As the mother of a son who served 21 years in the USMC, this touches me deeply. Toby Keith and Trace Adkins have been in Afghanistan and Iraq so often that most deployed military have met at least one of them....sometimes more than once. I saw him perform this live last summer in Indiana, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the place. He's still a great performer.
Simper Fi Ma’am! Thank you for raising a wonderful man as well as your sacrifice as a Mom(knowing how much stress my mom went through while I was still serving active duty )!!
The reason I like this song so much is that it really shows the hardest part of being a soldier. It’s not the danger. Its when you’re in a tent on Christmas Eve thinking about your family that you haven’t seen in a year. I cried a lot overseas and every single time it was when I was in bed at night thinking of my loved ones.
My brother served in the Army for 10 years I have much respect for our military. I know about some of what he went through but don't understand why we go and support countries that don't care about US and talk shit about us
I was in my 1st tour of Iraq when this song was released. It instantly became our theme song and conveyed the level of commitment we as Soldiers displayed daily. After 23 years and 4 combat deployments it still has the same effect on me now as it did then. Profound.
My brother had same combat deployments in his 10 years of service. I have much respect for the military. My brother received the bronze star and my grandfather received the silver star in WW2.
Toby’s voice can tear you apart with patriotic pride and devotion!!!!! He speaks for sooo many Americans that don’t seem to be heard!! He is a musical hero standing up for those who put their lives on the line for our freedom!!!!
I've been out of the US Army now for 29 yrs. I still consider myself a soldier. "You can take the soldier out of the Army, you'll never take the Army out of the soldier."
The part of this video that always gets me in tears is at the end when the dad looks at his wife and kids then walks onto the plane saying his goodbyes. I cry every time. I will always love toby keith and his music. RIP to a legend
PRAYERS GO OUT TO TOBY KEITH AND HIS FAMILY. MAY GOD GIVE THEM THE STRENGTH, AS TOBY GOES THROUGH STOMACH CANCER TREATMENT. TRUE PATRIOT HE IS. CAPS BAD EYESIGHT 💕🇺🇸🙏💕
RIP Toby... this song is absolutely amazing.. My Grandfather served in Europe during WWII.. my Hubby's Dad served in the South Pacific during WWII.. My uncle's served in Nam.. My dad served.. just not during war time. Nothing but respect for all of our soldiers and veterans.. Thank you for you service.
Stay safe and to show my favorite "saying", im sure you heard it before. ;) "Give me strength, not to be better than my enemies, but to defeat my greatest enemy, the doubts within myself"
Recky, great video. I am retired military. People do not understand what young soldiers sacrifice, the time they spend away from families, how hard it is for those families, the fears they live with all the time. My family was lucky I always came home. Many do not! God bless!
Love this song, thanks for checking it out. I love the line “I can’t call in sick on Monday when the weekend’s been too strong” On my ship in the Navy our Senior Chief said we weren’t even allowed to call in dead 😂
I served 19 years,3 wars, last one 911 til injured.this a favorite, glad I got to take a bunch of marines I served along side,to see toby keith concert, this is a definition of us all veterans,
Thank you for reacting to Toby Keith's "American Soldier". As an American, I have a great deal of respect for the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Yes, there are things that need to be addressed and corrected from time to time. But, considering that our Armed Services are made up of people who volunteer to serve, there is a lot to be proud of, and grateful for. Contrary to the image some people have of Americans always looking for a fight, most Americans don't want to start a war. But, we do realize that we have to be prepared and ready to fight when it is necessary. I enjoy your reaction videos and appreciate you thoughts and insights. I look forward to watching more of them.
His songs really hit; I have had three of my kids serve. My oldest went to the Air Force, and my two sons went to the Army. Thankfully they all came home. You need to do some of his fun stuff, "As good as I once was", "Red Solo Cup", and my favorite" Trailerhood'. Enjoy
I just found out that you can apply to join the US military even if you’re not a citizen. However limit was or is 35 years old. And I’m 43.. that made me salty! Hahaha
My husband and I met in the Air Force. He stayed in 20 years. He was drafted and sent to Vietnam in 1968. His Dad was a Army Air Corps fighter pilot in WWII. My Dad also fought in WWII. My husband's family and mine have fought in every single war including my nephews in Afghanistan. My husband passed away in 2012. These patriotic songs bring tears to my eyes. I know the cost and sacrifice. I have always loved my country and am saddened by those who don't these days. I suggest 8th of November by Big and Rich. It will gut you. It's a true story out of the Vietnam War.
