to everyone bitching about flash being meaningless and unoriginal: shut up. first off, tattoos don't NEED to have meaning. obviously, if they do that's great, but it's also cool if you get a tattoo because you think its pretty or you just like the style of it or you're trying to collect from different artists. in its simplest form, a tattoo is just a piece of art that you keep on your skin, so what's wrong with just wanting a pretty one that you picked off a wall? second, flash doesn't necessarily mean 'meaningless' anyway, since i'm sure there are plenty of people who are already looking for those types of designs for personal reasons. seeing flash art of a design could just solidify that meaning for you. finally, damn. their flash is fucking amazing. definitely want to get something done by them.
Thanks really thank you. Flash not original? In the shop I hang out at, the flash is the most beautiful and coolest images I have seen. They really are similar to my style of art.
100% agree. I live in Ontario, Canada and there is a shop in my city called Trophy Tattoo and they are like this. Shop is completely filled with all of their own hand-painted flash. The imagery is iconic and they have a mix of original flash and designs that are from the 1920s, 30s, 40s,50s, but you wouldn't be able to pick out which ones are the ones that they designed because its all in the same timeless design language and using a lot of the same iconography.
*clears throat* Literally every image on the internet shows up on Google images. And every artist has Instagram so yeah legit any type of picture of anything you want will be on Google images including your own tattoos after about 20 minutes of leaving the shop. So chill you're not special for having roses or whatever
A Ghost. the difference is that traditional tattoos are historic, and artists are keeping them alive by recreating them with their own twist. yes, they’ll be online, but there’s plenty of people with the same theme and that’s the point of traditional. every one gets tattoos for their own reasons so in the end who gives a shit anyways
To all the haters this is a real tattoo shop this is what it’s about not some artsy fucking place charge you a hundred for a consultation and no designs on the wall ther studios not tattoo shops this is the way tattoos should look as far as I’m concerned all these guys doing stuff that’s not traditional you think your custom piece don’t get tattooed google you better not let know one take a picture of your tattoo because someone will copy it
@Dave Bull I go into the shop knowing the subject matter that I want, and the placement. Then find the one that jumps off the wall at me when I see it and get that. plus I listen to the input of the artist because ultimately I am there because they are the expert and I am not. You can go yo your mechanic and ask them to put a lawnmower engine in your car. you can even bring the engine. Some might do it. A good one won't. And if you're stubborn you'll find someone who wants the money enough that they'll do it. I'd rather go to the guy that would turn down the money because they won't associate themselves with a piece they don't 100% think is going to be kickass. I want to leave the shop with something that I want, and love and will continue to love. and a good way to get that is to listen to the advice of the artists when they say "honestly dude, this one would fit the placement and work a lot better and look badass." or you can find a guy who will give you image result 67 from page 3 of google search results "inspirational tattoos for men". But you don't have to assign meaning to the tattoos that are up on the wall in a traditional shop. that iconography has a TRADITION of meaning going back over 100 years. And that is just my humble opinion.
There designs are pure. And so god damn perfect it’s sickening... and it’s been done a 1000 times differently..... redrawn and changed from artist to artist.... these girls want the exact same tacky little symbol or design that was weak to begin with
Huge difference between a cheese ball Infiniti symbol with “love” in the line & a tattoo artists take on classic tattoo designs that were made with the process of tattooing in mind.
Infinity symbols are tacky Dragons are forever my g. Everyone thinks their original but nothing is totally original traditional and lots of black and grey stuff looks so good bc we’ve got like 80 years of data. That watercolor sunset tattoo is going to look weird asf in 10 years
he's comparing common tattoos that girls get like roman numerals or a scale, versus traditional tattoos that have always been around and always will be
I feel like the tattoo “trend” is kind of dying out a bit. I waited to get heavily tattooed until I was 30, because I wanted to make sure I was actually about that life. I’m so fucking glad I did because the older I got the more I realized that traditional tattooing was the only way. I’m on my way to get my 27th tattoo in 5 years this afternoon. And I’m thrilled.
you're not giving constructive criticism. Tattoo age is for people who appreciate tattoo's. Comments should be about the content of the video itself not the subject matter. It's like when a metalhead criticizes pop. apples and oranges.
Boltz is probably talking about a spread out across the chest owl. Get a eagle on the chest instead. A perched owl can go anywhere really. I have an eagle tattoo btw hahaha.
For some reason even my brain can't comprehend, someone flagged this as spam. What you just said is basically what I would've hoped to hear from these dudes. Quality over originality makes sense the way you explain it. I know they're from NY and apparently people are very straight forward, their almost but not quite rude. Sort of like me lol Maybe it has something to do with the way they explain things?
Whats people opinion on having multiple styles of tattoos eg the classic American style tattoos and then the Japanese styles on another part of the body. Does that normally look strange or what? Cheers for any input
different styles are okay, as long as they are done well. tattoos are for you anyway, doesn't matter what other people think. I have different styles, but all black and gray.
LoneWanderer360 yeah man I get what you mean, I'm just feeling abit stuck between getting lot's of individual tattoo's like the classic style or getting a few large pieces
instead of getting stuck on specific images, figure out an overall theme and see if your artist can work all your ideas into one piece. this is where due diligence in selecting an artist is really important.
+Asap Linehan I think those two particular styles would be OK on the same person if they are linked by clean lines and bold colour. Some styles wouldn't sit so well together - say classic traditional and abstract watercolour.
Most shops buy flash. Or trade it.... these guys have and entire shop covered in 100 percent original paintings.... the scale they’ve done it on is crazy.... like thousands and thousands of hours went into that... 99 percent of shops do not
Why anyone would choose to have some random piece of flash they picked out of a book permanently inked onto their body is beyond me. Be original. Be an individual! *Gets a Salvador Dali piece reproduced exactly on their arm. Originality, people!
Don't take my reply as a hate reply. But think about it this way.. people love old classic cars instead of getting the newer model cars. Same with tattoos these kinda style tattoos are the one traditional american tattoos. I know you know this and that this is your opinion but to some these tattoos are the "classic cars" of their category. But i do love other styles like realism! Love that also!! Nikko Hurtado is the best in colored portraits :)
RedRose tattoo...Schiedam holland you will find the same kind of guy and those pretty much the same drawings too..he would fit right in there with those other guys word
i appreciate these guys art and skills, its definitely its own style and the colors are beautifully done, but i feel when they are saying they have to stop someone from getting a custom tattoo, its really because thats not their strong point and the tattoo will only come out bad not so much because its not a good tattoo idea, but because of their inability to properly execute it...so they want to stick with the style and lines they know they are capable of doing...
read what I wrote again. you really didn't give any counterarguments. criticism is ok, but it should be about the "content of the video itself, not the subject matter. he said the most "unique" tattoos are the one that sucks the most, the one youve seen lots of times are the ones that rock, dont know if this will help your opinion about it, but do you study art or do art yourself in anyway? as ive been drawing and painting for alot of years i can only give this guy right in some sort.
Jacob Meth I've got my BFA and had seriously pursued being an artist since I was in high school, so you could reasonably say I've been an artist for about 15 years now. 'Officially' for almost 7, if you're only counting from when I got my BFA. I have been making my living being an artist since the age of 18, before I'd even come close to finishing my BFA. I also have four tattoos, all of which I designed myself alongside my various tattoo artists (seeing as skin is one of the few mediums I've never worked with), and plans for more. Anecdotal - I get regular compliments on my tattoos, including from artists from a variety of disciplines. In my opinion, the ones which come out of the flash? Or which follow cultural and societal themes so they're 'common'? They can be very nice, definitely, but that is as dependent on placement, skill of design, and execution as any more unique or personal piece.
zippadeedooday as i said in some sort i give this guy right, cause now when your expressing what you meant befor in a deeper way i understand what your meaning. (: myself designed my own tattoo and the one im getting next month and only heard postiv exponse But They still got a classic/oldschool look but still being original.. atm i only got kingboo from nintendo64 drawn myself free handend without looking at a google picture while drawing it. As a music producer I imagine this being the equivalent of horrible radio music. Just bland and generic, but mostly insulting for those who actually try hard to create proper content.
The educational stuff they talk about is brilliant. "Sometimes you have to save a client from themselves." Very very very true.

