Just some tea, the reason the hair quality was so bad in 2009 was because Mattel sabotaged MGA by buying out all the Saran and Nylon and forcing the distributors to be exclusive to Mattel! This led to another lawsuit, Mattel REALLY hates MGA.
One of the reasons why bratz hair was bad around 2009 was because Mattel had bought all the hair supplies to prevent other brands from having access to the hair. I think I heard this from 1000 splendid dolls. :)
I think the 2009 and 2010 dolls being unfashionable was due to the times. Just look at what girls were wearing on Disney Channel. Layers and layers and trying to be quirky and random was the trend. But yeah the 2010s was a rough time in fashion
I was 10 when Bratz came out, literally their target demographic. I was almost on my way out front playing with dolls and Bratz made me stay until I was 15. That's how original and ahead of their time they were. Honestly I hope MGA gives us a re-release of the Bratz Twiins Phoebe and Roxii. I always wanted them but my mom would never buy them for me. Now I can afford to get them, I want them.
I NEEDED this video. As a new collector, I'm still learning about the doll line, and something like this that has all of the information in a condensed form was perfect. Thank you!
Bratz were so cool As a kid I had three of them and one Bratz Baby I’m so happy with these reproductions of the original 2001 dolls for the anniversary, because now i can get all the core 4 and I’m so exited for the totally new dolls
Bratz were my absolute favorite! I probably have most from 2002-2003. My favorite part was their fashions always looked like real clothing that people would actually wear, instead of the over-the-top pink/pastels/prints they always put barbie in at the time. They always came with tons of accessories. Getting clothes on an off, especially tights, was really easy with the removable feet. Every single doll in each line looked different, even if you got the same girl. Edit: changed the years from 2003-2004 to 2002-2003, the timeline reminded me of the dates i most collected. also I HAD the phone! It was so cool!!
Wild that folks weren't hyped about the Bratz Babies. I didn't even realize Bratz were actual dolls for the longest time, cause I only played the video games. When I did find out they had dolls I bought a Bratz baby Jade and I loved her! She was just so baby-chubby and cute with the pigtails 😊 I don't think I even registered she had makeup on.
I was so obsessed with bratz when I was younger, still love em, I had the pad, bus, everything. Many MANY dolls. My bad bratz artwork I sent in, also got into the UK Bratz magazine in 2006. Had so good as my first phone ringtone. My gosh. I still consider myself a Bratz connoisseur.
Bratz were my life. I loved the posters that came in the bottom of the box. the boxes were/ are triangle shaped so I always knew when I was getting one for Christmas under the tree. one year I got two original Chloe dolls so I still have one in the box to this day. Loved the red bratz lip phone too.
When you said Rock Angelz I LOST it!!! Omggg that was my favorite I had the video game, and would watch the movie till this day, is that the one eith the crazy boss they had?lol Playing that video game in 3rd grade I pulled my first all nighter 😂😂😂😂😂 it was amazing. Forever Diamonds was another fav!!!
Thanks for this history! I didn't collect these because I was at an odd stage of my life and I have been picking them at thrift stores and markets for the last few years after finding a few boys complete with shoes and outfits and I love boy dolls in any line. I agree that they are not accessories to the girls and to me, the girls were accessories!
Thank you for this video! I was never allowed Bratz dolls as a child so the re-release is exciting for me as I will be able to finally experience Bratz dolls!
Bratz was two years old when I was born. I think they were some of the first dolls I ever had. I remember seeing Yasmín and being like wow her skin looks like mine. I felt so seen. Cause barbie didng have light skinned dolls. Even though Yasmín isng mixed like me she made me feel so seen as a little kid.
I had a turbulent childhood that broke up my love of bratz at the worst time. I remember the rock angels but quit being into bratz before genie magic - which is arguably the cutest imo
i am beyond that MGA re-release the first edition bratz because honestly they’re soo many lines i want from bratz like rock angelz, fashion pixiez, genie magic and etc but they’re soo pricey 😣
good review! FYI, I was 'fired' from my own IP because Isaac was not happy with the results of the lawsuit. So everything post 2008 was not my work. Hmm, how'd that go for MGA?
Wow, thanks for that! I get the impression that the toy industry might be even more cutthroat than other industries. I hope you've had the success you deserve since then!
I wish i kept my og brats dolls 😭 My 7-8 year old self had no idea how much I would miss them and how valuable they would be. I had all 4. Yasmin was my favorite
the Wintertime Wonderland dolls are so beautiful. I want them so badly. I collect the dolls from 2001-2008 in the boxes and dream of getting the Wintertime Wonderland dolls
The only Bratz doll I had was this birthday Sasha that wore a purple top and skirt and came with a tiara that I could wear, I really liked her and she was one of the last dolls I got before my parents and relatives decided I was “too old” for dolls, although later on when I was 18 I stood up for my interests and that I wasn’t too old for dolls and that I liked them and wanted to collect them. I’m 24 now and slowly getting myself into the doll community and mainly have Barbies right now, but I’m hoping to add some Bratz to my collection, starting with some of those reproductions of the original dolls for the 20th anniversary.
you forgot the rock angelz video game! rock angelz really is the line i associate with the bratz, they'll always be that mid-2000s somewhat punky line. i love how they weren't girly but were still fashionable and stylish
I am always 1 year old than Bratz; I think about buying a reproduction and new dolls when they come out my favorite lines are Tokyo-go-go and Pretty-in-punk
That’s not actually why the lawsuit happened… Bryant was a contract designer at Mattle, when he was in between contracts, he left CA and went home to Missouri where he saw a lot of fashion forward teen girls which sparked the idea for Bratz. He started conceptualizing and sketching before and unfortunately during his next contract at Mattle. So he was technically working on a new product while under contractual guidelines of Mattle, which stated that all intellectual property created while under contract with them BELONGS to them. He still pitched the idea to MGA and when Mattle found this out in 2007, after many years of losing to Bratz, they started investing. Just an FYI

