This is by far one of my favorite guns in the game. My preferred class is a sort of medium ranged scout-sniper class. The key is to remain stealthy and out of the fray. I like to run silencer and extended mags. Silencer in tandem with extended mags allows me to quietly and quickly put down multiple enemies at a time with well aimed, rapid shots. I like running scavenger, dead silence, awareness, and off the grid. Scavenger allows me to be self sufficient which ties in nicely with the scout sniper role. Off the grid is a key stealth perk. I do use a headset to dead silence and awareness are amazing. Driftors point about the trusty secondary is important but not necessarily needed with awareness and dead silence when using a headset. I can hear anyone near me and therefore know when I should lay low and wait for them to pass, or flank and spray them down. The somewhat high rate of fire allows for more manageable close-mid range engagements and with stealth on your side they wont know what hit them. Alternatively, if your not a headset user you should drop awareness for a secondary and some equipment like an IED. Don't drop dead silence though because there are a lot of people, like myself, who use headsets and it is extremely beneficial. Focus is nice but not needed because you really shouldn't get shot at that much, (and idle sway really isn't that bad). For the most part you should be stealthy enough to drop people before they ever even know you're there. Have fun!
First of all he did mention it (3:55) Second it doesn't matter anyway because the base stats reflect the fact that it has this which he would have covered anyway with or without mentioning the built in foregrip.
kylejensen31 But it comes with a scope by default and it takes 0.3 seconds to ADS by default. Are you saying you get less time to ADS with the iron sights? That makes it faster than all of the ARs to ADS which doesn't make sense
I usually run all the Marksmen Rifles with the thermal hybrid. You lose some definition, but you have a sight for long and short range. You gain a little bit of scope movement but focus gets rid of most of it. And you don't have to waste a slot on a pistol.
I really like running the MR like this: Thermal/Reddot & Silencer Quickdraw, Stalker, Off the Grid and Focus leaves it useful for any range and keeps it off the radar, compliments the scope very well.
Bob Mit Go away, no scope is "noob"... Whats next, "red dot noobz"?? Tell me whats wrong using the thermal as a long range backup at maps like stormfront and prison break where 4/6 enemies always camp their ass off in some grASSy corner, please.
Thank you for the awesome in-depth video! I tried your stealth class (in local play) but i swapped out all the marksman riffles. I have to agree, the mr-28 is a great weapon. Best fire rate, best accuracy, and good enough damage for me even with the red dot. I also just realized that it has an integrated grip. At first, I thought it was just for looks. Hehe.
The foregrip comes in handy, as this is the one weapon in its class that performs well with the burst fire attachment. I threw burst fire on with a silencer and the result was a really good rifle. You already need to put out 3-4 shots in most cases to compensate for the relatively low (for the class) damage output, so that setup means you effectively only have to pull the trigger once, maybe twice. Outside of use with 3 round burst, the foregrip comes in handy when using this gun in it's natural role; more towards the AR side of an SR/AR hybrid. So all those time you run up to guys in mid-range confrontations, you can get on the trigger and not worry about the recoil getting TOO out of hand.
I have an all-around class with this gun: MR-28 with Thermal (Yes, Thermal) and silencer. Ready up Quickdraw Focus Dead Silence P226 (Usually with Akimbo) And I do whatever else I want with the other 2 slots With this class, I can have both long range engagements (with thermal), and have somewhat close range fights with the VMR/Red Dot sight which can be swapped from the thermal. That's just another class i think everyone should try.
Dear drift0r, I absolutely love your videos!!! When I see a new in depth, it makes my day:). You deserve more subscribers for your very good quality videos. Your video of how to get better at ghosts really helped me. Just wanted to say thanks for everything:)
Great video, very enjoyable. I love running the MR-28 and I swap between a few different setups. I'm currently messing around with an ACOG and Burst Fire. It's fun.
My preferred class with this weapon: mr-28 with thermal and suppressor, perks are stalker, dead silence, scavenger, focus and I fluctuate between amplify, sitrep and ping.
