+Ho Stevie! Thank you. I was watching the surfers and some of them were headed directly for the pier. I thought that they were going to get worked, but they always managed to turn at the last minute. If I were into surfing, it looks like a great spot.
+Chasn The Wind Dan, I met Ken at the gun shop some time back while I was working on the owners quadcopter. Ken expressed an interest in flying and now he's directional flying quit well; we've had several fun days flying. If you get up this way the three of us will have some fun with these flying machines. :)
You freaked me out flying over water like that, you are a brave guy. Had me glued too the screen for 8 minutes with excellent music too match. well done and thanks for getting up early too give us this treat
Your videos are like magic, I get to see what angels see. I just want to pack up my bags and go to Cali every time I see your videos. Don't ever stop what you are doing, It's so inspiring ...God Bless =) Solidarity, my friend ...Solidarity to everyone in this hobby.
+INTELMAXELL That you; I really mean that. To be truthful, I am scared everytime I fly over the water and canyons for fear of losing my quad as I would not financially be able to replace it. However, if you do not do things that scare you and play it safe all the time, you will miss out on a lot. I mainly do these videos for me as an outlet to do things I have never done before and the bonus is I get to share them with you and others. I truly am happy that you like what I am doing. Thank you for the kind words.
I have been scared lately and I have been playing it too safe. I almost lost my X380 and since then I almost gave up on the hobby. But something changed and I couldn't do it. I took a chance and bought the Phantom Standard. It is your videos that are starting the fire in me to fly in total freedom without being scared. So, I want to say Thank You to you. Wish me luck because I too use this as an outlet. It helps me with finding my inner peace. =)
You have the right attitude and will do well. This is a wonderful hobby and if you make the videos that make you happy, that scare you sometimes, then you will find the joy in it. The Phantom series are great quadcopters and wonderful video platforms.
I suppose that you are right Dave. Lately, I have really gotten into filming with my Solo. I am sure that I will also still make the occasional non gps quad video here and there.
Brian, thanks so much for commenting. I think that shot of the sun coming through the pier is the best part of the video. It was totally unplanned and I got the idea right after I circled the Restruant at the end of the pier. Cheers...
I think about your getting up at three, waiting in the dark on a cold windy morning in your Jeep waiting for the sun to rise. I think of the nice people you met; of the dedicated surfers, the wild life, the experience and it's all on video. Not often we have a memory like this captured in time with such a well composed setting, awesome Dan, just awesome!
+Wobble Copter Thank you Pat. It was exactly like you describe along with apprehension of whether I would be able to fly if the wind did not settle down and I was also very nervous about flying so far out over the ocean. As you know it only takes one motor to fail, one electronic speed controller to burn out, or just something wacky to happen and then no more quadcopter. When the flight is over, I am always happy, thankful that I got it back, proud that I faced those fears and did the flight anyway and hopeful that the footage is good enough to share with others. Most people do not realize the dedication you have to have to get these videos and a willingness to lose it all in the process.
+Chasn The Wind I think we may share yet another trait; if a person wants to accomplish something might as well do it right. It seems that getting something truly worth while involves dedication, going the extra mile and sometimes risks. I'll see you on the next...extra mile Dan.
This pier was built in 1888 as seen in this video, as it turns out my Grandmother, mom's mom was born in 1888. Her husband was born in 1875 when Grant was president, the year before the little big horn, James Butler Hickok was still alive. My Grandfather was almost fifty when my mother was born, I was her last child and also the last grandchild. It just goes to show that when we see dates like this or think of American history it really wasn't as long ago as we imagine it. Thanks again for the great videos, looking forward to your next project!
+Wobble Copter Wow, that is quite something when you put it in context. You are right, in the grand scheme of time, the late 1800's were not that long ago. I was reading about the oldest person living today. She was born in 1899 and has seen everything that most of us read about in the history books. She loves here bacon in the morning and is still somewhat active.
+Chasn The Wind ....Oh, never eat bacon, it'll kill ya, haha. Just perfect, 114 years old, loves her bacon and still scoots around; it doesn't get much better than that.
+SlayerX Purington Thank you. That was a scary flight for me given the wind gusts and naturally being several thousand feet out over the ocean. Thats when you just trust in the equipment, your skills and hope that everything goes right.
