary (P)revents, (S)econdary (S)creens and (T)ertiary (T)reats. Thank you so much again!
Not sure anyone realized but the starting letters of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary prevention line up with their definitions: (P)revent [before it comes up], (S)creen [once it may be there already], and (T)reat [once it's diagnosed]
of thank god you sir, and thank god dirty medicine for a epid and biostats playlist and thank god me to start learning. what a man! what a teacher. Gold standard for epidemio and biostats. legit!
Amazing videos that have saved me hours of reading from the dry First Aid section. The application of these concepts drawn out throughout the numerous practice problems are invaluable. Thank you for your time and energy, Dr. Neil!
Send Dr.Neil an email requesting for his notes, he's incredibly generous and prompt with his reply. Then follow his notes with these videos. i hate biostats, it doesnt come easy to me, i infact failed it in basic sciences - but he made learning fun and easy!!!!!! when doing the practice questions, pause the video to work it out yourself first - guaranteed your self confidence will be boosted. Good luck to everyone and im incredibly greatful to you Dr.Neil. Thank you so so much!
Dr. Randy Neil. Thank you so much! I was feeling discouraged due to the complexity of the Biostats questions ive encountered on Uworld but your explanations have made this an enjoyable process. Bless you Sir.
Amazing! Dr. Neil you saved me..... my previous tries to get a grab on biostatics went terrible now i get them and i answer quickly ..... Thank you really thank you so much
These videos have been so helpful! I watched 1-4 to help with an exam I have coming up and these videos also started getting me thinking about step high yield topics we didn't cover! Thank you so much! I wish I was a part of the actual class!
Thanks so much for these videos, Dr. Neil! My friend that's now graduating told me about these videos and I'm currently studying for STEP 1. The diagrams with the overlaps were always screwy for me, and this helped me a lot! Definitely glad I watched these before my exam!
Dr. Neil, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful biostats lectures online! I feel like I finally have a handle on these concepts and framework to use to work through any problem, so thank you. One question: regarding the question that shifted the blue curves to the red curves, you mentioned disregarding the outside of the curves and focusing on the changes on the inside (i.e. the changes to FN and FP). However, aren't there changes being made to TN and TP in those curves as well (represented by the outsides of the curves)? How are we making the assumption that there are increases in sensitivity and specificity (because of the decreases in both FN and FP) when other variables that affect them are being changed as well? Could it be that there is actually no net change in sensitivity and specificity if the area of the changes between TP & FN and TN & FP are each respectively equal? Thank you for your consideration and time!
Dr. Neil, thank you so much for these wonderful lectures, I feel like I finally have a handle on these concepts and framework to use to work through any problem, I will definitely recommend these videos to my MS1 colleagues .
Ok, something I don't understand at 1:55. Moving B to the left increases FP, which affects specificity and PPV, but you said they were irrelevant. I don't get it? Yes I see how reducing FN affects sensitivity and NPV like you said but the flipside is FP being affected which you seem to ignore?
You are AMAZING!! Better than First Aid, better than Boards and Beyond and Better than the Uworld explanations! These has literally saved my life!!
Mariana, I appreciate the kind comments. Glad it was helpful.

Awesome illustration
What is the last type of prevention plz
thank you, your lecture is a blessing :)
Thank you for taking time to comment.
In 1:56, since when FN goes down, FP will increase, so won’t specificity and PPV also be affected? Why will only sensitivity and NPV be affected?
merci beaucoup for your videos Dr Neil!
Thank you Dr. Neil!

You're welcome
