Here is a video idea: take each part of the Walmart board and assemble it on normal setups, to see what really is problematic, my guess is mostly the trucks.

I’ve used just the decks before as backups in case my “higher end” boards would break or just loose pop. The decks aren’t bad at all. It’s the trucks wheels and bearings on those boards you gotta be cautious about. Plastic wheels are crazy slick especially on blacktop. And like he mentioned the plastic trucks and low end bearings. MAJOR RED FLAGS🚩🚩🚩
I just watched your recap with your son's skating progress. The world would be a much better place with more awesome Dad's like you, brother. I got steamy eyed watching being a Dad of three. Just amazing. Your son is lucky to have you!
As a Walmart employee the reason for the plastic on the wheels is to keep children/adults from riding the board in the store and possibly injuring themselves or others. It's an insurance/liability issue.
For beginners A good skateboard brand to get is “speed demons” (I think that’s what they’re called) you can find them at target for only $30 they have metal trucks and they are pretty strong!!
For sure - I've broken pro boards and trucks in the past. Never forget the day I learned impossibles and broke my 5 day old Sean Sheffey board. My advice - and something I've done to find out if young kids are going to stick with skating - get a cheapish complete and put something like enuff trucks on it with OJ keyframe 87a wheels and some fracture bearings. Brings the cost of an OK/safe setup down. Young kids don't need Indys on a pro board to get into skating.
I just started learning on a $20 Walmart board and it has been so frustrating. No matter how much I push I can't roll for more than like 5 seconds before it just stops. It's kinda validating that it might be the boards fault and not just me.
Gotta give you props on making this video in a positive way, Andy. Excellent job. As a shop owner I’ve gotta admit SOME department store boards have gotten better in recent years. I try to avoid Walmart if I can but when I do get sucked in I check out the skateboards and I’ve definitely noticed inconsistencies in quality but you covered most of the major stuff. The one big issue that I run into a lot is that some of the bargain boards don’t follow standard sizing so when a kid comes in and wants to replace a worn out board sometimes their trucks won’t fit. Another problem is that because Walmart demands to be able to sell at a certain price point while maximizing their margins companies are forced to cut corners in places that really aren’t always safe. Years ago a board came through my shop that had urethane tires packed with scraps of urethane and when the skater bombed a hill on them they heated up enough to soften and stretch. He squished it back in place but ended up blowing them out fully soon after. I try to keep old trucks and wheels around the shop so I can get kids off of dangerous equipment whenever possible but usually by the time they figure out skate shops exist they’re already taking it pretty seriously.

Finally someone does an accurate review on Walmart boards. Please have Ryden review both porch so we can see how they work with someone of the proper weight Most people never mention that there is a weight limit. They also don't mention that Walmart has boards with metal trucks and wheels that actually roll. I feel the reason they have that thing on the wheel is because they don't want kids playing with them in the store and getting hurt. Look at all the UA-cam videos with adult taking it off and riding the boards around in the store.
obbymaster 2010 zumiez is a good shop but not one of the best , there’s so many local skate shops that are better and are in the community which help out locally.
I just started today I have experience with skim boarding on water so I’m kinda good but I was godly at skateboarding today can’t wait to see what I’m capable of
I noticed if you look at them from the side, they dont come "up" asmuch along the middle of the board. Idk if thats concave or not, but where the wheels are the bored sort of "pops" up along the middle goes back down before going back up at the end. Iv noticed legit boards from trusted brands proper skateboards have more of this bend in the middle.
I used to have an xgames board from Walmart or Kmart and it was the smoothest board I’ve ever rode. This was back late 90s-early00s but I miss that thing lol
Walmart boards just do not feel or perform with ease, that a decent higher quality board will, and a low quality feel and performing board can turn a person off from skating

Great info. Because of you and Ryden my 6 year old daughter wants to skate. Just bought her a new board and we've been out in the driveway getting it done. Thanks for all the great content.