There's one thing I keep forgetting to mention; when you show a photo of the past of your subject or mention a fact or it's history in any way it's fantastic. That leap into the future is great. One could make a thing out of finding old photos and then go to the same location and put it on video with a quad offering even more perspective. Any way I wanted to note it's great what you do in every respect but offering an older photo or a tid bit of information if very cool, the artistic touch!
To this day this is my favorite one you did. I miss you buddy you have been too quiet. I too have writers block maybe you can inspire me with your magic again. -- INTELMAXEL
Hey Buddy, thank you for the kind words. I have been building an office in my back yard for the past four months and have spent every weekend and about an hour a night during the week working on it. I have an aggressive timeline to get it completed and had to put drone videos aside temporarily. I am just about done and intend to get back out flying and posting videos. I appreciate you checking in, it really means allot.
Hi William, I used to worry about flying over water and have done it so much that it does not bother me anymore. I know there is a possibility of my drone going in the drink and that would be an expensive incident, but its necessary to get the video I sometimes need. Thanks for the feedback my friend.
+JCFlippen I have also been thinking about setting the GoPro to medium. For some reason, its only the left leg that gets into my video and then just the last inch or so of it. I will definately do something about it.
+Chasn The Wind The reason the left leg gets into the shot is that is the side the camera lens is on, so when you have to work hard against the wind the leg comes more into play. You can really see it when you start back and the wind changes. Med will eliminate that and I feel greatly improve the video. Very nicely done.
That was so fantastic on so many levels I can't even say anything but wow. You're getting so good at capturing everything to be seen, love it all, the surfers, the waves, the sunrise, the pier and buildings, just awesome. Thanks for the upload my friend. BTW, I have the single thumbs down figure out...it can't be anything other than a bad case of penis envy.
+Wobble Copter Thank you Pat. This was the one location that I really almost did not fly given the wind gusts. Its not easy to see wind on the video, but I was nervous about it. Then I got a group of people around me who were excited to see the Solo fly and then the peer pressure talked me into it. I am glad that I made the flight as the video came out pretty good.
super nice - did you do anything extra to isolate that thick hdmi cable? - I bought the thin aftermarket ribbon cable but haven't had time to install it yet
Also anytime I rotate the drone left or right, it seems like the camera is slightly tilted making one side higher than the other. Guessing a gimbal issue?
Chasn The Wind well I would get another gimbal but they are like $100 now and the girlfriend would go crazy if I dropped $100 more on the drone lol. The footage is great, just a little shaky but not noticeable unless you look for it, it's just the turning of the drone left to right that makes the shot uneven. Wish there was a way to fix it without buying a new one
+Dave Review I used a polarizer filter as part of a three filter pack that I purchased from B&H photo for my gopro. Here is the link in case you are interested. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1115791-REG/polar_pro_p3001_frame_2_0_fpv_quadcopter_filter.html
+Chasn The Wind Thanks Dan. 2 Neutral Density Filters there. Just investigating for use on planned cheap FPV/ recording setup on toy micro quad platform. I'm looking to have a lightweight toy that can go 1/2 to 1 kilometer or so :) The N.D. filters are said to cut the jello and shaky look.
Chasn The Wind Just something like carbon or polycarbonate frame and JJ1000 FCB with YiZhan radio and booster. Probably 808 #16 camera for FPV plus recording. I might just go without recording ability using a tiny cam. I have a Tarantula on the way, but I really want small though and not dangerous. Would like to fly long range from my balcony.
That sounds nice Dave. I have not flown my Tarantula in quite some time. I think that I will dust it off and fly it this weekend. Its such a really nice quad to fly.
+Bruno Ferreiro No, the stock antenna will only get you out about 1,000 feed in an area that has a lot of wifi. I am using the excellent FPVLR antenna and then I bought the amplifiers which give me a range of over three miles.
That was phenomenal...best ever!
Thank you so much.
Awesome flight. Amazing footage!
Thank you Sir. BTW, I like the new channel name.
Very cool, I need to surf there sometime!
+Ho Stevie! Thank you. I was watching the surfers and some of them were headed directly for the pier. I thought that they were going to get worked, but they always managed to turn at the last minute. If I were into surfing, it looks like a great spot.
Incredible video Chasn.. just incredible.. Thank You..
+Ken Knighten Thank you for the encouragement, I appreciate it. I am really happy that you liked the video.
+Chasn The Wind Dan, I met Ken at the gun shop some time back while I was working on the owners quadcopter. Ken expressed an interest in flying and now he's directional flying quit well; we've had several fun days flying. I would like that very much Pat.
fantastic vid ,lovely work...
+Dji Leon Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.

