I wanna cry this was helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! What was your biggest takeaway?
@aphlearntodrawmanga honestly your first point about not expecting masterpieces. Simple but powerful advice.
I been studying yusuke murata art for 2 weeks now. I think my art had improved a bit since that. I always watched his drawing livestream on UA-cam. One time i see him, struggling to draw a hand on one of his character in his manga, one punch man. Even an expert mangaka struggles from time to time 😅
Oh for sure! It’s a constant challenge and there’s always room to improve and be better.

How long do you need to reference photos till you can draw your characters naturally on instinct?
I'm not against referencing, I just want to be able to sometime draw them without it.
I wish you get better
I wouldn't mind a guide to manga. Is there a rule book to manga?
All the sound effects, types/shapes/sizes of panels and how to know which ones to use and for which scenes, all speech bubbles and narration boxes, types of backgrounds, emotional FX (such as anger, stress, despair, fluster, dead-inside, surprised, etc), and facial expressions along with eyes (like Yandere got empty, dark eyes. A thirsty waifu got heart pupils. When the eyes shrink, it usually indicates mental instability or fear/panic/trauma or excitement and whatever. Etc)
I see people use fancy panels and even some where the characters jump out of them. I've seen randomly designed backgrounds. I've seen all kinds of speech bubbles and sometimes I get confused without the arrows. I've figured out that a black page background means a flash-back/memory scene. I wouldn't mind a list of all sound FX and what they mean and when to use them
For that I’d suggest you check out the paneling/effects guide by Monitor Comics on YT. Also maybe check out Shonen Jump’s official book on it too
Your channel along with many others has been such a huge help. I was stuck for trying to create a manga in the 7th grade. And now in the 9th. I finally finished my final version of the script of a story that I really enjoy. Now I’m trying to build my art style and art work to create the actual pages
TLDR: thanks for this channel and I can’t wait for more. You guys been a real help
This is really a great help . Thank you!
I just "published" my first one-shot online thanks to you guys 💪 ~4 Months for 44 pages...it was tempting to change the story halfway through, but I stayed strong 😂
Whats the name

@@kasiakarlsefni @chasecaudill8881 @devine_banana69 I thought I already replied before😅 It's "Kanna" on Manga Plus Creators by "Bentomanga". I hope you like it :)
Well my one shot is longer than 16 pages, it was 50 but I cut it down to 29 😅
The most common length for a manga one shot usually is around 45-50 pages. The best are 99% that length as well.
Our mentor Yazawa-sensei says that being able to tell a good compelling story in less pages is much harder and is definitely a sign of a good storyteller.
A lot of beginners who work with too many pages end up with draggy scenes that don’t really move the story along.
Great job being able to cut it down!
Hope it help you develop a keener eye on editing and improving your storytelling. 😃👍
@@aphlearntodrawmanga so I almost got my storyboard down to 20 pages, it’s at 23 now I went over it over and over it makes sense. It has a beginning middle and end. I want to enter it in the manga competition is 23 pages too many or should I just cut it down to 16?
I‘d love to read it. Is there any way iI could take a look?

Hey there, I've always wanted to make my very own manga. Thank u for making this video, it was helpful.😊🎉
When you mean "Complicated" you mean you have to Animate your whole manga
I subed for the call can’t wait 😀
This is fun really fun love it
I already said this once, and I’ll say it again: I’m glad I clicked on this video. These guys have such great content and so many good tips.
Why, thank you! 😊
The one about forgetting the card pin is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it! Our student Tracy will definitely be happy to hear that you enjoyed her short manga. :)
I'm always excited to see a new video from here 😆
Also, the artists from the short clips seem worth studying. It'd be awesome if you could blend in the name of the artist/manga shown in the respective clips!
Thank you for the video, I've discovered a unique talent within myself, I can weave captivating tales enriched by a diverse cast of characters, each contributing to an adventurous narrative that unfolds with significance and impact!
Im currently working on an fan-manga project.
The writing part Im confident I meet my expectations of myself, and showing others they feel the same way.
Im lost on everything of the drawing parts.
But the thing Im so confused and stuck in is I have no experience when it comes to drawing, I don't know nothing of the basics, such as atomony, nor even how to draw an OC in general.
If you have a good imagination, you can try and take inspiration from others. Maybe make your characters in a plain style. Make other characters until you get the hang of it. Then redraw those characters, until you can easily by muscle memory. At least that's how I've been doing.
Also as a good writer who is tired from drawing A LOT, I feel you. Also your style dosent need to be perfect take one piece for example.
@@MMA-Saber Thank You!! Your comment really helps me out knowing I'm not the only one, wishing luck for the both of us to keep on going with our projects.

