I love the concept ! Fighter plane looks without the high cost ! Looks like it needs fans with a higher pitch to produce more thrust. Or possibly a couple of those small turbofans used on the Subsonix very light jet. Still some fantastic engineering!
We.re working on the new fan design and should get static thrust increased to 400 kg(880 lbs), right now aircraft has thrust 350 kg(770 lbs). With MTOW 1200 kg(2600 lbs) aircraft will have thrust to weight ratio 0,3(1:3). Automotive GM LS V8 engines very inexpensive to buy(crate LS3 engine is about $10,000) and to convert it to aircraft use will cost about $5000 in additional parts. To overhaul LS engine will cost about $5000. That is why we using piston engine and not small turbofans - we wanted our PJ-II "Dreamer" jet fighter looking kit-aircraft be very inexpensive to own and operate.
14598175 due to the imbalance in the power due to weight ratio of the ducting process, actually a straight prop would be far more efficient, despite the vortex principle on the propeller tip (dead air) being less on the duct system. But it sure looks the part. It wouldnt look the same with a visible prop, but there is a power trade off....no substitute for a proper jet sadly.
Looks like all they are using are small props instead of true high pitch turbine fans. If they use high pitch turbine fans they’d get quite a bit more thrust.

What a great concept you guys came up with!!! This is very impressive work! I have a few hundred hours in general aviation aircraft (none recent due to money), and this actually looks like something I could fly! One thing that popped into my head while watching this- what if someone put a very small turbine engine in a similar aircraft instead of a piston engine, powering two ducted fans via a similar gearbox and shaft arrangement, and design aircraft modeled to look like an F-15 Eagle, or a MiG-29 or Su-27, as examples? That would be pretty wild, and it wouldn't necessarily have to be much more expensive, given the wide range of micro turbine engines that are available. Certainly down the road, but, what if, eh? Good luck with your program!! Greetings from Canada.
Everyone saying it's underpowered. The poster has responded to others that this a prototype with a current T/W of .2 with production moving to .4. The F-84 had a T/W of .29 and an A-10 has a .39. I wish these guys good luck. Hey poster why didn't the test pilot not get thrown in the air by everyone? Was this not the first flight?
They should explore the idea of using small turboshaft engine from small helicopter to power such light and beautiful airframe. At least, it will have the right kind of noise to begin with!
Engineering such a aircraft is impressive. Unfortunetly 2 turbo fans around 1500 lbs of thrust each is in order. Then fuel capacity perhaps even weight and control surfaces may need to be tweaked.

Looks good, I'm wondering if you can let us know how it performance is.not saying anything bad but 37yrs of flying military and civil aircraft is telling me to ask if the power in the plane is enough or are you holding back a little till you get some flying time in this, just a friendly pilot question?
Nice to see it fly again! curious though, I worked with Fox aviation when the project PJ-1 ended, you gained the plans and redesigned engine? believe me a jet engine really was awesome. my compliments on a twin fan, kinda cool.
Interesting concept , but looks very underpowered . I had a look at the specifications it has a range of about 747 miles . But it's fuel burn is very high, about 15 gallons an hour . The small conventional aircraft I flew , it was about 4 or 5 per hour .

Oh, it's fan induction drivin aircraft! I thought it was a mini jet. Not enough thrust or power to fly off the ground without a reduction gear system, but it flew any way.

Saw it at S&F, spoke to them at length, examined it, saw it fly (kind of) , those Russians are nuts. i dont know what happened to it, I suspect it either crashed, is in a corner gathering dust, or they just plain sobered up.
Well, anything can fail including the engine. If you're talking about drive shafts from the gearbox to the fan's, the aircraft such BD-5 and P-39 "Aircobra" had drive shaft too.