A couple years ago I was going fast on a Walmart board and hit a pebble and went flying so a week later for xmas I got a revive board and loved it ever since
I live in Saratoga and my local skatepark is seasons skate shop in Albany. I was practicing tricks in my driveway and I went inside to get a drink so I laid my skateboard down. While I was inside my mom pulled in the driveway and she didn’t see my board and she ran over it 🥺. The skateboard was perfect with no damage! I couldn’t believe it! Best skate shop ever!
I can appreciate your concern. Not wanting to make anyone feel bad and apologizing if you did upset anyone. But you don't even have to be an experienced skater to know that Wal-Mart skateboards (and most boards from stores like that...sold CHEAP) are just not good. The quality is never good. And you're right..that can be dangerous. Especially if you're just learning. You could fall off one of those boards hurt yourself or even break a bone. And get so discouraged..you'd give up trying to skate. Not even knowing it's much smoother (and easier..in my opinion) to learn on a quality board. Obviously you could fall off a good board..but I'm referring to the quality between a Wal-Mart board and something "good". But I get it, kids get interested in something and by next week they forget about it. So most parents go the cheap route. Then pay more later on. All that being said...I remember my first skateboard being a Variflex skateboard lol! I had a couple like that. A "Speed Freak" and a "Ramp Rat 2"! I think I got them from Kmart?? The good old days. Lol
In nearly all cases department store, cheap boards don't roll because of the wheels on them, not the bearings. If you just replace the wheels with the cheapest actual skateboard wheels you can buy, you'll improve how well it rolls. When I first started skating I had a department store board that was basically a toy. I replaced the wheels with actual skateboard wheels (sold separately) from the same department store and it worked really well as my first board. I've bought many department store boards over the years and, if they don't roll, replacing the wheels nearly always solves the problem.
Okay so , my first bored I got was from walmart and I got a “long board” and it had 75A wheels I think and honestly it was pretty good, i was able to do a few tricks and it was medal not the bored. The board was pretty thick but it was really good to see if I wanted to skate!
To B honest the slow roller bearings although terrible performance for the purpose it’s made for. It did slow the Ollie landing to help build that muscle memory without the board just rolling right out from under me.the one I had rolled slowly enough to get the mental instability out of the equation. But different strokes for different folks!
I recommend buying used if possible. Used good equipment is usually better than super cheap new stuff. Skateboards, bikes, sports equipment, musical instruments, etc. Better quality means your more likely to enjoy the experience because your not fighting the equipment. You may have to perform tweaks, but then you just learn more about your equipment.
Walmart boards are pretty good if you replace the things on this list list: 1.deck 2.griptape 3.wheels and bearings 4.trucks 5.hardware also the washers
I was thinking, can you take the bearings out of those Walmart wheels and install a low priced set of real skateboard bearings. That would be the first best mod I can think of that wouldn't take a lot of know how and tools. If you can in the future, make a video about changing out the bearings on that board and wheel setup. And if people wanted to take it a step further after a month or so and the kid still has an interest and then change out the wheels by taking out the new bearings from the old wheels and installing them in the new wheels. A few steps forward and not incredibly expensive.
I’ve only got one decent board at Walmart and it was a penny board and it steers well feels nice to ride and in all is something I would rather ride than any other Walmart board.
I used to have a Walmart board it was a kryptonic and honestly... it wasn’t that bad. It was 25$ and it had metal/ aluminum trucks and really good wheels. It was very steady and solid. The only thing bad was the grip tape.
Even if the deck breaks, they still are relatively good. The trucks are loose and plastic tho. You just need to oil the bearings and loosen the bolts on the wheels and it’ll work fine
My first board was a Rage skateboard from big 5 in 1999. The board sucked and barely rolled but at least it had metal trucks. I remember it was such a huge difference when I got a real board. I landed my first kickflip within 2 days.
i had a Kryptonics cruiser in middle school, the thing was pretty rideable as a cruiser board. It had plastic trucks and they broke down over time but other than that it was honestly fine.
