  • Syria has disappeared from the headlines - but what is it like for some Syrians now?
Over the last 11 years, people in #Syria endured severe losses. Scores of them were displaced, and many lost family members, their homes and livelihoods.
I travelled there with the World Food Programme, an organization with a neutral approach that focuses on the humanitarian emergency in that country.
While I was there, I met Ghufran - a woman who has lost so much, but her irrepressible spirit is undeniable AND she is a former Taekwondo champion - she told me she dreamed of competing at the Olympics one day! 🥋💥

After having a bad day, I came across this video.... must have been a sign to just keep going, because my mother has instilled in me that me that very same saying, "this, too, shall pass" Ghufran's strength is a true blessing. I wish her and her boys well :)

Absolutely. My mom instilled that very saying to me, constantly, growing up - and still does. And we just so happen to be of Lebanese & Syrian descent.

Thank you George, I am an Armenian, born and raised in Aleppo, but have been residing in Toronto over 19 years. It saddens me to see the state of Aleppo but the resiliency of the people makes me proud and gives me hope.

We were in Yerevan with a friend in 2021, and the only guy we found who didn't speak any russian at all was a bartender in an irish-themed pub, who also turned out to have been born and raised in Aleppo, he left for the UK when the shennanigans started, i think. We had a splendid time (and a lot of free drinks), kudos to all Armenians out there.

    Great video, George.
It's not frequently that we see Canadian media giving voice to the unvoiced.

Destruction is vivid. Can not imagine what the residents have to live through. Good they have a safety food chain incoming❤️🫂