Man, allright, I guess I'm gonna try. I'm not even close to being able to draw anything publishable: I'm really only good at poses, and I can draw an ok face from reference, but that'll do for a short.
Yeah someone I know first tried to make one piece like story and now he quit 😂
For those who think they can't start even after this video, let me just say that you won't start anything until you start it. Sure it might look terrible, sure it may not look like what you think but no one will make the starting line but you.
Heres a funy story about my first manga:
I started my first manga with literally nothing but a story and concept which sounds like a basic fantasy. The funny thing is that my main character's final design hadn't even been finalized until I drew chapter 1's cover art, his powers, his character, his backstory, literally nothing; but as I drew each chapter his backstory began forming in my mind and now the boringness of his design has worked in my favor.
My current project is 8 pages done, was planning to do 25 pages for this first project
i was expecting to be able to draw by the end of this
Me who just copy and paste the manga of jjk that i found on google or youtube lol...but i want to make my own
604likes? bro this vid is underated
I just finished a 10 page long oneshot for a contest. Wish me luck ❤🎉
Good luck!
Don't bite off more than you can chew.
Exactly!
The daily life one is actually something i can do
I was thinking of doing about my school life because it is probably more interesting than in my home
10:38 Thank you.
Seeing this video, I feel like I actually made a ongoing manga, because over the years, everytime I get an inspo or idea for one of my ocs, I draw it into one page explaining 1 day in one go, though it might never finish bcuz I lost some of my ideas on test papers . .
Im currently writing a shonen manga named "Lorn" I've created many parts of the story, and I want it to be a mix of fighting, slice of life, dark and comedy as well. Im currently creating a goofy small manga which is a short comedy type, just to see how it works out and how i can get my basics right. And, yes i have designed characters.
As a pers who wants to be a comic book artist i saw this as a positive motivation 👍🏽😁
Yay! Glad you found us. :D
I was more proud of myself for sketching the measurements than I was the actual drawing
Can you tell me whats the investment for the program?
need to draw my own comics with 6 stories each (it's due next week😢)
I always wondered how to publish manga to like stores and library can you pls make a tut about that!!!

I just found your channel today and thank you so much for this explanation💞. But I have a question. I know that ideally I should draw manga where I feel most comfortable and skilled, but as a beginner, I'm not entirely sure where that is yet. Should I focus on drawing digitally or stick to drawing on paper? I've seen that some artists start their drawings on paper first, but then I'm unsure of what they do next. Do they transfer their sketches onto a tablet by taking a picture and tracing them back digitally, or do they complete the entire process directly on the tablet? And I also have another question, what size should I draw with?
They tend to use a printer or camera to import them into the drawing program or if on iPad can just take photo and draw over it like directly it’s what I do but everyone does different things it’s more what do you want to do and how you want to do it
I having a problem when it comes to size and margins of panels
What kind of paper do you use and do you have social media
The only issue I have is where to upload it to while also not having a big following?
My man I accidentally made a yonkama before watching this but it's from down to top and follows the same rule 😂
Hey love this video so many good tips some I amity should of done or no idea of when I frist started but i guess everyone has thier own journey.
But am now working on volune 6 of my self publsihed manga sieres.
However the tip I would give there no such thing as perfection olny hard work and growth olny resaon I said is because art is subjective.
So finsh the artwork or manga and be 80% great at the time. This mindset will time for youto look back, lrean and gorw.
Also a lesson I think we all should lrean for Akira Toyama is enjoy what you do and have fun with your project.
Being able to get as far as Vol 6 is an amazing achievement! Great job! 👏
We couldn’t agree more with your tip on perfection, hard work and growth.
We’re sure your manga journey is only going to get even better from here on out! 🙌

1:56 AHAHAHAAHAHA what
Also good advice!
Hello, I have a question regarding use of screentones, or best to say, not using those as i can't get hold of them in my country.
Are there traditional (non-digital) ways to like do add value to the drawings (without hatching, as i need it smooth, like in clothing or background of the night sky/darkening the forest, etc...)
So I know of Sumi-e (a.k.a. ink wash), but not sure whether it is allowed in professional manga. Or is it possible to shade with markers at all?
So my question is, the ways of adding smooth value to drawings instead of screentones, and whether Sumi-e is acceptable in professional manga, Thanks!❤
Im am an 13 yo/old me and my class friend started making an manga he was the writer i was suppose to be an manga artist the manga was like one piece we decided to do our own manga solo because he gave me just 2 pages meanwhile saying you should manage it atleast do 20-30 pages on it however i declined it because it was way too hard and now i am doing an manga solo which is better writen and more fun to read my manga is something else and new to manga series ig but no-one should like my manga but i will share your youtube channel to him
I am working as a UX designer as a full time employee. I love reading manga and i love to copy anime characters. I get only 1 hour everyday to work on something which are not related to my full time job. Can you please tell me how much time should i spend on creating chapter one? Do you guys have any advice on the paneling itself? Like, do i need to have 4 years of anatomy mastery? currently, im still very confused and overwhelmed on what things to learn and what to learn at the same time
We would recommend to have at least some basic drawing skills when you draw your manga. You don’t have to be the best but having your foundations down really helps.

Welcome!
I really want to make my original manga. I'm an artist. But i already just miss some small steps. Like background ( i can learn it ). But my main issue. Is the manga page
Of course i saw alot of videos. But. My issue in the manga page. Is how to make it itself fit the whole page. Like the storyboard and when i make the character get out frok the page is self like. In jjk last chapter. Sukuna attack. If you get what I mean.
Can you help?
What size paper or canvas are you using to draw your manga?
I can try and draw realism maybe I can combined it with animated but idk how to create I can draw I wish it was something I can dedicate myself to
I world like to make one but i have just my pencil and eraser. And print paper can a persone made a manga without ink or black and white
So 1 page Yonkoma is basically like those super short comics you'd see in western newspapers that only have like 3 or 4 panels for the entire story.... so basically your Garfields and Calvin and Hobbs of manga...
😮
16 pages? I can't even really draw a single page, lol.
Ok I'm being a bit too hard on myself, but I really don't think I could come up with a 16 page story even if I tried.
I really want to draw one. I have a good idea too. But my problem is not with the drawing. It's about creating characters with soul.