I personally like using the thermal hybrid scope because I can snipe with it and it has a built in red dot sight you can switch to on the fly and that takes away the need for a secondary weapon opening up an extra perk slot
Every gun is beast in hardcore, why would you choose a semi-auto that can 1 shot over an automatic rifle like the R5 that can 1 shot to almost the same range?
drift0r, youve often said that ghosts is an assault rifle dominant game, however i disagree with that. AR's are by far the most popular, but with the map sizes of ghosts paired with the great connection, hit boxes, and the sheer DPS of marksman rifes, theyre honestly a tier above. I mean think about it, the two top AR's are the ak-12 and the R5. the R5 shoots at 616 RPM, kills in 3 shots up close, trailing out to 5 shots. AK-12 is shoots at 630 RPM, killing in 3 shots up close, trailing out to 4. the MR-28 shoots at 600 RPM, kills in 2 shots up close (1 headshot), trailing out to a 3 shot kill, all while boasting much better range profiles, penetration, and hit flinch. And this isnt even comparing the other, more specialized and arguably better rifles.
It takes more focus to use marksman rifles however, and you don't have to make an effort to keep pressing the trigger with the assault rifles. That's probably why he said that.
Most people say that the ARs are better because they outperforme the Marksman Rifle in Close Quarters. And most of the players ignore them beause they think they arent very powerfull
Pretty sure that when he says the game is AR dominated, that he means that's what most people use, which is true, regardless of whether or not there are better weapons
ARs don't really outperform marksman rifles anywhere. ARs are easy to use and that's why most kids run around with them. Just put burst fire on your marksman rifle and then you will be using a 1-2 shot kills snipers with great accuracy, medium recoil and great range.
actually what's funny is that the mtar-x with rapid fire goes up to 950 rpm and only goes to a 4 hit kill at range this dps exceeds that of the ak-12 and r5 and at close range were it is a 3 hit kill will destroy both of them, meaning it will out dps both of them at any range making it very powerful.
I used this weapon in public matches and its really good. One of my favorite weapons so far in fact, and definitely one I'd consider using over some Sniper. If anyone wants to try out this class, then go ahead and copy what I got below. MR-28 - Burst Fire and Suppressor (Rarely see anyone using Burst on MR's) PDW - Suppressor Incog Off the grid Dead Silence Fully Loaded
My personal use of the gun is with a thermal hybrid and a silencer I have got many killstreaks with this setup and I often sacrifice a side arm with it due to the added holographic sight, my perks are often quick draw, incog, focus, dead silence, and ready up, I have gotten multiple sentry guns, vultures, and juggernauts of this
Drift, hows the 3 round burst on the MR-28? does the damage drop? is it faster to spam? is it worth using? Keep up the great work with the In-Depth man, you do a great job
Try using this with burst fire and like red dot or holographic, run ready up, quick draw, stalker and agility to move super fast and stay competitive in close range and the naturally high damage and range of the marksman rifles will keep you competitive at long range as well. The MR 28 is especially suited to doing this because it has the highest rate of fire and accuracy. I can spray down 2-3 people at a time in close range like this and still pick off people at long range. And because its a little bit different it makes it a blast to run!
Something I was wondering about: At 3:00, you state, "However, if you have a mod controller or an awesome trigger finger and shooting faster than that, it'll actually over sample the gun and cause it to jam up or fire slower..." Is this in the code to slow down the rate of fire, or is it simply that if you're pushing at a rate faster than 600 RPM, there are trigger pulls that simply don't fire a round because the gun's not ready to fire yet and will not fire again for another full cycle of the trigger pull which results in a slower than 600 RPM? (Kind of like how vertical synchronization on monitors with a low refresh rate can delay feedback from input).
This is my assault rifle replacement. I was never a fan of the ARs in this game, and I found that using this with irons or red dot, with the high damage, low recoil, and big magazine, it acts like the old high accuracy semi auto rifles from other games, like the old M21 EBR or the FAL, but even more accurate and faster to fire. My favorite MR to use as an MR is the MK14, but I love this on maps where I'd usually use an AR. But I'm old and hang back more, play at longer ranges; I'm not up in people's faces much, except for by accident.
