They should of had Deku stick with Midnight in case he ever lost control and thus she could have built a motherly bond with Deku or something similar to that. I would of said it could be the ship but it wouldn't really make sense since deku is trying to not get close to anyone so it would be more difficult to get close to her in a romantic way rather than them having a parental bond that just built it self over time from them just being close to each other and Midnight learning more about Deku overtime.
