And what, this wouldn’t last enough time for him to make a new gear? I think you guys are so quick to say something won’t work you miss reasons why it could. This is gonna last longer than you think.
@Doug McMillan aluminum is a soft metal. If you were able to break that gear for whatever you were using it for under normal conditions, now you’ll be able to break it 10x as fast with an extra safety hazard on top of it if it doesn’t destroy your machine outright. Just buy a new gear and recycle the old one next time instead of wasting aluminum and everyone’s time.
@She 4 The Streets! Those off cuts he melted down are absolutely aluminium. But it may as well be lead for all the good it would do in an actual lathe xD
Looks like it had already been done before in that spot but it broke again. Depends on how much pressure it's turning if it will work or not. Looks good though even if it don't hold long 😂
I thought the same. The gear is also not balanced which will cause damage to other parts in the gear box. The abraison will cause bearings to fail very quickly. A repair like thise is a death trap for any machine. Doesn't matter big or small.
It’s clearly a temporary fix and those bolts should help when the aluminum wears away, not the worst fix tbh and if it works it works! (Even if it only works until a replacement arrives!)
I have to assume this is only temporary, for light duty, we don't know how it got broke, most likely hard impact, when the piece he was turning broke, I think filling it by building up a weld would be stronger , the welded joint on Steel is often harder than the original steel
"Yo dawg! I heard you liked lathes so we installed a lathe in your lathe so you can machine while you machine while you make shockingly bad repairs to your lathe!"
I love how the video loops at the end and he's back with a broken gear, which is what will happen in real life. 😂
Rinse and repeat
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Exactly!
Hry😮
Ya, let’s fix something that broke due to not being strong enough with something weaker
Yeah, t his is one of a good example how to fix a gear in a totally wrong way lol.
Metal hardness left the chat
Exactly! Cast on forged, not! Not too even mention not using grade 8 screws or rod.
And cast aluminum at that
And what, this wouldn’t last enough time for him to make a new gear? I think you guys are so quick to say something won’t work you miss reasons why it could. This is gonna last longer than you think.
@wayd19that is a gear from a lathe, those teeth are gonna rip off as soon as he turns on the Machine.
Ahh yes the infamous aluminium gear
Me too!!
“Bill did you replace that gear?”
“Even better boss! I spent 12 hours fixing it incorrectly!”
It worked... So it ain't just good. It's good enough.
With aluminum so it didn't cost much

😂😂😂😂
@Ponti 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, that aluminium is really going to solve your problems. Famously as tough as steel, that stuff
Re-doing a gear is quicker than repairing, I believe.
"On this episode of how to turn one broken gear into total destruction of everything..."
Truly😂
Should you really be using aluminum for that?
Including his and our time...😂
Yeah that aluminum will never last!
The scary part is that they think it's going to work afterwards.
Repairing a steel gear with aluminium! You are a certified genius, Son!
I think its lead!! 😂😂😂😂😂 aluminium would be 100x stronger 😂😂😂😂
@She 4 The Streets! Those off cuts he melted down are absolutely aluminium. But it may as well be lead for all the good it would do in an actual lathe xD
Galvanic rusting will break the rest of the gear
Lol
But he also put steel bolt

Yep. That'll last.
Legend says he's still repairing that gear to this day
😭😭😭
True
Well, that will not last...
😅😅😅
😂🤣
Looks like it had already been done before in that spot but it broke again. Depends on how much pressure it's turning if it will work or not. Looks good though even if it don't hold long 😂
Seriously, straight to the comments I run....😂
this guy also repairs McDonalds ice cream machines
Lies! This guy got the job done. The ice cream machine is still friggin broken!
Underrated 😂
Oh no😢
Funny cause thier always broken
😂😂😂
When your just trying to get paid with a repair that gets you out the door before it fails. Or this man understands job security
Well that's one way to "fix " it :)
Tune in next week for “How to repair a repaired gear.”
😂 LOL
Too soft😢
xD
what I'm thinking 🤔😳
😂😂
He just used a perfectly good gear to trace it…
Ah yes use a disc cutter to cut the flank
Ahh yes the aluminium gear tooth i cant wait to see how this performs
in pair with hardened steel.
It perform realy well for almost 1 revolution. Until it hits those Aluminum teeth...
one spin and it's broke again 😄
Was looking for this.
Seems like it should be very safe in use after the repair. 10/10, would definitely want my local amusement park fixing their rides like this
I think that you'd need a stopwatch to time how long it would last under load.
Welder left the chat
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
İts me 😂😂😂
Right? Like at least finish it by welding the sides
@MarkEspo1016 he literally can't. It's aluminum on steel.😂
You should get a full ten minutes of service on that part now, good thing you spend 2 hours fixing it. haha
Thats one and the best way to how not to repair the teeth of a gear wheel..
Cast aluminum on iron will not end well, if you're working on a heavy machinery DO NOT attempt this kind of fix.
I thought the same. The gear is also not balanced which will cause damage to other parts in the gear box. The abraison will cause bearings to fail very quickly. A repair like thise is a death trap for any machine. Doesn't matter big or small.