Those paintings at the end are completely awesome. I would love to buy one and put it up on the wall. What a talent.
I really don't get why I like this style so much. The drawings them self seem so simple, but the use of color and space makes them look so good!
its kind of the pinnacle of the medium imo. It is pretty much the only style of tattooing that holds up over time on skin.
"i'd never get a tattoo off the wall!" -brings in a picture found on google images-
hahahaha fucking nailed it
*clears throat*

I love this series so much, tattoo culture has always been very deeply rooted to me. Flash tattoos are the heart of tattooing. ✨💫
''Every teenage girl comes in to get that tattoo'' and the scene before ''the tattoo you've seen a thousand times is gonna be good its got strength''

C'mon Bert that's the Integrity band logo! Iconic!

He also wears a vintage Blood Axis shirt very well.
The Cholo flash and the Integrity logo were the best tattoos.
Swallow is an OG from Jimmy Ho days
I swear flash is in every UK tattoo shop I've been in

The shop I went to draws his own flash. It specializes in custom flash tattoos
He said specifically in NYC.
Im detecting a hint of Valerie Vargas on the walls?

you couldnt be more wrong
Maybe it does have something to do with the way they explain. Artists often have difficulty explaining how or what they do to people.
Actually that the tattoo you want sucks and you should just get one that everyone else has

do these guys design the pictures on ed hardy shirts? they look the same...
I really do not like his tattoo style. Good thing we have all different tastes:)
These guys have great work but their attitude and professionalism is terrible. Since the first video they have cracked jokes about ruining tattoos, talking customers out of the design they came to get and the flash on the walls had misspelled words. I mean...seriously???
These guys are total dicks and I'd never get tattooed by them.
disagree, be individual, choose and work with the artist, sorry but, come up with your own be original.
Annae Williams flash has become more original, how many people want “ unique things “ but it all looks the fucking same? 1:38 said he wants to copy people...last tattoo age was actually good. this one sucks n all his work looks like ed hardy which is stupid
This one was entirely boring. And then the fucking music awful
I would not get a tattoo from that place
I hate that cartoonish looking tattoo crap. Looks like stuff I would have drawn in a notebook in high school during class.
maybe i just don't get tattoo's but none of these tattoo's seem remotely impressive
