@@flat6fever680 From design point of view you are right. But from the technical perspective (and when looking at the details) the 996R/998 tops the 916. - the Testastretta tops the motor of the 916 by far - the fairing of the 996R, which is slimer than the one of the 916, to me looks also also better => "My" godfather is the 996R/998 *smile On the other side: The rumble of the 916/996 motor tops the character of the Testastretta (which outperforms the older motor by far).
Ha, my SP1 puts 135hp to the back tyre, not the crankshaft and spanked this bike for a WSB crown and is much more reliable - yet its worth 1/3 of the price of one of these???
@emiltossa That's your opinion and many people would agree while many others would disagree. You can live in the past all you want, but the world continues and so does Ducati. They have to innovate in order to survive. They can not live off of the 916 forever. It was a great bike and still is. But definately the 848/1098/1198 series are brilliant bikes and in my opinion much better bikes. Btw, what lines are 'Japanese' and what statistics support your claim that most don't like those lines?
To be honest: 996 (especially the 996r) is GODFATHER of bikes.
Thanks to Ducati for building such a bike.
I'd have to say given the bike we are talking about that the 916 would be the "Godfather" of bikes.

Ducati won the WSBK title in 2001 when this bike debuted. Ducati/Bayliss clinched the title at Assen. Edwards on the SP1 broke down in that race.