Hey Drift0r, I was wondering if you could do an in depth comparison between the MR-28 and IA-2. Like what are the benefits over one to the other, and which varying scenarios is one better than the other, etc
Personally I love running around with this thing with its default optic, and treating it like an assault rifle. I kind of wish the assault rifles had scopes like this available for them. That, or give the ACOG the dual-render thing that sniper scopes have in this game...
why would you want the acog to have the dual render like sniper scopes? it is actually more beneficial to have a clear sight of your peripheral vision, y'know?
Because the ACOG is a magnified optic. While I know Call of Duty is nowhere NEAR the realm of being even SLIGHTLY realistic, it still bothers me that the "sniper" optics have the dual-render, because they're magnified optics, while the ACOG doesn't. It's just a dumb personal preference.
Never understood the dual render anyways... It's not realistic. It's actually less realistic than the black sides when zooming down a scope. No one snipes with both eyes wide open.
You'd be surprised about the "both eyes open" thing. Most instructors these days teach both eyes open, it actually works. Better peripheral vision, too. It's especially useful with lower magnification optics, like the ACOG (of course it works best with non-magnified optics like EoTechs or Aimpoints, but that's not the point).
If you usually put on a blue dot for the red dot sight, and you want to stop mistakenly calling it a red dot, just call it a reflex sight. There is nothing you can get it mixed up with because the only other non-magnifying sight is the holographic, which is just a sight that uses a bit more of a complex reflection pattern to "eliminate" parallax. Not like any of that means anything on COD though, or any game for that matter.
+nexus1g it's per triggerpull. So when you have 600 RPM you fire 1 bullet per 0.1 second. But if you pull the trigger at 0.1 and at 0.15 you only fire one bullet, if you pull the trigger again at 0.23 you will fire a bullet. So with 3 pulls you fired 2 bullets and lost 0.03 seconds!
When I first used this MR I thought it was the best MR in game but then I used the MK14 EBR and everything changed :-) MR-28 is now my second favourite MR
Omg this rifle has such an amazing feel to it, love using it in a scout sniper method, I hold a choke point and I can rack up so, so many kills. it's amazing, counters assault rifles every time when you put some ground between each other. Don't try to use this like a normal assault rifle, it's a high power, very high rate of high weapon. I use suppressor and extended mags, the only thing I say is absolutely have to have is Fully Loaded. To be fair, the suppressor doesn't do a huge amount for me but without it you just bring so much attention to yourself, you can mess the enemy around quite a bit even if you just killed the entire team and they are all pissed off and want to hunt you down (always happens, COD players are obsessed with trying to kill who just killed them which usually ends up getting them killed since you can pretty much smell their anger through the screen)
Personally I feel this gun is way OP. Whether I die from it, or use it myself, it's so quick to kill and out classes a lot of guns. The trinity rocket needs a serious buff too.
imo the mr28 is one of if not the best scoped guns in the game. and my attachments seem solid. a silencer and armor piercing rounds. the silencer takes from your range but when you factor in the bullet output or rate of fire and the ability to see across the map, the damage of each bullet is irrelevant. scope, spot, drill, and move. also quickdraw and ready up make it ridiculously easy to win those sudden up-close gun fights.
My MR-28 Class Red Dot Sight Three RND-Burst Suppressor Secondary Vector CRB Holographic Sight Suppressor (I made this class a while ago and don’t remember any perks because..... it’s Ghosts, but I know it had scavenger and secondary gunfighter, I guess it’s your choice of perks from there)
Here is my Personal loud out for this weapon, Holo, for the damage drop of Que, MB, for increase range, on the MR-28, Duel-wield .44 Magnums, no Grenada or Lethals, Perks: Ready Up, Quickdraw, On the go, Take down, Scavenger, and Focus. Strike Package: Specialist, Perks: Slight of hand, Reflex, and Dead silence, Bonus Perks: Blind eye, ICU, Sit rep, and Ping. See how you do and reply; really effective in StrikeZone 24/7
Love this and the remointon on single shot with the range muzzle pice and a acog I like playing with 6 veteran mod bots on resists. Ode with noe respawns
Best to sum up this gun and the play style with it is "Fast & Accurate" IMO Run with Optic of choice and AP rounds. (whats the point of a bigger (High DMG) bullet if it doesn't penetrate armor which is used often online) . Ready Up/Slight of Hand/On The Go/Marathon/Resilience. Quickdraw/Stalker/dead silence could be sub'd in if desired/prefered. P226 Tac Knife no nades. (I never used them or die trying to use them) Assualt (Radar/IMS or Dog/Sentry or manic) Support (Ammo/helo scout/oracle)
when you do the svu review try this class the svu with iron sights muzzle break and burst fire and the p226 with akimbo extended mags perks are up to you
You want a slayer class? Use an mk14 (yea ik an mk14) with irons and muzzle. You get 2 shot kills for daysss and it doesn't seem to have as much recoil as when it has optics. It's a great class and I've gotten Lokis on Lokis with it
actually it only seems like the MR's have less recoil with iron sights because of the lack of zoom, when an optic is put on they zoom in more causing more recoil.
