Mama Dog’s Difficult Delivery of 4 (really big) Puppies

Thank you for joining us! Robin is one of our best Cavaliers with a very special place in our hearts, and this was her hardest delivery she's ever had. Each of her four puppies had difficult births, and we had to race to get them out in time - and for one, we weren't so lucky. This delivery serves as a reminder why breeding dogs should not be taken lightly (among many other things), and also that every delivery should always be attended. Mother nature doesn't always know what to do.
We raise Cavalier puppies to be Emotional Support Animals by prioritizing their emotional-social development during their time with us and helping bond them to their families/handler as they grow up here in our home.
Robin's previous deliveries were smooth, so we were surprised to see her have difficulty with each birth. She's had a litter with this father before and that delivery went well. Each puppy was very, very big for a newborn Cavalier, weighing between 300-350 grams each, while the average newborn Cavalier weighs in at around 175grams.
Luckily the fourth puppy was her last; I don’t think she would have had the energy to push out another one. In the end we were able to save her oxytocin dose for her standard pop shot the next day, which helps ensure she’s emptied her body of all tissues associated with the pregnancy.
This was one of the most difficult deliveries we have ever had. With the average newborn Cavalier puppy weighing between 150-180 grams, a big Cavalier puppy is one that weighs over 200 grams, and a really big newborn is over 220 grams. Robin delivered two puppies that were 350 grams each, with the other two weighing 300 and 314 grams. The biggest puppy she’s ever delivered prior to this litter was 224 grams, so you can see why this was such a difficult delivery.
Our livestream is now following the three healthy puppies as they grow. You can find their stream on our channel each day. We will continue sharing updates about our other expecting moms, and we plan to stream the deliveries of those litters too.
