I would say that him still fighting as hard as he was, even with that fatal wound of his potentially made Shiggy actually realize just how dangerous the demons are especially since it was stated to them that Akaza was one of the strongest demons, not the strongest demon. So Shiggy might've thought about that and realized that if there are demons more powerful than Akaza, which there are, he might've realized they would be too strong and dangerous to try and become allies with them and decided to try and save Deku/Rengoku to get all the help possible to defeat the demons. Just a theory though.
If you think of it, considering how old this variant of Deku woul be, Akaza would still be alive if Shiggy went to find him before Tanjiro kills him, though, I'm sure Akaza would kill Shiggy in an instant due to crappy Reaction speed compared to Demons.