Can't wait for the LMGs. Imo, they have the best damage, bullet penetration, & magazine size.I use the M27 as an Assault rifle :p. Just put on Sleight of Hand & Agility.
I've been playing cod since the 4th and the only time i've ever gotten a "nuke" or K.E.M. is with this rifle and my K.E.M. count on Ghost is 5 and is a very highly skilled player rifle like drift0r said take you time and pay attention to accuracy you will own the map
I respect your opinions on the classes, but I highly disagree. I currently have around a 2.9-2.95 with this using a suppressor and the thermal hybrid. I completely eliminate the need for the secondary with the strategic use of the VMR/Thermal combo. It's a fantastic gun, but some of the number crunching leads to slight misinterpretation of the gun's true potential. Good video!
Dammit Drift0r every time i visit youtube i end up watching like 10 of your videos in a row
I love you
This is by far one of my favorite guns in the game. My preferred class is a sort of medium ranged scout-sniper class. The key is to remain stealthy and out of the fray. MR-28 is amazing. If you know how to control your trigger finger, it'll be the best gun in all situations for you.
And be accurate
Well yeah, like he said.. You can't just spray sweep until you're on your target, like 80% of the COD population does with assault rifles.
am i dreaming or did he forgot to mention that the gun has built in foregrip?,most people dont notice it
First of all he did mention it (3:55)
Second it doesn't matter anyway because the base stats reflect the fact that it has this which he would have covered anyway with or without mentioning the built in foregrip.
He mentions it at 3.54
He mentioned it at around 3:55
He DOES mention it around 3:55.
In case you didn't know HE MENTIONED IT AT 3:55
Acog fmj multi camo miss this game soooo much i was always at the top of the lobby
Do you ADS faster with the iron sights?
It says you get faster mobility with it
no red dot is the same
yes. he said it on a few videos ago
kylejensen31 But it comes with a scope by default and it takes 0.3 seconds to ADS by default. Are you saying you get less time to ADS with the iron sights?
That makes it faster than all of the ARs to ADS which doesn't make sense
theizza68 drift0r said you do scope in faster with iron sights but not by a significant amount. just what he said not me
9:54 i think he had too much crack and didnt feel the shots hitting him, which is why he was running so fast.
lol
😂😂 Made my day
I usually run all the Marksmen Rifles with the thermal hybrid. You lose some definition, but you have a sight for long and short range. You gain a little bit of scope movement but focus gets rid of most of it. And you don't have to waste a slot on a pistol.

I bet you felt mad hype when you put together the two gameplays with the Gryphon.
Hehe.
Did anyone else notice when he opened up the laptop for the Gryphon, it swapped to a different map with him using the Gryphon? That was cool.
It was very cool! :))
magic of edeting
The foregrip comes in handy, as this is the one weapon in its class that performs well with the burst fire attachment. I threw burst fire on with a silencer and the result was a really good rifle. My CoD Ghosts RTC episode 74 just uploaded! Flawless KEM! Take a peek, cheers!!!
with a red dot sight this is easily my favorite weapon on ghosts
Drift0r you are one of the few youtubers where i can comfortably like before watching :D + keep up the good work
comfortably like before watching? gay.
robob221 Im gay? You`re Probably just calling me gay cuz you too scared to admit that you are one yourself.. so go get a life!
Mathies the panda dude. your comment sounds so gay.
robob221 Dude your life sounds even more gay..
Mathies the panda dude, how do you know my life. Your gay.
