I have become close to your Wihte Christmas, following your kind lesson provided in UA-cam. Now I want to add jazzy rhythm to make it closer to yours. Thanks
I think I'd rather listen to you play a ballad than anyone in the world, always flawless but so warm, I know this lovely song well but you've enhanced it beautifully without pretention. Thank you so much.
Wow, just started transcribing your 2012 version of this piece yesterday and surprisingly found a new interpretation today. You can't imagine how much I have been influenced from the emotions flowing out of your beautiful playing! Thank you! Greetings from Taiwan
Ahhhhhhh.....the bridge...the mastery...the tone....the flow...the FEEL....the magnificent conclusion...Walter...my friend you are a master on all levels....thank you and deep peace to you sir...
Yes, on the middle part of the song -- when the words of the release are, "When you're in my arms, and I feel you so close to me" -- the"bridge," as you say "the mastery, the tone, the flow, the FEEL" and yes, Walter's "magnificent conclusion." You put it so well, David Ison, including your blessing and "thank you, and deep peace to you, sir."
Walter God puts certain people on earth for a reason and i can definitely see and hear your through your beautiful talent of music. God bless my friend and thank you. Sending some more Texas love
You are magnificent. Barney Kessel, Jim Hall, Johnny Smith, Wes Montgomery, all rolled up into one EVERY NOTE PERFECT transcription of Hoagy's masterpiece. You have John Williàm's method and style of acoustic chordal ballad performance. I appreciate your beautiful interpretation and love every facet of your performance. I love listening to your beautiful artistry. Thank you so very much!
Of course, in the middle ages they would have burned you as a witch!! Fantastic arrangement and stunning playing of this beautiful classic. I cannot get enough of your playing!
Found this song this morning. After listening to it, I picked up my guitar and naturally tried to copy and keep up. I wasn't able to but did discover some very nice patterns which in my world, is new stuff to chew on. I will eventually learn this song, but more important, I will have learned even more just by watching you play your great versions of great songs. Thanks again Walter.
Such a beautiful arrangement, Walter! I am sure Bill Collings is smiling down from heaven after hearing that played on one of his fantastic instruments.
Elegant simplicity. You make it look so easy. Love the allusion at the close, to Over The Rainbow (your version of that tune by Harold Arlen is also the very best!) The segue is seamless (on what would be the words, 'Birds fly over the rainbow') and it becomes to our ears, a natural extension of Hoagy Carmichael's best ballad. Both composers would have loved your blending of their greatest tunes! Thank you God and Walter Rodrigues Jr. (in that order). p.s. That Collings guitar is so bright and beautiful -- but I'd bet its luthier/creator would agree, that it never sounded better than when played by you, on this song. Please, Walter, don't stop sharing these gems!
Beautiful arrangement and as usual played with so much feeling. Not only are you a gifted musician, you were born with long fingers to execute some amazing chords. Thank you again for sharing.
One of my favourites...!!! To play this in true piano ballad technique style is very challenging... Piano ballads require left hand tenths....Goodness gracious!!!!
Thank you very very much, walter!! You have this gift of portraying emotions in a very vivid manner, filled with passion and love, something i dream of for my own playing. Thank you for the music, thank you for the love, thank you for the inspiration and thank you for, at your own way, through Music, making this world a better world. Thank you.
I am so impressed with your version of this tune and thank you for posting it, I first heard this tune at the Berkeley collage of music in 1978 with Steffaine Grapelly and Martin Taylor in 1978 . I was hooked.
Dear Walter, You give us once again an exquisite musical treasure! Almost exactly 5 years ago you have already published this wonderful arrangement. At that time you played it on your Martin guitar. The sound of the Collings differs very much from the sound of your Martin. I do not know which guitar I should prefer in this piece. Both sound incredibly good in their individual style. The Martin overall warmer with an emphasis on the lower mids. The small Collings has a fantastic range of sounds across all frequency ranges. An absolute dream guitar, which obviously feels very comfortable in your hands! And I think you too love this instrument! This wonderful clip goes straight to my favorites. All the best, dear friend Wolfgang
Dear Wolfgang, thank you much for your always kind words, dear friend! Sorry for my late response, but for some reason your comment went straight into my youtube spam folder, and I accidentally just saw it there and "rescued it." I agree with you, each guitar has it's own particular voice, a matter of taste. It's been a pleasure to play this Collings for a few weeks now, but sadly it will go back to it's home (Collings graciously sent me the guitar to lay down some tracks). Anyhow, always a pleasure hearing from you, my friend! All the best/Walter.
This piece was played amazing by Michael Brecker in his album with the same name "The nearness of you" by great musicians (including Pat Metheny)... I really enjoyed this wonderful and fullfeel interpretation.. Thank you !!!
An album that included a sung version of The Nearness of You by James Taylor, with the late Michael Brecker playing a gorgeous solo on the bridge. Almost his only great ballad until Mr. Taylor recorded his Grammy-winning album AMERICAN STANDARD (2020).
What a beautiful arrangement. I your playing-so masterful and melodic. The harmonics are a perfect nuance. Thank you for sharing. (I would absolutely purchase this in lesson form).
caught that quote from 'Somewhere....!' Glad to see that you found an axe suited to capture the expressive nature of your playing....and I'm going to school on you, Walter.
So beautiful! I could listen to you playing so peacefully all day long. of course you are a master at playing guitar but most of all you've got an incredible feeling with your instrument.
Walter, Walter, Walter, that is beautiful, exquisitely played and soulful too. You have inspired me to practice, practice, practice. I love the elegant way that you play chords, I use some of your voicings.
Wonderful Walter!!!
Thanks so much Adam :-)

Or all the phoney gadgets they use to exemplify the sound and hide the mistake's " beef steak" 😋 yum
It never ceases to amaze me the wealth of talent that exists. Yet another amazing rendering and performer.
He is one of the very best guitar players on the planet.
the steady rhythm really sets this arrangement apart from most other guitar chord melody renditions. bravo!
Wow, just started transcribing your 2012 version of this piece yesterday and surprisingly found a new interpretation today. You can't imagine how much I have been influenced from the emotions flowing out of your beautiful playing! Thank you! Greetings from Taiwan
Thank you so much, Julian! I appreciate your kind words :-)
So great! I loved that ending going over the rainbow.
Ahhhhhhh.....the bridge...the mastery...the tone....the flow...the FEEL....the magnificent conclusion...Walter...my friend you are a master on all levels....thank you and deep peace to you sir...
