What keeps you alive is my favourite movie of all time.
Mainly because I believe jewels and jackie are the most realistic characters I've ever seen in a movie like this. Whether it was intentional or not, the characters are the perfect portrayal of these roles.
Jewels: a hopeless romantic who falls so deep in love with her partner. Extremely intelligent and logical, but the only thing clouding that is the love of her wife. Her love is what makes her do irrational things. She truly thinks she knows jackie inside and out, so when she finds out jackie tried to kill her, her reaction is perfect. First fear and uncertainty, you can see it in her face "I'm not crazy, she push me! Why? I'm scared" then jackie pulls off her mask and Jewels expression change "SHE TRIED TO KILL ME!! THERES NO DENYING IT! WHY? I LOVE HER SO MUCH! WHY? THIS ISNT HER! MY WIFE! 💔" She cries so hard! I've cried exactly like that when I got my heartbroken. I understand exactly what's going on inside her head.
She tries to bargin with jackie "we can forget all this. I'll never tell anyone. We can leave" not begging for her life. Jewels is still in love with jackie because she believes this isn't the real her. Then she tries to rationalise it "why didn't you talk about your father? Did something happen?" She wants to know if this Is this a trauma response. She would still want jackie to come to her senses and live happily ever after with her, even after they kill the neighbours.
The moment Jewels falls out of love with her is when she wakes up after her dream of killing. That dream signifies the shift in her mentality "there is no happy ever after, I need to kill her" and you can see the shift on her face, the way she talks to her afterwards.
When jackie is asleep on the ground at the cliff, she sees her sleeping face. The face she's been waking up to for the last year. She looks so beautiful and peaceful. Her love over powered her logical again and couldn't bring her self to kill her. She's in the car, crying her eyes out, her "love" mentality is in the forefront. Then the realisation "she's an Eagle, she will hunt me and kill me. I need to end this now"

I really thought about the Dean Koontz novel as soon as I saw the first scenes.

High Tension has a lot of weird plot moments but the whole movie is told from her perspective not from what actually happened, I wouldn’t really try to make most scenes make sense because it’s told from the perspective of someone who is insane. I think it’s an okay movie, with some unnecessary scenes; it could have been a great movie with some edits.
