      +Rahul Ray I lived in Calcutta for much of my childhood. 8/10 locals I know still call it Calcutta. I would say upper-class Bengalis prefer the old name.

      @@rahulray9983 I agree with that. It flows better as Kolkata in BENGALI. But they shouldn't have changed the name to Kolkata in EVERY language. While I was born in Dhanbad, I spent much of my early life in Calcutta when I wasn't in boarding school up North. So it is instinctively still Calcutta to me. The best way I can explain is that Kolkata sounds very provincial instead of one of the 4 major cities, and once THE major city in India.

    "Panipuri" it is also known as "Phuchka" in Bengal ... pani puri has many different name in India....in some places it is called
    "Gup Chup"

      Flavours differ as well. Prefer the Mumbai variant over the Delhi Golgappas. Haldiram’s of course has reduced them to “water balls”!

    He actually pronounces the name of the city correctly.....during British rule, the city was called "Calcutta".....But later on, she has been renamed to "Kolkata", pronounced the way he pronounces it....

      Bengalis eat more fresh water fish from rivers, ponds and lakes, more than 200 varieties, and Bengali food is more oily, greasy, because we use mustard paste, mustard oil, coconut milk, poppy seed paste, milk cream, etc for cooking...
      We only eat some sea fishes

    This man has an iron stomach. you do not know food poisoning till you've experienced Indian street food. As an Indian living abroad, I am seriously warning you guys. Dont go there thinking you can eat everything, your stomachs arent primed.

      Tanay Luthra I went to India recently and from day 1 started eating street food thinking I was immune to the germs since I was born there and lived there for about 17 yrs . I was fine for the first week and then day 10 I had to go to the doctor 😂

      That's not the case. It happens with us Indians too when we visit a different state. But once you get sick that's about it. After that you will be just fine.

    I am from Mumbai..but I feel a strong connection with Kolkata. I was there in year 2007. I instantly fell in love with this city. City of joy for a reason 💓 my favorite street food are kathi roll, puchka and chilla. And Bengali sweets are heaven. And bengali cinema 😍.. Durga pujo 🥰 and Sourav Ganguly is love 😂

    Yes it was pani puri. In Kolkata it is called 'Puchka', in Delhi it is called 'Golgappa'. I'm a Bengali but live in Mumbai & visited Delhi. I can confirm that 'Pani Puri' of Mumbai is better than other two.
    Taste level: Pani Puri > Golgappa > Puchka

    I m a bong girl....born and brought of west bengal....so I know the value of all these food....specially fish....in bengali it means 'MAACH'...most of the bengalis love to have fish with rice...means "Maachh Bhaat" and deep fried fish in mastered oil....means "Maachh Bhaja" because it compliments the flavour....but we also like to have sea food...FISH...its not only a food for bengalis...IT'S AN EMOTION...LOVE....OUR IDENTITY🤣😘❤️🐟🐟🐟

    I bet kolkata isn't all about deep fried junk food ( as demonstrated in the video) . There are some really good authentic homely bengali dishes that are to die for( aloo posto etc.) . I think we should advertise those salubrious aspects of Indian cuisine than just portraying us as people who love drinking shit load oil and sugar syrup . Deep down , an outsider would never actually want to try such food

    The Bengali version of gulabjamun is PANTUA.
    It's softer and less fried.. You gotta try it next time.warm pantua and vanilla ice cream 🥰
    BTW misti means sweets... Anything sweet is misti.. But they have different names for different mistis.

    By the way Rick, Indrani didn’t tell you about Calcutta’s original name Kolkata! Yes it is pronounced exactly the way it is written (pronounced like coal-ka-ta). Btw Beef is not a luxury but a rarity, as you can only have it in certain states and certain parts of India where there is pre-dominantly non-Hindu population.

    Try jaggerry rasogolla... roso malai.. Jaggerry is called Gur in bengali. On winter time we produce Nolen Gur.. By this we make rasogolla. Its mesmerising.. We make Jagerry Ice cream also..

      Yes, misti means sweet, like 'mithai'. But there are different names for different mishtis.

      Mithai=Mishti. Just like every sweet is Mithai in Hindi, every sweet is Mishti in Bengali. But every Mithai/Mishti has a unique name.

    It is an old video. 130 rupees is $2.1 in this video. Now it is less than $2. I am quite sure that the prices of the food items wouldn't have proportionality increased with the fall of rupee.

    In kolkata all the fishes are 100% fresh. Fresh water, sweet water (from our Holy Ganga River) fish. Extremely delicious
