  • I wanted to show off the two most interesting versions of the BCP I own to my friends- one authorized by the Holy See for Anglicans who wanted to be in communion with Rome while retaining their Anglican patrimony (Divine Worship Daily Office), the other authorized by the Western-Rite of the Eastern Orthodox Church (Common Prayer published by Lancelot Andrewes Press) for similar reasons. Much of Western-Rite Orthodoxy from what I understand is essentially downstream from Anglicanism.

Thank you for your review! I had been eyeing the Orthodox Book of Common Prayer for awhile, but didn't want to blindly purchase it. I now have more than enough information to make my decision. May the Lord continually bless and keep you. 🙏🏾🕊

If I could.make a recommendation, try finding a Commonwealth edition of the Divine Worship Daily Office. It has all of the morning and evening lessons in one book along with the offices and collects.
Edit: The actual scripture parts of the lessons is what I meant. I just got one today. It's really neat.

The Book of Common Prayer we use is that from 1662 which is still the authorised prayer book of the church. The 1928 revision did not get the necessary approval. In the Church of England the BCP has been replaced in most cases by Common Worship which is more contemporary and gives more variety. For daily devotion we have Daily Prayer which is the best prayer book on the market. It is also supported by an app which makes it more user friendly and I and many clergy use it daily.

I am an Anglican (Protestant) but I love the Latin Mass also. I have a very poor understanding of Latin and it's fun to pick up something out of the chants from time to time. I found it helpful to keep my attention up and going.

I attend Holy Mass at an Ordinariate of St Peter parish. The Mass is very much like the TLM but in English. The reverence is awesome compared to a Novus Ordo Mass. The priest faces the same direction as the faithful and the rubrics are much like the TLM including the Last Gospel at the end of the Mass. It is now my preference for Mass.

There is a missal version of the ordinariate divine worship. I think the reason is that in the Catholic Church, daily mass is much more common than in the Anglican Church.

Oh wow I didn’t know that thanks for sharing! That actually makes a lot of sense. It would be very hard to pack all of that into a single prayer book (an ACTUAL Roman BCP).

@@Jordan-eh3fv In the Latin rite, the 1969 missal takes up three volumes (1 for Sunday mass and 2 for weekday mass). Sunday is on a three-year cycle and weekdays are on a two-year cycle.

The only aspect of DW:DO I don't care for is the new calendar. I prefer the pre-Vatican II festal and sanctoral cycle. However, it is still an excellent publication by the Ordinariate.

I would recommend using some post-its where you want to flip through. All the constant page flipping with no real direction is very distracting. Also, you should write down some notes instead of constantly saying "I think". It will help you stay on track without constantly repeating yourself.
The Orthodox version of the Liturgy is different. And although the WR has the Calendar in it, WR Orthodox follow the Ordo for feast days.

incorrect. in legal documentation THE PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is still trademarked by them.

Also no those books are not based of BCP. this is very dishonest. Similar does not mean they are based on each other. The BCP was based on Catholic tradition so you got it backwards.

    - it 1928 Bcp
    - no Bcp lectionary covers 100% of the Bible, 1549 gets the most and lest after that
    - divine worship daily office only covers clergy who pray it in common with other clergy or ordinariate clergy in private
