OMFG YOU'RE RIGHT.
The clean vocals are there to enhance the song. They give an eerie/melancholy element to it. They fit. They're not forced in there to make it more palpable to people who aren't into the more extreme stuff. These guys know how to construct a SONG, not just blast beats, growling/screaming, fast/super heavy guitars and a bunch of tempo changes.
Among all the diluted deathcore, I can tell when it's Within The Ruins coming on no matter what, there's something distinct about them.

But they own a baritone guitar which has a much longer scale, my guitar wouldn't make noise at that low tension/tuning
27" scale or longer would be ideal for that tuning. Technically you could just put massive strings on the guitar and make it work, but that'd just sound like mud
You'd need something longer than 27" to achieve these notes with any sense of good intonation, so Nik is right. In order to properly achieve this tuning you would need a 9-string guitar; Joe Cocchi however is extremely unique as a guitarist and, well, doesn't do that.
He tunes to an octave C basically. An 8 string would suffice. Personal preference.
Is no one going to talk about the solo at 2:43? That's probably the greatest thing my ears have ever witnessed.

I'm honestly surprised that they still sound good. Most of these bands all go downhill (Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin) but this is sick as fuck. Really like it. Awesome ending as well.

Whitechapel has not gone downhill, just because every record doesn't sound like The Somatic Defilement or This is Exile doesn't mean they go downhill. Sounds change, lyrics change, people change. Just appreciate the music!

Within the Ruins remains to be one of my favourite bands into 2017. Elite being one of my fav progmetal albums. But with Born of Osiris, Arch enemy, Betraying the Martyrs, and Within the Ruins coming out with new stuff should be a hype year for metal!!
