Cool video, I just subbed recently and this stuff has really been helping me improve my form as a self taught guitar noob. Thanks!
Fuck fourth, oh well thanks for another video Sean. I've been playing for a few years but you give tips that make me rethink a few things I thought I knew about playing
Hi Sean, could you please do a tutorial on string muting while doing scales and stuff? Thanks
Sean...I started out in my 40yrs. of playing guitar as classical guitar. Your thumb or P(ulmar) is supposed to play the E, A, and D strings and your I, M, A play the G, B and high E string respectfully. Without naming colleges and classical guitarists you will find this to be the way it is taught. Just look on Wikipedia under classical guitar. I am not flaming you or saying you are dead wrong in how you play...just relaying info. 😀
You're definitely right on John. I kind of made this video as a response to a question I got about my own style. I'll make sure to annotate it with your comment so people don't get confused! Thanks so much for reaching out!
"It's a good way to kinda come into your hand"....
Okay, okay.
What other youtube instructor could offer such helpful and thoughtful advice on the best way to come into your hand? THAT'S why you subscribe!
Ha ha. I'm Mormon and this is EXTREMELY true, until the second date.... if I had ever had one.
I've practicing all the modes a lot to try and get the shapes down before I move on in your videos but I am having some pain in my inside wrist? Right where the tendons run through the wrist. I know your supposed to stop playing immediately if you experience pain like that. Any tips or advice on if you experience pain while playing? Like when to consult a doctor, when to just take a few days off sort of stuff?
Sorry to hear that Davis. I honestly don't have much advice as I've been fortunate enough to never really have any pain (aside from some nerve stuff intermittently in one fingertip). Definitely give it a break and ice it and really concentrate on trying to put as little tension into your wrist as possible.
Hey Sean, I've been learning guitar since feb this year and have made a lot of progress on my acoustic learning chords, strumming, and the basics. I just bought an Yamaha Pacifica to start getting into electric in hopes of learning some lead guitar skills, but in not sure where to start. Do I need to focus on the pentatonic scale? I've been trying to learn a little music theory to really get a grasp on things.
Very cool, Grayson. Congrats on making the progress. Definitely pentatonic is a great place to start, even if you can't see the end goal right now, drilling it forwards and backwards will be a great help down the road. Just try learning songs you like and give a few solos a shot, the thing you want to do is be able to play something you can hum. Your ear is your best asset. So stay tuned and I'll try making some more helpful videos!
Thanks man and keep up the good work on the videos. Super funny and helpful.
This is also a lesson in how to start right. It will be worth persisting, even if results aren't immediate, to get this down and running. It can be very difficult to "un-learn" bad habits later. Ask me..... I'm an expert in not quite right! Thanks Sean, another real lesson.
Always happy to help Berry!