Ya this is a waste of time. If you absolutely had to you would build up the material then mill the part back down.
Bro ur dp😂😂
better off putting grade 10 socket head cap screws, loctite, grind them down like teeth.
bro is watching this in his clickbait channel
Aside from the lack of hard steel, they worked the mating surfaces by hand! The applied force is going to be all over the place.
I love how the new teeth are clearly not seated to the gear at all.
Someone get @FunkFPV in here 😂
Yes!
Yes
Yeah its almost like aluminum doesnt bond to steel or something.
@Captain Cannabis what? You must have never tried welding steel with the new aluminum blending rods 🤣🤣🤣
It’s clearly a temporary fix and those bolts should help when the aluminum wears away, not the worst fix tbh and if it works it works! (Even if it only works until a replacement arrives!)
A new wheel might last longer....and cause less work.
this video is not a loop, it's live streamed, our boy is still fixing and cracking it time and time again
Hahahaha you made my day
O melhor comentário de todos!
Great video.
How not to repair a gear
Not just you... That guy should by fired, even if he did that at home.
simple amazing work
Aluminum: Hi! Can I play?
Carbon steel: No. No you cannot.
That alloy will last about as long as a Chocolate Frog in a warm oven 👍
😂
I'm stealing that one
@Donald Liverance same
the frog would last longer
No!! Not the freddo
How not to repair a gear!
When MacGyver breaks down with access to a fully fitted out farmers shed.
As plenty have mentioned already those teeth are coming right off, but on top of that its use a lathe to fix a lathe and use a forge..
Dudes got a lathe, just mill them out lol
Well, that will work for about 3 minutes 👍
More like 3 seconds😂😂
Not even....
Alex, you're being very kind! 😂
I have to assume this is only temporary, for light duty, we don't know how it got broke, most likely hard impact, when the piece he was turning broke,
I think filling it by building up a weld would be stronger , the welded joint on Steel is often harder than the original steel
Wow- That was easy. Lol
I hear aluminum pieces lubricate engine lathes really well
No aluminium here though. Mild steel. Still no good.
No way that's gonna hold, as the gear is hardened and it was fixed using aluminium.
Get a replacement and return the broken one for recycling.
If the steel failed, aluminium wont do wonders.
Ah yes, let me use my spare gear to create my raging fragmentation gear of doom
Looks good but won't hold up
Root canal for your gears
Can't wait to see Funk FPV's commentary on this😅
For sure!!
Totally not the way to repair a gear.
I Always think about him when i see this shorts...
I came here for this comment and you did not disappoint!❤
There ya go!
I, too, sought to find this comment.
I would fill in the cracks with a tig welder.
😂😂😂 title should be
“how to fix a gear with soft cheese” 🧀
I about spit my dip out on that 1
😂😂😂 ahahaha lol
He should use ramen and superglue
Oh sure nothing can go wrong fixing tempered steel with aluminium
If it ain't fixed, don't broke it
Yeah. Let me know how those aluminum splines hold up 😂
Mild steel. Still, they're gonna hold... for one whole revolution!
First time you engage the transmission I know exactly where I should look to find the failure
...now you know how NOT to do this
I think this is a great way to ensure complete failure and destruction of other gears. Well done.
Oh yeah, that was easy!
How did you trim the studs underneath the cam gear??
This is perfect for when the repaired gear is mounted on a coffee table lol
Aluminum???? 😢
My gear is cack, its got a huge cack in it. How did my gear get cacked? 😢
So you used aluminium on a steel gear... Nice one Gary...
It’s only a display model.
It's probably another alloy, like Babbitt.
Its Zamak.
@Rollin Chunder
It's coated mild steel.
Next time just use hot glue or lead solder, would last about as long under load
As a machinist this turns my stomach
Lovly gap in the casting….sure that won’t ever be a problem 👍
I like to use wood and paint it metallic
😂 he would have to do this everytime he used it
Bro a new gear was 32 dollars on Amazon
How the teeth ended up even half way looking involute when he was done... BRAVO!!!
is it reliable?
Yes gotta love the UA-cam repair video that will end you up with a busted machine
Or a busted you
Reparar dente de engrenagem com alumínio? Vai funcionar perfeitamente!
I like how you need a lathe to fix the lathe gear.
Nice art project.
I wasn't sure if anybody was going to catch that 😂
I got a grin outta that point too!
He also used a new gear to make reference marks
"Yo dawg! I heard you liked lathes so we installed a lathe in your lathe so you can machine while you machine while you make shockingly bad repairs to your lathe!"
Something really innovative and beautiful....the question? Will it resist or not?
legend has it the gear broke again before this video was edited
😅😅😅😅
😂😂😂😂
Esos engranes no durarían mucho
Did he repair that with aluminium?
Bottom clearance left the chat🙄
i think easyer to weld the screws than melting
They used aluminum to repair a steel gear???? The aluminum isn't going to hold up for very long.
Aluminum replacement teeth ? How long is this fix going to last?
Got his welding certificate on UA-cam shorts.
This channel is well known for BAD welding practices
😅
😂
