  • Hundreds of swans have arrived at WWT Welney Wetland Centre to spend the winter months in the Fens. Numbers will increase to 6,000 whooper swans and 3,000 Bewick's swans as well as tens of thousands of ducks. The Welney Wetland Centre helps to protect and monitor these vulnerable wetland species through the harshest months of the year and enables people to get closer to some of them at the unforgettable winter wild swan feeds. Join us for a live commentary before the swans and ducks are fed daily at 3.30pm.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge of birdlife/swans. I wonder if you know why the swans (except a handful!) have left Cosmeston Lakes (Penarth) have left! Do swans fly to warmer places than the UK in winter?

Hi there, it's possible that your local mute swans will congregate in larger groups over the winter, especially in cold weather. Other push factors could include disturbance or lack of food.
