Killer riffage man. I heard someone being interviewed at NAMM in a UA-cam video years ago. They were being asked about the most important thing to remember while creating music... He said to just simply "Serve the song.". I like this very simple approach, and I like that you reminded me of this. It doesn't have to be "Eruption" played flawlessly every time you sit down to record. Basically, we've gotta just lay something down, simple or not, try to stay in key, and have fun making music. Great reminder, and very informative video. Well done, dude! Appreciate you man. I also really love that you used the acoustic during a power outage to make the most of things as well - always creating, and being positive, even when the storms come! Glad y'all made it through the storms ok, and killer lesson! 🤘🖤🙏
Rhythm is the soul of any song. It provides a time based template for the Lead guitar. Most bass guitars are connected to the Rhythm guitar notes or one of the drums. Very nice information.
I just finished watching the first part of Taylor Danley‘s how to Rite Aid death metal song video and then I watched your video and I’m really feeling a lot more inspired to get back into my DAW and start trying to create something new. I have many ideas that have just fizzled out that I would like to come back to, but I feel like I need a fresh start and this helped thank you, Jason!
hey Jason, long time Ive been away.. great video here/ i moved out of texas and to arkansas where I have a studio for my guitars and equipment. . I love being here and look forward to catching up on your videos that I have missed,
I hope you had these already, those drums just went on sale lol. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I write melodies a lot more readily XD I need to get back to Riff Master >_> lol I have a little glass tea light candle cup I put picks in :D I like what you did with the bass, too. Something vibing like this, the bass should be up higher and clearly doing its thing vs reinforcing a heavy low end. It sounds great :D
Oh yeah, I already had the Krimh and Trivium drums! I still use EZDrummer because I have their Metal Machine and Death Metal packs, and also their non-metal drums are great for rock and other styles. But I will say that Bogren Digital's drums sound amazing! So that's probably what you'll hear more of for these types of videos.
I recently buy ibanez iron label xiphos 7 string guitar. Its my first 7 string guitar and i have couple question. Its in (low A) d standard tuning i have 10-52+64 gauges. Should i wrap many rounds around tuning peg or does one or two do the job? feels like it quite well in tune. However, feels like i have to fine tune it all the time. Also when i play low 7 string like around 12-24 frets it have this ugly metallic noise when i come back to lower frets its all good. Other string doesnt have this metallic noise at all.
I don't know if this video will help but it's one of me changing strings on my old 7 string with a Floyd and locking tuners: ua-cam.com/video/IAU8GM_BGck/v-deo.html
My question is on volume leveling. How do you sort that out with trying to get the lead guitar “in front of” the rhythm and drums. I have the hardest time with this.
This is great if your a fan of technology and polished playing?but some are old school and have nothing but 4- 4-12 cabs and 2 150 watt heads and no laptop,no computers, the way i prefer
@iduncanw yes but old school analog dime bag Way,no digital,no laptop etc just raw little effects (reverb) aggressive playing, the way it was meant to be before this age of polished no mistake crap, metal is about the feeling and emotions etc not about precise edit out this backtrack this etc, so many players can't even function when you tell em plug straight in and jam! This shows off talent and not covering up or editing 3 riffs into one that they couldn't play at slow speeds,my way my opinion,I'm old school Pantera Metallica ( thrash band 82-89,) testament, anthrax, slayer, Exodus, suicidal tendencies, Megadeth, just to name a few! And yes I've got demos n studio stuff etc, happy thrashing brother 💥💥🔥
To each their own and you have to do what works best for you. But you may have missed my point of the video...this is just to get down ideas. The last album I released was recorded miking amps and hiring a real drummer. Also, no drums or music are synchronized to a grid nor was any pitch correction used.
@jasonstallworth yeah I get the video meaning ,I click it just to support guitar players,I just threw it out there that all live shows these days are mostly backtracks, not live actual playing and new bands and generations are so polished, they have missed the whole message of playing Metal,it's not about how clean, accurate and polished it's about attitude and rebellion against society that trys and tell you you can't achieve something greater! Thanks Jason 💥💥🔥🎸🤫
Everybody’s vibrato is a little bit different critiquing someone on one specific part of their playing when they’re talking about a broad subject like writing a song based off of a melody is a little pedantic and nitpicky

Such a great message - serve the song! Thank you for watching and glad this helped!
I do love these type of videos: motivation by doing. Thanks, Jason.
Love it...yes, motivation comes from action!

Do you still record stuff and put together tracks? I'd like to not always rely on using my laptop.

@ Man, I’m 💯 % with you on that!
Vibrato is not correct, need to be more smoother in playing. It's not right
Everybody’s vibrato is a little bit different critiquing someone on one specific part of their playing when they’re talking about a broad subject like writing a song based off of a melody is a little pedantic and nitpicky
@prestonbowden1008 no, all your leads need work
Maybe so, but you are obviously the sunshine of every get together when people want to show something they’ve created.
@prestonbowden1008 feel it more
What a bush league comment
