Thanks Mat. Sadly I can't afford a tree (Covid unemployment) like that so we will have to get a free tree from the pine forest and put our ancient fairly lights on it. I'm drooling with jealousy. Happy Xmas to you and Mrs. Techmoan.
It should be mentioned that you can buy the lights separately to put on a tree you already have. I bought the 400 light set and paid about $175. I think they're pretty awesome and worth the money. You can also map the lights with the app locally without it having to be uploaded to the cloud and it works really well.

Merry Christmas Mat. Sorry to hear that you'll all be stuck at home, but your viewers here in Australia are thinking of you and sending their best wishes.
Ive got the lights. They are fantasic. They also google home integrate and you can voice control the primary light colour. Also you can use your phone to sync to the music, so you can leave it on a table and it will pick up from the music playing. As usual, you explained things better than anyone else on the internet. I had to deal with short 5 minute videos of people who really didnt know hot to film or present a video.
This would have been the perfect thing for the 1998 version of me. Just get it out of the box, plug it in and done. None of those balls of glass or other rubbish, just the lights.
The tree's structure is identical to a 7.5 foot tree I got at Walmart about a decade ago. It was all pre-lit as well. It's in four pieces (A-D). But our tree had all the wiring twisted into the branches. When the lighting burned out after a few years, it was a pain to disconnect all the wiring. I finally just cut it all off and now just hang a standard string of lights on it. It looks like yours has a much simpler wiring system, which should make replacement a bit easier. I love how easy that style of tree is to set up, though. Nice to know they sell just the light strings.
that is a very nice christmas tree. Thanks for showing us your new tree and giving us the demonstration of all it can doo! I like to set up a model train at the bottom of mine every year. Unfortunately misplaced it this year lol.

And I still haven't got a SD card this size my pinky nail with the 500 gigs yet so...
Damn straight on that.
@@PerspectiveEngineer There are 1000GB ones too. ;)
Aye, that’s impressive! A Vu meter Christmas Tree I could have some fun with that!
I am simultaneously impressed by the technology and completely uninterested in the product. :-)
I have to look into theses trees for my grandma thanks for this wonderful video my friend have a wonderful Christmas
I'm wondering how well the tree would display pixel art. Your Kirbys and Marios.
This version doesn’t do it very well
The pro version allows you to upload any file you want to the server and run the system like a video screen
@@tobintechlv Hah, only way to watch Christmas movies. 😁
I heard these sold out real quick when they first came out.
Pretty cool how it learns where the lights are.
My biggest issue with DIY IoT is the ones that are cloud-based, I like devices that can be controlled without internet connectivity or only by a mobile app.
they did i sell them we also have ones that some with a remote that change from color to clear or both at the same time they also have a dimmer on the remote.
I think id be better off to have my Wifi connected tree and wreath not aware of each others existence so they can't conspire against me.
I actually love this. Gonna order one next Christmas.
"Wait I just have to update my christmas tree" We really are living in a dystopian future arent we
I love the christmas antiques roadshow music halfway through, lol
3:38 Only two halves? Did you want three halves? ;)
Tree halves
@@Mynameister No one expects...
Ah, the saga of the halves and the halves-not. For what he spent on it, it’s no wonder he was in disbelief that it only bought him the halves-not version. 😉
Props for the Oddity Archives reference !
Now we have arrived at a true RGB peak
16:52: Very pleased to see that you self-corrected your 'less' faux-pas. Well done.
Aaaw I really wanted to see that Union Jack animation on the tree :) Otherwise great video, and quite a nice invention from Twinkly! Although not for me, as continous twinkling lights in my vision will probably send me into a murderous rage.. But otherwise nice idea!
It’s unrecognisable with so few bulbs - that’s why I didn’t include it in the video. Another hundred or so more bulbs spaced equally and it might have started to look half like something.
@@Techmoan aw what a shame. Still would be interested to see it but I trust your judgment
That tree actually looks really cool!
Charlie Brown warned us about tress like this 🎄
Merry Christmas Mat. Sorry to hear that you'll all be stuck at home, but your viewers here in Australia are thinking of you and sending their best wishes.
Flippin' Eck! It's Crimbo!
Christmas tree do IoT. Didn't see that one coming xD
Customizable x-mas lights, pretty cool! Has some interesting effects, pretty high tech tree!
Only thing missing is a rocket taking off effect :D
Thanks for the advice with the different LEDs and that they wont sync.
As a dev, I can't give you any real reason why the app needs "cloud" services instead of just doing it all in your phone
This is a pretty neat product made better by your demonstration. Your posts are always a bright part of my day. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
This would have been the perfect thing for the 1998 version of me. Just get it out of the box, plug it in and done. None of those balls of glass or other rubbish, just the lights.
This hi-tech christmas lights are incredible.
Dependency on the cloud instantly killed any interest in this product. Looks cool though.
"Updating firmware for a Christmas tree," yup, Internet of Shit strikes again
I'm a big fan of Twinkly. I've had the Gen 1 and the Gen 2. They are rather expensive but they certainly do bring your tree to life.
Hey Stephen, thanks for being such a great fan 🤩✨🎄
I thought this was Technology Connections
that is a very nice christmas tree. Thanks for showing us your new tree and giving us the demonstration of all it can doo!
I like to set up a model train at the bottom of mine every year. Unfortunately misplaced it this year lol.
gamer tree
@SupaPhly you're right! All Twinkly would have to do is change tha packaging and marketing a bit to include "gaming" raise the price by 20% and they'd sell out instantly! LOL ...'gamer' things...
doesn't seem to have a way to sync with whatever RGB one might be running on their PC though...
Cracking tree, think I might tey and get one for next year. Thank you for Mat for keeping us all sane with your excellent videos throughout the weirdness that has been 2020. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family 🎄
This could be great in a shop window to attract attention/customers, but not so great at home as it would get pretty annoying after 30 minutes.
This is Matt Parker’s tree! I did not expect to see a commercial version so soon.
