i did one, after fluval keep rising the price up. I use an old large plastic box with a large cap, drill many holes of the side to suck water in . filled the box with foam, carbon etc, and the close the lid, drill a top, put a pump, and immerse both under water, works a magic. it is internal pump, but i have plenty of space. and it save me £££ and i do not break the easy broken ceramic shaft and it is easy to change the filters.

Out of mind? Sponge filter does the same job. Add bio balls instead of stones. Good luck