I can totally relate to this music video. I was once that lady at the fence seeing her hubby off during deployment. I remember the countless dinners at the hangar because hubby had to pull 24 hr flight duty and wasn't able to come home. My hubby missed out on piano recitals, art exhibits and lots of games while my son was growing up. He watched my son graduate high school on a satellite because he was deployed. The military is not for the faint of heart. Lots of sacrifice had to be made by the soldiers and their families, with that said, we have zero regret. I met so many wonderful people along the way from different walks of life. My hubby finally retired a couple of years ago. We are now catching up on things.
I thought I could listen to this, without tearing up, now that all the uniforms have been hung up. Nope, I still ugly cry.. 14 years, 5 soldiers, 9 deployments and 1 KIA. This song will always hit me, hard, in the gut. Thank you for your reaction.
Love it even though it's about American soldiers after serving l have too say you have to remember all the allies who have stood and served with us because they always have to put their lives on the line and leave their families behind. The thing l like about Toby Keith is his music is so down to earth.
Toby Keith is great! He also has a lighter side to his singing..try listening/ reacting to TRAILERHOOD or NOT AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS... I relate to a lot of his patriotic songs & videos because for most of my adult life, I was a Naval wife ( Gulf war, Dessert Storm era)...prior to that, my father served in the Army ( Korea war era), 1 Uncle that served in WW2 (Normandy) and 4 other Uncles served in Vietnam. My niece is currently in the Airforce and serves at Dover, working with the Thunderbirds. Anyway, I can relate to sending your loved one off at the pier, standing there with your children as the tug boats push the ships away from the pier & out to sea, and all their questions and tears as I tried to hold mine back. It's not an easy life, for anyone or any military family, but we all understand why it is necessary for these sacrifices and we're all so proud of our service members. The cost of freedom is high and we don't take it lightly or for granted.
Dude, I just discovered you today, and I just love you. This song just gets to me. I'm not from a military family, but my family has served the US when called, from my 5x great grandfather fighting with Francis Marion during the Revolution, my 2x great grandfathers (all of them!) during the Civil War, my grandfather repairing naval ships in WWII, my daddy in Korea, my brother-in-law in Viet Nam. These songs just make proud of their service, and your reaction to these songs makes me proud to know you through YT.
I served for over 20 years in the Military i can surely relate i remember the call my unit was being deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm, i also served a year away from my family when i was assigned to South Korea. We are always more concerned about our families over ourselves
The little boy saluting his father gets me every time!! This video tears at your heartstrings. God Bless them all - past, present and future. Thanks, so much, for taking our suggestion to watch this. 🙂 Others you may want to hear are Coffey Anderson's 'Red White and Blue' and Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless The USA'. Both excellent songs!
@Reckyj And if you choose to react to God Bless The U.S.A. you might like Lee Greenwood's collaboration with Home Free and the Singing Sergeants of the U.S.A.F. It's wonderful!
Stop worrying about your English. It’s not the language that matters, it’s your communication skills that are important (both verbal and nonverbal) and believe me your communication skills are extremely good. Thanks for your reactions and keep up the good work.
I like to see other peoples outside the USA react to this song because OBVIOUSLY the idea of patriotism, and soldiers of one's country having laid down their lives in prior/current conflicts is universal. I love lyrics. I don't get behind this song as a "YEAH LET"S GO USA" anthem I just really like the theme and lyrics from a soldier's point of view, in service to whatever cause they are committed to, even if that means the ultimate sacrifice. Really great lyrics by Keith I think, indeed timeless lyrics. "I'm just trying to be a father, Who has a daughter and a son Be a lover to their mother Everything for everyone Up and at em bright and early I'm all business in my suit Yeah I'm dressed up for success from head down to my boots I don't do it for the money There's bills that I can't pay I don't do it for the glory I just do it anyway Providing for our future's my responsibility Yeah, I'm real good under pressure Being all that I can be And I can't call in sick on Mondays When the weekends been too strong I just work straight through the holidays And sometimes all night long You can bet that I stand ready When the wolf growls at the door Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady Hey I'm true down to the core And I will always do my duty No matter what the price I've counted up the cost I know the sacrifice Oh, and I don't want to die for you But if dying's asked of me I'll bear that cross with honor 'Cause freedom don't come free. " You cold apply those lyrics to near any soldier anywhere. Replace the "cross" with whatever faith, it still holds true. Really great songwriting.
I love Toby Keith. One of my favorite songs of his you might like is Whiskey Girl. He has so many awesome ones though you can’t really go wrong with any you pick out. I was wondering if you are going to be doing anymore Pentatonix reactions? Also I know Mitch is your favorite as he is mine and I don’t know if you saw that he released a solo album called Roses. He uses the name Messer and all the songs are originals written by Mitch( Messer) for it and my absolute favorite song is called “Machine”from that album. It has a 90’s feel to it. I enjoy your thoughtful comments and reactions. Only recently found you but I’m really enjoying your channel.