My friend had so many dolls and even the bratz pad. Unfortunately I never owned a single one :/ I feel like my mom probably told me they were too expensive but it also might have just been because she thought they looked too mature
I am 17 I love the Bratz because they're so pretty and awesome my favourite character is Jade because she's super cute and pretty and she's a fashion designer which is awesome
Haha I have Flashback Fever Cloe & Im gonna sell her, she is ugly if you ask me 🤣 My fave Bratz lines will forever be Formal Funk & Midnight Dance Midnight is soooo underrated, but people forget its actually the first time ever that gothic/vampiric dolls were set for kids as idols & regular playline Also I agree about Bratz Boys - they were way more unique than Ken & they were actually AIMED AT BOYS

I actually got one of the Bratz boys tattooed on my shoulder about 4” big. It’s exactly off the poster that came in his box. It was a gift to myself in honor of the birth of my son. He’ll be 22 this year and I still love it. I was never excited about the Bratz babies. First one I saw was wearing Bey’s “Formation” outfit and it just felt really nasty. It wasn’t trendy, just trashy. I figured them nasty perverse baby dolls wouldn’t last long and just never really paid attention to see what happened to em. I hated their big fat heads that made em never sit up right. It’s so odd to hear u say u didn’t like the distorted body shape. That’s what I loved about em. I thought they were just so pretty with that thot makeup, like how dare they give that to kids, right?! It felt empowering that the kids around me were playing with a doll that I myself could relate to at the time. I was in my very early 20’s back in the early 2000’s.
Yea we know it’s been 20 yearz it says it on the box lol I have 2 of the 20 Yearz Cloe, such an awesome flashback, 2007 was an amazing year for Bratz and I hate that people keep hating on the live action movie it was good
Personally I think between 2001-2005 bratz created the best lines. I'm not surprised Mattel had over 50 years of a monopoly on the doll industry. They don't want to give up that power that easily
jealousy
@@jacquelinelugo5518 Is there an explanation for why the fashions were so terrible though, or was that all on MGA?
@@Nocturne22 2000s fashion was just horrible and barbies has always been bad

The Tokyo-a-Go-Go Jade is still my favorite old doll.
Whoaaa nostalgia...I wanted her so bad
I have one, I love her
I really wish I could have gotten the others, too
I like pretty n punk jade, I wish I had her
All of my favourites are Jade Dolls (Rock Angelz, Princess, Toky-a-Go-Go)!
Edit: Pretty n Punk too omg
Thank you for always showing love 💜
My first ever Bratz dolls were the rock angelz, I was only 3 years old but I remember my parents buying them for me back in 2004 :)
Bratz were so cool

You feel old? I was 18 and working at Toys R Us in 2004 during their heyday. 😂 But I did get the first Bratz Christmas doll.
I’ll always love the Bratz no matter what parents say about them. They stay trashing the Bratz dolls because of how the girls dressed.
Happy anniversary Bratz

Forever Diamondz and Genie Magic are my 2 favorite Bratz movies. I started collecting them when they were sold as movie Bratz in evening gowns.
I loved the taller bodies. If I had known they'd be discontinued, I would have bought a car-load of them.
Thank you for this video! I was never allowed Bratz dolls as a child so the re-release is exciting for me as I will be able to finally experience Bratz dolls!
What a fun coincidence I got a beautiful Bratz Dana today!
I was more of a My Scene type but Bratz are icons of course
I have so many Bratz dolls I can’t believe it’s been 20 years 💛💛
haven't watched yet, but i am ready for nostalgia and despair at the fact that my many, many bratz have been long gone.

My sister is older than and I remember going to the store and seeing Bratz and being amazed and I was at 3-4 in age
Loved this! Very easy to follow which I appreciate. My favourite line of bratz is wintertime wonderland and sunkissed summer 💖

Ok your old,I was30 when they came out. Love these ladies.
I was in my forties when they came out!
Thank you that was a great overview.

I have the bratz book that speaks when you press their characters. The original names are on there.

i also had some of the dolls and some of the magazine issues
the live action was pretty bad, but i was a huge natalia ramos stan at the time and i liked her being in it
