- So what is it like living and cruising on a monohull sailboat with a dog? Well, in this video we take a closer look into how we deal with having a 90lb chocolate lab on board and sail the Sea of Cortez.
I don't know if she is still with you... but thanks for taking good care about her during your voyage. We lost our Lab a week ago... just want to tell everyone... don't complain about the small annoying things... once they are gone, you will miss them all...
Thank you for the video. I’ve thought about getting a sailboat to live on part time, and I’d only do it if I could take my 8 yo lab. Really was a beautiful video.
Love, love , love this episode. You are all amazing and the commitment to each other is powerful. Thank you, for brightening my day.
Aw, thanks Ann! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video on such a good dog. Which all people would care for there dog like that.
She gets babied, thats for sure!
Great to see The REM DOG - look'en good as ever. Does she miss her kitties here in Boring??? Too bad your weather is so terrible. Miss ya ALOT.
Hey Billski! Of course she misses the kitties! She could sure go for a cool day in Boring about now!
Fantastic video of the puppers! Token had a fun time (not really) watching too.
Deep down Token misses her!
Oh man, that stretch half way off the bed is so familiar. I've got a 50lb lab and she does the same. Its a lot easier to pick her up into the boat.
I was wondering how you did it. I have a Jack Russell that is a bit bigger. He doesn’t like any waves that are 3 feet or more. Most people are the same. Thank you for sharing.
Your BEST video! Loved it. We have a big ole Black Lab who is about 2 years older than yours, and unfortunately his arthritis is so bad we can't even get him on our 40' sailboat. So we were green with envy while watching your lovely video. Enjoy every moment you can with your sweet girl. :-)
What a great comment! Thank you so much!!
Huge big like Guys!!
I always wondered how you guys got her on and off when you weren't at the dock. Lol
Lovely❤
Good to see Ramy is doing good!
This is one of our issues... we have a 100lbs German Shepherd. Thanks for sharing! (Oh he got his ear bit like like that from his late sister and still has the missing chunk to prove it)
As we begin another season here in MX, we are still faced with the challenges of “the big dog”. Your options become much less when you always need to worry about such a large beast. If you can train your pet to potty on deck, that makes things much easier, but ours, she hates walking on the fiberglass. Maybe if they were teak..
Good luck out there, all the best!
So you can't go on extended voyages because your pet isn't trained to go on the boat?
That's correct. She's just so big that moving around on deck is very difficult for her. Depending on the sea state, she may not even want to stand up! So because of her unwillingness to relieve herself on deck, we try and keep our legs to 24hrs or less, which on the east side on the baja peninsula is easy.
I've no idea about dogs .... but.....another channel has a four legged friend and to get him to use the loo on the boat they take some fake grass upto the bow area of the boat and take the "dog for a walk" to the grass for him to do his do do's. You might have to be cruel to be kind and have him desperate for the loo before he'll adapt. You may well have tried this already but worth mentioning .
Oh, we've tried it all! She's just so big that walking around on deck is hard for her and the bow area is further complicated with the inner stay. To help prove your point, I have heard from other pet owners that it make take a couple days of holding "it" before they finally give in. We have only gone 30+ hrs and she still decided to hold it..
@@svstellaj1530 30 hour's......she's a stubborn old girl 😂😂. Clearly she enjoys the trips ashore 👍
I don't know if she is still with you... but thanks for taking good care about her during your voyage. We lost our Lab a week ago... just want to tell everyone... don't complain about the small annoying things... once they are gone, you will miss them all...
