- Despite not getting through the Blind Auditions on "The Voice of the Philippines," Nicole Floirendo, a 20-year-old fresh graduate from Cagayan de Oro, fulfilled her dream duet with her idol Lea Salonga, who sits as one of the four coaches on the hit reality talent search.

@@inakilopez1297 hi there, great point. However, as much as Rachelle Anne Go and Eva Noblezada are doing great on their own career in Broadway, they don't make up the whole of the Philippine classical arts community.
For one thing, Rachelle Anne Go started her career on mainstream television, and later extended to Boradway. However, the attention was already on her.
Second, this comment was written 5 years ago, so I haven't heard of Eva Noblezada then.
However,I would probably never have heard of her if she didn't start her career by performing for one of the biggest musicals in history.
This cements the irony that as a theater performer in the Philippines, your work would only be acknowledged if you started out big internationally, or if you have gained recognition in the mainstream media.
And, this leaves the question as to what happens to the rest of the classical arts community that chose to stay here in the Philippines?
this is an example of singing within your capabilities...Nicole sounded forced and generic singing 'Titanium' but she was really incredible singing 'On My Own', her voice is actually more tailored to musical theater than mainstream pop...I hope she realizes this and pursues opportunities that her voice can definitely own

she did get to sing with lea! that's already an accomplishment. hope to see her do more theater in the future :)
Lea has really a brilliant ear,she immediately asked what is Her singing background since the girl has a voice but the song did not seem to fit in her range. Lea realized it easily.

Hate to break it to you but the staff advise the coaches beforehand on what to ask the singers after their performances lol
They may be brief or scripted but the script can't control the flow of the show...so most probably hahahaha hindi pa rin ganun ka scripted...tsaka known na perfect pitch si Lea marami na kapwa artist niya nagsabi niya...which means magaling talaga siya kumilatis ng boses...she's been there since she was 9, her first show, Annie...so magaling talaga siya...alam niya na may boses, wrong song choice lanh
That rendition of on my own was special, man! And I loved how Lea was so supportive, right up to the end..."finish the song!". It reminded me of when I met Lea when I was 5 and how nice she was

Girl should've auditioned with On My Own, and Lea would've for sure pressed that button! She sang it great and I could really feel the emotion in how she sang it. I was living my dream through her when Lea went up on stage did the duet with her and hugged her, and we just happen to have the same name!! I hope the best for this girl!

Let me say this.I know you're hurt because none of the judges turned around but what you fail to realize is that you made one of the judges stand up and join you on stage for a duet and I have never seen that from any of judges from any singing contest in the entire world.Oh plus the judge that stood up happens to be your idol and the singer that you most look up to and dream of having a duet.Don't cry.U R great, use this as a learning experience. I dream of watching you perform on stage one day

I really love that song it keeps me stress free especially when I'm studying. Too bad she didn't get in, I wish she audition to the voice again or to the Asians got talent she really has a potential like the judges said. I hope I see her someday on Broadway. :)

Perfect example why the song the you pick on auditions are important, cuz the first song was good but on my own just sounded so amazing (if she had picked on my own for sure Lea would turn or even all of them)
Hey, who else noticed that Lea helped her finish the song... and at the very end, Lea sang harmony, not the melody. AMAZING.

she has very slight pitch problems but a lovely tone. With a little training and a better song choice she could've gotten a chair turn

On My Own is one of my favorite songs at the moment, especially after watching Les Miserables, and I think Nicole sang it very nicely. Her voice is really fit for that song, but I'm sad she didn't get in :( I wish her luck and hope she'll try to audition again!

we should also give credit to the voice band, amazing arrangement..
most of the time the judges can't hear the good voice with in... she did great on the first song you can tell she had a very good voice....
I think Nicole tried too hard on her first song and had trouble with some of her higher notes (she couldn't maintain them very well an sounded a bit ' scratchy'). It was when she dropped her register she did much better

the obvious question is why didn't she sing that "second song?" it was obvious that she had that song downpat and besides she said she had some kind of experience with the "theatre" stuff!

Kung mapapansin niyo mula season 1 hanggang ngayon ( adult and kids edition) , maraming artist na di nalilingunan because of wrong song choice...Kaya maraming nagtatanong ng ganyan like you...Well the truth is not all the time ay iyong artist ang pumipili ng song nila sa blind audition...There are cases na ung staff ng the voice ph ang pumipili ng song para sa artist and obviously, this was one of those....

If I went to the broadway production of les miserables and heard that at the beginning of the second act, I would be very satisfied.

I really hope she tries again for the next season, when she drops her voice she has much better control. Nicole just had trouble with her high end, she couldn't control the pitch.