I have an all-around class with this gun:
MR-28 with Thermal (Yes, Thermal) and silencer.
Ready up
Quickdraw
Focus
Dead Silence
P226 (Usually with Akimbo)
And I do whatever else I want with the other 2 slots
With this class, I can have both long range engagements (with thermal), and have somewhat close range fights with the VMR/Red Dot sight which can be swapped from the thermal. That's just another class i think everyone should try.
Dear drift0r,
I absolutely love your videos!!! When I see a new in depth, it makes my day:). You deserve more subscribers for your very good quality videos. Your video of how to get better at ghosts really helped me. Just wanted to say thanks for everything:)
7:57 scared the shit out of me
in my opinion. this is one of the best guns in the game.. its just a beast.. especially with the thermal/ muzzle brake combo.. straight beast mode
do you know the mr28 is a scar h
No I didn't, but there is a resemblance between the guns I suppose especially with its iron sights put on the mr
yes and the reload is the same so it may mean that infinity ward ported it from mw3 and changed it a little
Muzzle brake does nothin to snipers
+Blake Burke well good thing it's not a sniper then cuz it's a marksman rifle not a sniper duh
Another awesome weapon review from driftor
I personally like using the thermal hybrid scope because I can snipe with it and it has a built in red dot sight you can switch to on the fly and that takes away the need for a secondary weapon opening up an extra perk slot
Even though I don't play Ghosts much. I love these videos.
Thanks for the great review. Please review the rest of the marksman rifles. Love using them and interested to hear your thoughts and stats. .
This gun is BEAST in hardcore mode, one shot kill anywhere on a body except for long range, where it takes only 2 shots
Every gun is beast in hardcore, why would you choose a semi-auto that can 1 shot over an automatic rifle like the R5 that can 1 shot to almost the same range?
+SLK Atlas true
drift0r, youve often said that ghosts is an assault rifle dominant game, however i disagree with that. ive played with this gun alot probably one of my favourite gun and best gun in my opinion
301 CLUB!!!
For Drift0r being slightly colorblind, and Ghosts being very grey, he did. Drift0r did well in this GP.
Something I was wondering about:
At 3:00, you state, "However, if you have a mod controller or an awesome trigger finger and shooting faster than that, it'll actually over sample the gun and cause it to jam up or fire slower..."
Is this in the code to slow down the rate of fire, or is it simply that if you're pushing at a rate faster than 600 RPM, there are trigger pulls that simply don't fire a round because the gun's not ready to fire yet and will not fire again for another full cycle of the trigger pull which results in a slower than 600 RPM? (Kind of like how vertical synchronization on monitors with a low refresh rate can delay feedback from input).
The gun's Not ready :)
Driftor, I can tell you are smart as hell. And your voice is pretty damn awesome. Not to be weird. Does anyone else notice his voice?
I really enjoyed this video gameplay drift, thanks.
Drift0r thoughts on Call of Duty for 2014 and game modes and everything you know about it
+nexus1g it's per triggerpull.
Hey Drift0r could we get a list of all guns that are always one shot in hardcore?
great bid as always Driftor
I run this thing with a silencer and armor-piercing rounds. Works like a charm.
The best set up for this is muzzle brake and burst fire
I love your informational videos bro! They are freakkin AWESOME"!
Hey Drift0r, could you review the LSAT or SVU next pleeeease?
imo the mr28 is one of if not the best scoped guns in the game. and my attachments seem solid. a silencer and armor piercing rounds. the silencer takes from your range but when you factor in the bullet output or rate of fire and the ability to see across the map, the damage of each bullet is irrelevant. scope, spot, drill, and move. also quickdraw and ready up make it ridiculously easy to win those sudden up-close gun fights.
My MR-28 Class
Red Dot Sight
Three RND-Burst
Suppressor
Secondary
Vector CRB
Holographic Sight
Suppressor
(I made this class a while ago and don’t remember any perks because..... it’s Ghosts, but I know it had scavenger and secondary gunfighter, I guess it’s your choice of perks from there)
Use the armor piercing and muzzle brake with hardline slit of hand fully loaded and icu Semtex and concussion and rush and move a lot(flank)
I dont like COD anymore but your vids are amazing =) , its awesome how you speak how you do your vids & wish you the best dude=)
The burst fire attachment is very good at this gun.