I will never forget the guys I served with when we had to deploy. Saddly we did it so often during the early 2000's that many of the husbands and dads said it was getting easy.
Hi Recky! This song always gets me. I feel like I need to recognize my family members. My great grandpas were service men. Grandpas too, one a medic and one brought bits of Normandy back with him to dangerous to remove. My Uncles, on both my dad's and mom's side. One a medic earning the purple heart and coming home a paraplegic. MY DADDY, MY HERO, served in Nam. Things to this day he will not repeat. He was hit with Agent Orange, nightmares, certain loud noises make him jump, and waking him is a story in itself. OUR SOLDIERS ARE TRUE HEROES, MEN ABOVE MEN. They have no glory but once a year they MAY get a thank you. Thanks for letting me recognize them!
I am a Scandinavian that see the sacrifices men and women do every day on battlefields all over the world. I’m the one who stands humble upon the face of hero’s.
I remember my first combat deployment, my mother was crying thinking the worst. She came to my fathers house, I hugged her and I said I will be fine . Then after four deployments of this type, I think she cried much. My father knew me and he rests in Arlington now.
Toby is amazing & very patriotic. He also has a great sense of humor & you won't find funnier videos. Fpr some laughs, check out 'As good as I once was' & 'Trailerhood'', 'How do you like me now' & another couple prettier, serious songs, that he still manages to make the video funny anyway. Great talent.
Thank you all for your service. Toby, I can only imagine Jesus saying “well done, good and faithful servant.” I’m so thankful you were a believer. Eternity is going to be so great!
I stumbled upon you. This is the fourth video I’ve watched. I really like your style, so I subbed. Don’t ever apologize for your English, it’s just fine and better than most. Looking forward to more. ✌🏻
I ran across your channel a few days ago. Reaching out to tell you how much I appreciate your respect for the American soldier. I am the son of a retired Army veteran, I served in the Air Force during "an Asian vacation" my eldest son sailed around the world on an aircraft carrier (including Fjords near Sweden) and also ten years in the reserve, my youngest son is a retired combat veteran who served in too many places, his younger sister served as a medic in the reserve. We are not unique. None of us want wars anywhere, but will serve in any way we can to preserve our country and our Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. Recently through DNA testing I came in contact with a first cousin in Sweden. My cousin is very worried about the threat from your east. I said your military has excellent technology, your Air Force has performed excellently alongside US in military exercises. It doesn't matter to me if you join NATO or not, a free country should choose its own path. Either way I don't doubt that we would stand alongside you if there was a call to preserve a free people. I am touched by your willingness to show respect to our people in military service. As you may know there is a strain of Sweden in the USA and my family respects your nation and culture as well. Thank you.
Family fought all way back since civil war til me and bro that didn't pass the physical back in h.s. early 90's after but hope my nephew continues the military family
Here's another song to listen to is not by Toby Keith but is by John Michael Montgomery called Letters From Home and it highlights just how it helps keep morale up in all troops while deployed. To get mail from home from their loved ones is the best time in a deployed troops life besides the day they get told they're going home.
I served back in "79" and Ronnie sent us into Beirut, no one really remembers what happened there and that's ok I DO! Just dealing with men not coming home had me so sad.
And let’s not forget about those who served our country, are now in Ukraine fighting for their liberty and freedom. As well as those from other countries volunteering to do the same. Those men and women are truly special people! God bless and be with all of them. 🇺🇸
As an American, you don't have to apologize if you can't get the word exactly right or wrong because we have people from all over the world and we can understand the sentiment
@@Reckyj I was actually thinking that, let's just hope it is a word that can translate because some words don't translate well or have no words that mean the same but I am sure you can find a word close enough 🙂. Anyway God bless and Happy Resurrection/Easter day.
As an American, I'm very grateful for your comments to this song and Angry American, and your words touch my heart. May I suggest some patriotic songs that I'd enjoy hearing you comments on.....Meet Me At Arlington and Name On A Wall (both by Jimmy Fortune), Travelin Soldier (Home Free), God Bless the USA (Lee Greenwood, Home Free, & The Air Force Singing Sergeants), Ballad of The Green Berets (Sgt Barry Sadler), and going back to the 60's (?), Little Barefoot Boy (Bobby Vinton). Thank you, again. I love hearing your comments.
@@Reckyj there are a couple of versions. The history, the changing of the guards, why you never mess with a tomb guard, what it takes to be a tomb guard, and the worst mistake made by a tomb guard. There probably are others as well. Thank you for responding back. Happy Easter.
Hey Ricky if you want easy to understand US Military videos check out Task & Purpose, if u see his playlists and the NGSW (New Generation Squad Weapon) playlist then it goes over the possible replacements for the M4 in the Army and the "Saw" which is a LMG (Light Machine Gun). The guns and ammo are pretty innovative.