Majestic videos, Dan. You're all about cinematography now
I suppose that you are right Dave. Lately, I have really gotten into filming with my Solo. I am sure that I will also still make the occasional non gps quad video here and there.
+Chasn The Wind Do you still have the Tarantula x6 ? hahaha
I certainly do, along with about twenty or more other quads that I hardly ever fly anymore :)
Chasn The Wind You must have a big man cave hahaaahaa :)~
I have a closet stuffed to the top with quadcopter boxes and my wife telling me to get rid of them :)
@2:30 the sunlight coming through under the pier...amazing. Greetings from a new Solo owner.
Brian, thanks so much for commenting. I think that shot of the sun coming through the pier is the best part of the video. It was totally unplanned and I got the idea right after I circled the Restruant at the end of the pier. Cheers...
Very enjoyable video looks like a great place to have a cold beer cheers
+Aussie Quad Thank you, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Its a great place to have several beers. Cheers...

Always did love seeing the sunrise over the ocean, nice flight, great video once again my friend :)
thats awesome
+repinkc816reviews I am glad that you liked it. Thank you for the feedback.
Looking good, Nice video!!
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.

@@Dabobeans Watched it yesterday, teared up after 8 years, and it's still my favorite. We've come a long way in flying drones. Hope you're doing well.
I look forward to shooting mine footage. You're lucky you did not loose it in the water. I have a waterproof drone for that.
Hi William, I used to worry about flying over water and have done it so much that it does not bother me anymore. I know there is a possibility of my drone going in the drink and that would be an expensive incident, but its necessary to get the video I sometimes need. Thanks for the feedback my friend.
Loved the location. Would it be worth setting GoPro to medium fov to avoid getting Solo legs in shot?
+JCFlippen I have also been thinking about setting the GoPro to medium. For some reason, its only the left leg that gets into my video and then just the last inch or so of it. I will definately do something about it.

Scott, I have been thinking the same thing as I am tired of the legs being in the video. I am completely in agreement with you.
So Chasn have you switched from Yuneec to 3DR Solo for good? Was it because of the iPad vs ST10? Thanks
That was so fantastic on so many levels I can't even say anything but wow. You're getting so good at capturing everything to be seen, love it all, the surfers, the waves, the sunrise, the pier and buildings, just awesome. Thanks for the upload my friend.

super nice - did you do anything extra to isolate that thick hdmi cable? - I bought the thin aftermarket ribbon cable but haven't had time to install it yet
+korling99 No, its the stock setup. I have heard of a thin aftermarket ribbon cable mod, but so far, I am not having issues.
How did you get the footage so smooth? Any mods?
Also anytime I rotate the drone left or right, it seems like the camera is slightly tilted making one side higher than the other. Guessing a gimbal issue?
Hi Josh, just using the GoPro gimbal and GoPro Hero 4 Black. Nothing else.
Yes, that is a gimbal error. I actually had the same error on my first 3DR Solo and they replaced the gimbal which fixed the issue.
Hey Dan,
Are you using any filters on the camera - Neutral Density Filters or anything?
+Dave Review I used a polarizer filter as part of a three filter pack that I purchased from B&H photo for my gopro. Here is the link in case you are interested.

The N.D. filters are said to cut the jello and shaky look.
Do you have a particular platform in mind?
Chasn The Wind
Just something like carbon or polycarbonate frame and JJ1000 FCB with YiZhan radio and booster. Probably 808 #16 camera for FPV plus recording.