I've been skating for about 15 years. I took a walmart board to the skatepark a few years back because I had nothing else. The trucks were plastic and it wasnt a great board. It didnt even have real grip. But I could do tricks on it and had a bit of fun despite the fact that it was weak wood that rolls slow and had plastic trucks. I didnt have another board so i couldnt complain. it worked
I learnt on a Kmart board for thirty bucks it was good quality for thirty dollars but the trucks came loose often I learnt on it for a year with basket ball shoes I got a proper board and shoes like 6 to 7 months ago I got vans and an element board it helped me so much I’m on my way to my first board slide

One day I was so close to buying a Walmart board, but a worker told me not to. She said that she skates herself and that she wouldn’t recommend any boards from Walmart and go to a shop instead. My dad is going to get me a skateboard from a skate shop for my birthday and I’m hyped to start skating. My birthday is in 17 days (July 27) and I’m so exited. That worker is the reason that ima actually have something good to use Turning 12 :)
I started skateboarding about 3-4 weeks ago and I learned how to do an Ollie about the second week and I’ve just been trying to perfect my Ollie anyway yesterday I was attempting a rolling Ollie which I’ve been trying for about a week and I just completely ate the road and when I got up my board was trashed surprise surprise it’s a Walmart skateboard and I didn’t think it was a bad skateboard but after watching this vid I realized it was a bad skateboard so when my family gets some more money I’m definitely gonna buy a better skateboard
Just try to go to your local shop and get a mini logo complete. They cost about 80$ but that's significantly less than a normal complete and is a decent board. Learning on Walmart boards are 10x harder
Currently skating a “Kryptonic” board. I don’t have money to afford anything good, and probably for a while. It got me into skating, and until I get a good one, I’ll keep it. I replaced the bearings though, didn’t help much.

Most people never mention that there is a weight limit. They also don't mention that Walmart has boards with metal trucks and wheels that actually roll.
I feel the reason they have that thing on the wheel is because they don't want kids playing with them in the store and getting hurt. Look at all the UA-cam videos with adult taking it off and riding the boards around in the store.
I have a walmart bord now im sad
same bro
Ew poor
Ian Fricke stfu 🙄
obbymaster 2010 zumiez is a good shop but not one of the best , there’s so many local skate shops that are better and are in the community which help out locally.
Same
I just started today I have experience with skim boarding on water so I’m kinda good but I was godly at skateboarding today can’t wait to see what I’m capable of
I noticed if you look at them from the side, they dont come "up" asmuch along the middle of the board. Idk if thats concave or not, but where the wheels are the bored sort of "pops" up along the middle goes back down before going back up at the end. Iv noticed legit boards from trusted brands proper skateboards have more of this bend in the middle.
Most important message from the entire video: Do what makes you happy! 💚
i wwanna see ryden ride the small board and try tricks on it.
aNtiDIsEsTabLisHMenTaRiAniSM StRuCtuREd aGaiNSt yOu imagine hating on an 8 year old that is probably the lowest thing ever
Andy, you are a great human being and I enjoy your content and appreciate you bro. Love the way you run your company and treat your family. Keep up the great work 😎👍😊
i have a walmart board and it is really good it has lasted like 3 months
Xxlesbeain_gamerXx mine that I had a while ago lasted from 2018 to December 2019 now I have a five below board because I don’t get much allowance a week only 5$ I got it on Sunday and I did a few tricks on it and rode it on sidewalk and in my house on tile and it’s still like new only the wheels are dirty
f yeah for not clowning on cheap boards 🙌🙌
If you can find metal truck boards at Walmart or target get mad gear brand, I got one and it was 100x better then kryptonics
Damn, I'm using a 12 dollar kryptonite board
I had a madgear one and it sucked for me I couldn’t roll the grip was warn out when I got right after I took of the plastic and I didn’t feel safe so I got actual wheels bearings and trucks and it worked way better
I feel like they are great boards for starting. And when you get better you can upgrade.
