I've played a Kwain deck for quite some time, with Approach of the Second Sun as the primary win condition. I've never picked up that all of those untap cantrips are a huge effect, even more so than draw X spells. Great deck tech!
@@h.g.5509 my sympathies. I've bounced around 3 different cities across the country in the past year and a half. Trying to play games with people or keep up with old playgroups is getting impossible.

@@demrandom I would agree that if you started not knowing what the 2nd card was, then keep drawing off the top. No one has time for 16 shuffles. But if you have scryed the top 2 cards, then you better shuffle first and then start drawing randomly.

I just put together a Kwain deck myself and to say this is quite different from what I have. Mine is more in the way of "draw a boatload of cards and win without hurting anyone" along with finding win conditions that don't require fighting anyone. Although, I did enjoy this tactic too, as it's easily much cheaper than the version I'm running.
How about anytime a player draws a card an opponent loses life, and anytime you draw a card an opponent loses life, anytime you discard a card an opponent loses life. Then just draw your whole library, you do not get hurt, but they die
I was playing online with some people, and I just lost to this deck. It was really fun to play against, because it isn't mean control. It is almost like a grouphug, until you politic one player into killing the others, then locking the last, creature-based player out in the 1 vs 1 with Wizard Spellbook + Dismiss into Dream + Energy Arc. The game was before I watched the video, and I saw it work first hand!
Having a lot of fun playing a deck that is pretty similar. I just added the apporach of the second sun and a couple other win cards where you just draw yourself to win
I made kwain as a draw out deck but couldn't find the right defenses and then someone makes the recommendation for Kawin and Mitch my man!!! You always come through! Love your deck techs and everything you do. Keep up the hard work brother cannot wait to see what you ha e next! Maybe some more close quarters? :3
Please make deck tech videos with commander decks with $100 budget! In my community we have been doing this and it’s growing rapidly! My community would love to see you make a video! Thanks!
spellslinger-y Kwain looks fun. I'm actually building an Echo and the Bunnymen themed deck with Kwain at the helm (and Vizzerdrix, of course. and that's the extent of bunnies in UW...). the deck plays into the card draw synergy rather than untap effects. regardless, it's good to see what kind of brews people come up with for Kwain!
Unwind is such an underrated counter. Sure, you have to keep three mana up to play it, but if you untap 3 regular lands with it, it's free, and if you untap dual lands, it's a counterspell that nets you 3 mana
Honestly, since I got into commander about a year ago, Kwain has become my favorite commander. All my friends hate him though, since drawing everyone cards elevates the power of the match rapidly. 😂
Thought Kwain would be a good commander to bring to FNM. Built a nice group hug deck with no win cons that I could bring to any table without feeling over or underpowered. I think I tapped him 5 times total in 5 games. Got hated out instantly it was bizarre lol I regretted not bringing something oppressive like Meren or something
I made a group hug & flying tribal Kwain deck, but my playgroup hated it since games dragged out forever since everybody free into all their removal. Kwain is fun to pilot though with untap effects when you can make everybody draw cards and play the game and hit lands.
I have a friend who was new to the format, and... their first deck they built was Kozilek, Butcher of Truth. Their second was kawain. I kinda hate playing against the Kawain deck more then the deck filled to the brim with big idiots with Anhilator and Void Winnower. (I should also note that we literally were playing off Tabletop sim so they were just looking up cards on scryfall and putting in whatever they could to these decks, so budget wasn't a thing? It was amazing the sort of things my friend would and would not find. still, a lot of my experience with the JOYS of Hullbreacher+windfall came from this friend's deck.)
Carrots are not good for rabbits and they don't really eat carrots much in the wild. They're OK in small amounts as an occasional treat at most. Just as an FYI. (pegasi is the plural of Pegasus BTW)
I built my kwain deck shortly after he was released went with a mass amount of group hug draw but wanted to punish with sphinx's tuteledge and grind stone
Hey Mitch would do you think some of the Dean's of strikshaven would be redeem able commander's if used as a partner with commander with it's other side. Ruling would be each halve behaves as if it is not a mdf so you can try to cheat past commander tax. I feel like the study counter on could be interesting, while I might build on around the Izzit/prismari Dean
For a $10-15 upgrade, would it be worth running a win con like triskaidekaphile, Test of Endurance, Approach of the second sun, Jace, Wielder of Mysteries or Thrassa’s Oracle?
This is the one deck I was hoppy to see. Every bunny will binky when they see this. A #1 fluffle party deck. Thats right I did the puns Morher-Fluffer.🐰
Is anyone else as disappointed as I am? I saw the title and thought Mitch was giving us a Circle of Protection deck....Now, I just have sadness. Cool deck concept though, but would be better with the CoPs!
I feel like most of the time your opponents are just going to immediately assume you're a combo deck and won't cooperate with you that much. Realistically, once they see you untapping Kwain and drawing multiple cards they're going to start gunning for you because A: you're durdling, and B: it's really suspicious lmao.
I’m gonna be honest, I’m struggling to see how this deck wins. I get there’s mass card draw and life gain going on with maybe some commander damage in between but unless I missed it there’s no real win condition for this. Could someone please help me with this?
So I'm early to the party. Everone coming in: do you think AP/IB classes are actually worth it? They don't do shit in the real world, and they MIGHT help you get accepted to your dream college, but ultimately it's paying testing fees for something that just takes up time and mental capacity
$96 for an AP test can be worth 9 college credit hours which is $1000 at a community college, $20K at an expensive private school. Is a 20,000% ROI worth it?
