Written by Norman "Hurricane" Smith's wife, Eileen. He did, in fact, perform the original which went to number 3 on the US Billboard "Hot 100" chart and number 4 on the UK singles chart in 1972. Little known is the fact that Mr. Smith was the audio engineer for all the Beatles tracks up till 1965's Rubber Soul after which he was promoted to "producer" status by EMI. His memoir, "John Lennon Calls Me Normal", is a very fun and informative read.