I was riding a walmart board and stopped out of nowhere and I fell and hurt my self🤕🤕
Great info. Because of you and Ryden my 6 year old daughter wants to skate. Just bought her a new board and we've been out in the driveway getting it done. Thanks for all the great content.
My first board was a Walmart board then it snapped 💔
Yo, same here I was just trying to practice doing and Ollie and then snap, there goes my board 🤷🏻♀️😔🤣🤣
try and amazon they are good enough
@ClickbaitKyroYT nah I spent 140 or 150 on my first board
Mine a little rip but I replaced it
I like videos like this.Andy is just good at reviewing things.
I have a walmart skateboard 💀😣🥺
Go to your local skate shop and get a professional grade board
Could get a used complete at a skate shop for like 50
@@cookncrook6902 for now it works really well and rides smoothly but i will get a pro skateboard
Xxangelina_collazoxX same 🗿
@@joshsmith2771 bettttt
I bought a revive fingerboard today and I'm so happy!!!!!!
23rd comment
Keep doing what your doing
Don’t comment what comment you are just don’t it’s annoying
Korrupt this is why Andrew turns comments off on most of his vids so people like u don’t put stupid comments
Korrupt if he wants to comment “23rd comment” then should be allowed to do so..😂
A couple years ago I was going fast on a Walmart board and hit a pebble and went flying so a week later for xmas I got a revive board and loved it ever since
I love rover he's cute
I've been a fan for ages. Love you so much ❤️
I stopped skateboarding about a year ago and have just picked it back up and remembered this channel existed lol
Lol
When i was trying to learn an ollie on a Walmart board I was doing the pop and the truck just snapped in half lmao
You and Braille skateboarding made me start skating still not very good but I’m getting better
To B honest the slow roller bearings although terrible performance for the purpose it’s made for. It did slow the Ollie landing to help build that muscle memory without the board just rolling right out from under me.the one I had rolled slowly enough to get the mental instability out of the equation. But different strokes for different folks!
I had a target board back in the day. My friend’s dad did one kick flip on it and it snapped in half 😂
Walmart boards are pretty good if you replace the things on this list
list:
1.deck
2.griptape
3.wheels and bearings
4.trucks
5.hardware
also the washers
Thanks for being honest dude
My board is a Kryptonics U.S.A design California with metal trucks and it rolls good, it’s pretty sweet man!
Trying to get into skating because I've been watching your videos for like 2 years by now
I was thinking, can you take the bearings out of those Walmart wheels and install a low priced set of real skateboard bearings.
If you get a Walmart board go get the Braille board it is probably the best you can get
My first board was a Rage skateboard from big 5 in 1999.
I didnt have another board so i couldnt complain. it worked
i was one of your first subscribers bro. your vids are amazing right now
I learnt on a Kmart board for thirty bucks it was good quality for thirty dollars but the trucks came loose often I learnt on it for a year with basket ball shoes I got a proper board and shoes like 6 to 7 months ago I got vans and an element board it helped me so much I’m on my way to my first board slide
Aloha from maui!! My 2.5 year old son keagen is obsessed with you guys! Watches your videos during lunch time and He cheers for your son on every trick...thank you so much for the good clean videos of just straight fun skating! Any chance I can be notified when your kids boards are restocked I so want to get him the red one your son always uses for christmas. For now we shopped at our local skate shop and he loves his board so much he's asked me on multiple occasions if he can take it with him to nap time hahaha I just know he would freak over your board! @thatkeikikeagen is his instagram! Looking forward to the restock of kids boards! Thanks again for being so awesome!!
That worker is the reason that ima actually have something good to use
Turning 12 :)
Hello thank you for making these videos I have been whatching your vids a lot now. I have LOVED your vids now
i used to know a guy who skated exclusively target boards, and all he would do was switch the trucks out and the bearings out, kid was gnarly haha
I like how he describes it, if you get hurt it should be your fault not your boards, I'm taking that, it mine now
Just try to go to your local shop and get a mini logo complete.
I replaced the bearings though, didn’t help much.
shut up Walter pfp