I would recommend "Angel Flight" by Radney Foster. This version is the Radio Tower Remix. ua-cam.com/video/70Ikj1hZDnw/v-deo.html "Angel Flights are the U.S. Air Force planes (C-130's) used to fly home our Fallen Soldiers. Angel Flight is also their call sign. ... Now, of course, there are other flights that have an even higher priority, but in reference to other standard military flights, for takeoff or landing, Angel Flights are always #1 in the pattern.
One video I would recommend is "America the Beautiful" performed by Ray Charles. Ray was able to capture the beauty and meaning behind the lyrics. The lyrics are from a poem by Katharine Bates. The wiki information on it gives a great description of the inspiration for her poem. It really encapsulates some of the emotions we have about the United States.

Providing for our future's my responsibility
Yeah, I'm real good under pressure
Being all that I can be
And I can't call in sick on Mondays
When the weekends been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready
When the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady
Hey I'm true down to the core
And I will always do my duty
No matter what the price
I've counted up the cost
I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you
But if dying's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor
'Cause freedom don't come free. "
You cold apply those lyrics to near any soldier anywhere.
Pentatonix will always be reacted to. Just taking a break from a cappella. But it’s just around the corner
I will never forget the guys I served with when we had to deploy. Saddly we did it so often during the early 2000's that many of the husbands and dads said it was getting easy.
One thing I'll always remember from serving in the US military: "Do the right thing. Even if nobody will know."
I agree! To many filming as the help people... i hate watching it.
@@Reckyj you are so right!
You should listen to Toby Keith's "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses".
It’s noted! 😀
I remember my first combat deployment, my mother was crying thinking the worst. She came to my fathers house, I hugged her and I said I will be fine . Then after four deployments of this type, I think she cried much. My father knew me and he rests in Arlington now.
So you did 4 tours?
Toby is amazing & very patriotic. He also has a great sense of humor & you won't find funnier videos. Fpr some laughs, check out 'As good as I once was' & 'Trailerhood'', 'How do you like me now' & another couple prettier, serious songs, that he still manages to make the video funny anyway. Great talent.
Recky, another good one by Toby Keith is As Good As I Once Was. The video is funny!
Review idea: "Mansions of the Lord" - performed by the U.S. Military Academy Cadet Glee Club (from inside the chapel at West Point.) Amazing!
Thank you for the sub! Glad you enjoy what I do.
Thank you.
Thank you Chuck! And God Bless you and your family and the service you did in the name of freedom!
Nice reaction!!
We will be there.
🇺🇸🤟🏽🇸🇪
SEMPER FIDELIS!!!
Family fought all way back since civil war til me and bro that didn't pass the physical back in h.s. early 90's after but hope my nephew continues the military family
Rip toby ❤
Here's another song to listen to is not by Toby Keith but is by John Michael Montgomery called Letters From Home and it highlights just how it helps keep morale up in all troops while deployed. To get mail from home from their loved ones is the best time in a deployed troops life besides the day they get told they're going home.
Added!
Im going to say the Swedish word im after, then translate it and put i subtitle on it. =)
@@Reckyj I was actually thinking that, let's just hope it is a word that can translate because some words don't translate well or have no words that mean the same but I am sure you can find a word close enough 🙂. Anyway God bless and Happy Resurrection/Easter day.
A great song you should react to (if you haven't already) is "Private Malone."
Amazing song.
Love the reaction bro ❤
Glad you did buddy!
no one does it better than Toby
Thx for posting!
Sgt D Worstell
US Army (Ret) 🇺🇸
Great reaction mate!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
RIP toby
Hi Linda! I’m the one who’s is grateful for the sacrifices your country has done for our freedom! And your suggestion is noted! 😃
Thank you for sharing this ❤🤍💙 if you haven't already, you might like The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Ive seen The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, however, it was a long time ago. I might check it out again
This version is the Radio Tower Remix. ua-cam.com/video/70Ikj1hZDnw/v-deo.html
"Angel Flights are the U.S.
Great reaction!
Try Trace Adkins "Arlington"
Noted Rod! Thank you for the suggestion.
Hin side is every bit as excellent as his serious side....if you haven't already done so, check out As Good As I Once Was and Beer For My Horses.
US patriotism at its best, Lee Greenwood singing God Bless the USA. (no links as requested). Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I got a few suggestions on this one. Bound to do it
Thank you
Another good military song is 8th of November by Big and Rich
It’s already added!
Check out "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. The version he does with Home Free and the US AirForce Band is the best in my opinion. 💙
Added!
On my to do list! =)
Five finger death punch ( wrong side of heaven )
Toby actually played over 200 shows all over Iraq & where the soilders were for free.
Such a patriotic
