First of all, yes its an Accord Type-R in most markets, but this track is located in Monterey, California, United States, where there weren't any Honda Type R's until very recently when the Fk30 Civic Type R was brought to the California Market, albeit a very choked down, restricted version that meets CA's Air Resource Board Strictest in the World Emission restriction requirements, but nonetheless, this is not a Honda, it is an Acura, which is a division of Honda Motor Co and is like Lexus is to Toyota, except Lexus exists outside of the USA whilst Acura only exists in America & is basically just rebadged Accord, Integra, RSX, Civics, SUVs, etc, but the only Acura that matters (to me, really) is the NSX, the 1st Generation....
Oh the Laguna Seca/GT5 nod to Mazda "joke", well then, the ADHD meds aren't really working, are they ?
So, the reason there are only Hondas/ Acuras all over the side of and in the pits/infield area of Laguna Seca Raceway is.....
Because it was and will always be Mazda Laguna Seca, even if Mazda cannot afford to pay for the name rights, it won't matter. And you are correct, Mazda and Honda are direct competitors and fierce Rivals and have been for many many years, so the reason there are only Hondas on the sidelines of Laguna Seca(imho) is because they aren't on the track, racing, they are on the parking lot broken down or whatever, which is a nice little nod to Mazda being more reliable than Honda in the engine department (the Traditional Piston/non-Rotary Engine Dept) and Mazda have always been much better at reliability, not that Honda are anything to scoff at, on the contrary, Honda are known as top of the field in the reliability department, which is because of all the marketing and money they put into the fast & furious franchise, or at least the first one, but Mazda will always run longer and get better mpg, burn less oil and do it on less than favorable gasoline than the Honda can.