Ode with noe respawns
a better setup is a hybrid thermal sight and a silencer, with any perks you prefer. its the best allrounder
Well edited! Like the cut's ! :)
Best to sum up this gun and the play style with it is "Fast & Accurate" IMO
Run with Optic of choice and AP rounds. (whats the point of a bigger (High DMG) bullet if it doesn't penetrate armor which is used often online)
.
Ready Up/Slight of Hand/On The Go/Marathon/Resilience.
Quickdraw/Stalker/dead silence could be sub'd in if desired/prefered.
P226 Tac Knife
no nades. (I never used them or die trying to use them)
Assualt (Radar/IMS or Dog/Sentry or manic)
Support (Ammo/helo scout/oracle)
Nice in depth vid, as they normaly are but if you get the chance could you do one on the SVU? Id greatly apreciate it.
drift0r u should do a in depth on the iron sights of the MR
i dont have ps4 nor ghosts for ps3 but i still look this videos. great job driftor. please reply my message man. bless
I love this gun for any situation. I can rush with it, i can canp with it, i can do anythig with it. It has a good scope and good enough hip fire
love this gun, easily my fav in ghosts.
when you do the svu review try this class the svu with iron sights muzzle break and burst fire and the p226 with akimbo extended mags perks are up to you
You want a slayer class? Use an mk14 (yea ik an mk14) with irons and muzzle. You get 2 shot kills for daysss and it doesn't seem to have as much recoil as when it has optics. It's a great class and I've gotten Lokis on Lokis with it
Hey Drift0r, have you ever considered doing in depth on battle field 4?
actually it only seems like the MR's have less recoil with iron sights because of the lack of zoom, when an optic is put on they zoom in more causing more recoil.
The IA-2 marksman rifle is a one burst kill every time with the select fire on..
When I saw "OTG," on your third recommended class, I thought it was on the go, and not off the grid
I just found this gun. Red dot/flash supp. with agility and stalker and its fine for running and gunning in FFA, forget patrolling.
As a former designated marksman, it isnt designed for rushing. he's using it as designed. Not bad.
Please do MK-14 next. I have it gold and all. But not sure how to really use it to the best of its ability. Thank you drift0r.
This is the weapon I got my first ever kill streak with. It was today.
I always use the default scopes on the marksman rifles I prefer the SVU with silencer and armor piercing
red dot sight feels really off with it. I love use the ironsight and the default scope.
This was my fav weapon in the ghosts :,) if you’re playing the new MW2 the FTAC RECON feels about the same not exactly but close enough to it 🙂
Where is the secret project In Depth? 6 days ago he said can't tell us the next episode.
What is the difference between camping and patrolling. I feel I patrol but I still get people yelling about how much I camp.
I love this gun I use muzzle break and ap
Is there a difference between camping and sitting at a window or on a roof while sniping people?
U can put muzzle brake and iron sight on it. So I will be like the FAL from bo2
i mean yah besides the fire rate
this gun is a monster, and the ia2 marksman also
Muzzle brake, red dot, stalker and IED to protect your back. The rest I play around with.
Interesting on how it is adjusted for modded controllers on the rate of fire.
Could you do an in depth of the IA-2 next thanks
Can't wait for the LMGs. Imo, they have the best damage, bullet penetration, & magazine size.I use the M27 as an Assault rifle :p. Just put on Sleight of Hand & Agility.
Ameli and stalker is so strong. Same with Chainsaw and Dead Eye.
I use this gun with iron sights, supressor
perks: Stalker, Scavenger, Hardline, Focus, Dead Silence and ICU
Do an in depth on the throwing knives
Nice transition at 7:18
DAMN that camo is mint in that gun I want that
I wish that it was a thing in cod that you could find out the fire rate of your triggerfinger!
Does this gun exist in real life 🔥
I've been playing cod since the 4th and the only time i've ever gotten a "nuke" or K.E.M. is with this rifle and my K.E.M. count on Ghost is 5 and is a very highly skilled player rifle like drift0r said take you time and pay attention to accuracy you will own the map
Good video!
