Considering how long it takes for stock to clear through Amazon, how do we know we have a “good” unit? I assume this was a hardware upgrade for filtering…
I was lucky to get one of the first "clean" radios and I do like this radio more than any other Chinese radio I own. The menus are superior and being unlocked, I can use all the bands! Best $49 radio anywhere!
Thanks for reviewing the Talkpod. Seems to be a lot of radio for the price. Glad they listened to the reviewers and cleaned it up. I may just pick one up for a 'kick around' radio. Especially like the air band receive.
What do you think k the chances are talkpod purposely sent you a “good one” that they knew would pass, and the normal ones they sell are still dirty? Just wondering if they tried to pull a sneaky.
Great insight and I like that one can copy past from another radio file. I have the latest Chirp next installed and this A36+ radio, expanded. The specs say it does 108 to 136MHz in AM (Aircraft Band). However there is only FM or NBFM selection avail for the MODE tab in chirp. Any ideas how to set AM?
Kudos for actually testing it out before putting out the video. I hate it when the reviewer takes it out of the box and half the comments are "not sure how you do that".
Thanks for the thorough review, Mike. It seems like a decent radio. Question, please: What's a good do-all HT, like the Talkpod, that allows both frequency AND name to be diplayed? I lose track of what frequency goes with what repeater. Thanks again, Michael
I just bought an A36Plus with Firmware Version 1.24. I’m hoping I have one of the clean ones, since I purchased it less than 30 days ago. Do you know which firmware version came with yours? Thanks!
I just bought a couple Talkpods in less than 2 months, i am wondering if mine are clean or not... difference it see in yours is the color and the Mic Hole, my Mic Holes are about 1/4 inche from the PPT Thumb Button. Am curious now...
How does the scanning work with the different groupings ; GMRS way down then marine, then other repeaters. Why was it all separated and will all scan at once still or each thing can scan separate,, yes I just got the radio ur presenting cuz of ur video
Thank you for the up date on Talk pod A36. I had a set of 2 GMRS ones brought to me to program GMRS repeater local for a friend. was easy to set up. the problem was that oner manual so bad the oner could not figure it out. Tahy not HAM. only new GMRS licensee .The stock antenna worked great. better than Baofeng stock antenna. I just order one for my self. should have in a few days. it's shipped. it it's clean I keep. I did power test on the one I programmed. that was a tad over 5 watt GMRS. no harmonics but UHF only TX. did not un lock it. not my radio. I will on mine . also told will do 1.25 meter un locked TX . will try when I get it. 73;s
I don't know what its going to take to get some manufacturer to allow for more than 8 or 10 characters when naming channels. That's not nearly enough, IMO. I find myself needing to keep a spreadsheet on my phone to keep track of everything. One of the reasons I switched to a DMR radio. At least with that I can put repeaters in zones to help keep them organized.
IF... you are in a flight path or in proximity to a tower... and IF you restrict your monitoring to TWO (2) freqs (dual receive). If you set to scan, you'll find the receive is degraded, because of the nature of AM. I'm 40 nautical miles from an International Airport tower, and in a flight path. I can hear aircraft, but no tower comms. I'm a little closer (20 nm) from a private field and can hear unicom, but no tower/no ATIS.
You must have great eyesight ? The Keypad to see short-cuts even with backlight, is unreadable,(numbers are reable), but unlike my decent QuanshengUVK5, which is very very clear. I am annoyed that no UA-cam reviewer pointed out this design flaw in the Talkpod , which makes it a potential serious liability eg for emergency use, and there is no time to get magnification equipment to read the menu ! No idea how this got trough their Design QA, but should have been caught by the reviewers.
You suppose to have a License to talk on GMRS --- it cost $35 for a 10 year License -- dropped from around $100 if not mistaken. You can get one online.

I like how some of these companies are fixing their dirty radios. The price is right. It's a good time to be a ham.

I don't understand 95% of what you just talked about but appreciate you have taken the time to review this.

Will the Talkpod v.23 Firmware release fix the spurious emission problem in older A36+ redios or did they make hardware changes?
Nice review. I keep looking for a nice HT that's a bit better than my cheap Baofeng but not so expensive like a Kenwood.
I have ordered one of these radios the upgraded version seems pretty good for the money it's a step up from the Quansheng

Anything is possible

Well thank you. I try to learn about the products I review before hitting the record button.

Check out TIDradio TD-H3 or H8
Glad to see they cleaned up the spurious emissions. Looks like a great deal.

Thanks For The Video Good To Hear It’s Cleaned Up Now How To Get The Latest Model With The Fix
Great review Mike. Good to see Talkpod cleaned it up because really, it's a pretty decent radio otherwise

Thats awesome that they fixed it!
So, is the link in the description to the revised clean radio? There is nothing on Amazon saying this is the revised clean radio 🤔 de WE0H ..
What does the DS on the Display Screen tell you? I can't seem to figure it out using the Manual. Thanks in advance.
The latest Chirp-next has the new A36PLUS 8W with 999 channels in case you haven't noticed. I just ordered two of these "GMRS" models from Amazon.
Good to know, I just got the new A36.
It would be nice if we had a list of serial numbers so that we know if we are getting a dirty one or a clean one.
Not bad. Is there a mobile radio that also does all bands?
Excellent video.
I don't know how to use the air band and was if you could show me how to get it. 🙏
Thank you ...

Now that I bought the talkpod on your recommendation, please do a vid on how to update the firmware.
I am a student pilot and I need an inexpensive radio to listen to the airband, is the Talkpod A36 Plus a good option for me? Thank you.

Omce mine says "Expand", it reboots go channel mode.😮
My channels don't work how do I fix it?
Was this a hardware or firmware fix? I have one of the original radios and would like to know how to clean it up if possible.
Guarantee it is a hardware fix. It takes filtering to resolve the spurs.

How can i unlock it to transmit on AM aviation bands?
You can't.
You can't
I would love it if you would do a detailed video of how to use one of those devices. How to set up for Ham Radio Not the rig the Nano
Huh???
@@hamradiotubeI think he means how to set up and use the tinySA for testing ham radio equipment
It would be useful to know power out levels including 220MHz😢
Is this license free?

I am glad they stuck with the clean up process. The display on the radio looks pretty useable.
Sad Ham...so sad
